  1. You need to have a isolated output. If i remember PPA use TLE to as a voltage splitter thus creating a virtual ground. The earth ground is different from the virtual ground.

    That is only half-correct.

If it's just a virtual-ground, you can choose to connect it to mains earth.

The problem is that the ground channel output of a PPA is not the same as the input ground from the RCA's. It's an actual active channel.

If you have devices in the chain that tie the signal ground to mains earth, you're going to cause the ground channel to oscillate were it's output connected to mains earth as well.

  2. Hi all,

I am casing my PPA in a metal enclosure. The enclosure is connected to the earth of the mains power for safety reason. My input is via isolated RCA sockets. But I am concerned re: my headphone output. Do I need to have an isolated output socket as well? Is it ok to connect the output signal ground to earth?

    Thanks for any comments/help.

Yes, you should isolate the headphone ground from mains earth.

  3.

No, she doesn't spy on me regarding forums. But she did notice that lately I've been surfing net alot and RELIEVED to know that I'm in safe net of SGH and HeadFi. Little did she know that these two places are slowly poisoning my mind to get better cans to enjoy simple joys of two channel music. She just commented, "Seems like you are auditioning bigger and bigger headphones as time goes by!"

    :cans:

    :b2t

Bigger cans are always better! In more than one way... :P

  4. btw, the box fits very well and it costs $25 at martin electronics. stainless steel box..

the soha board can go in vertically with the trafo behind

btw i havent actually seen the soha schematic, there's something on the pcb that i was concerned about, the db102G, apparently the negative/positives shown on the PCB is diagonal, but those db102g i just bought's the -ve and +ve are on the same side anyone to clarify?

It's an aluminium box actually.. Pretty nice and decent case for the price. Unless, of course, you're a cheapo arse...

  5. I was hoping for a more predictable answer :P

Parents would prefer a more established brand.

Amoi is the choice of most who are into Home Theatre and HDTV locally. Even in China, it's THE choice for those in the upper-class.

  6. I've been shopping at HMV over the past few days and listening to those in-store players with featured CDs. I couldn't help wondering - why on earth do those freaking headphones (can't remember the model, but it's Sony and has a 900PRO somewhere) sound as good as my DT990?

Is it the source? Or is it my ears that prefer something closer to a studio-based headphone? Even Koss headphones in Borders sound RATHER decent given their price. Has anyone had a similar experience, or am I the only headphone user with an identity crisis?

Edit: Aha! I've found the exact Sony headphone model. It's the Sony MDR-V900 Pro. You can view it here.

Many setups fail when listening at lower volumes.

Your listening volumes at HMV are likely to be much higher than when you're home. Hence, the setup there has a much better chance of performing if your home setup iisn't up to mark.

Next, you do not yet know where your sonic preference lies. As you audition and try various headphones and amps, you'll start to find what kind of sound you like. Then you can get a higher-end headphone setup according to your preference.

  7. I suppose you have not listen to the Sun 2A3 driving the Primus 360, i can tell you the results is Amazing! I still figuring out how the world this small watt amp can whack Slipknot like that.

Actually, I did speak to Frankie about this. He mentioned that the Sun 2A3 isn't very suitable for this kind of music on lower sensitivity speakers. It can deliver on the music but not the bass slams and definitely not if you don't have a listening area the size of your typical HDB room.

  8. Honestly speaking, would you approach someone you don't know, but with a pair of high-end phones and strike up a conversation? (sociology question: interacting with strangers) smile.gif

Striking a conversation with a stranger, boy or girl with high end earphones is not too bad. Afterall, both have common interest and using good earphones. But taking a pic..........wah this kind of glory i not interested! lol.gif

    So i go again:

Me: So can i take a pic of you wearing those E5?

She: WHAT?! For what?! You want to plaster my pic all over the net?

    Me: But I'm from sgheadphones!!!!

    She: So? Me from flowerpod!!!

Me: Har..? Simi flowerpod? I gots ipod!!

Want to see a girl with a high end can, easy la. Just ask GF or sister to model for you. headphone.gif

Ain't flowerpod more or less gone already?
