  1. the canare is VERY VERY ex. the neutrik is $3.80, the canare was $8.

however i chose the canare for 3 reasons

    1. no matter what i did i couldnt get my solder to 'stick' to my neutrik. no amounit of cleaning, heating, re-cleaning, re-heating would do the trick.

    2. the canare is small, looks much better too IMO

    3. the strain relief on the canare is much better looking, tougher, and the internal solid metal cord crimp is much more comforting and re-assuring than the neutrik's plastic crimp. it took quite a bit of force to tighten the canare's crimp.

ablaze, i'm doing the complete mod account in pdf format. easier to disseminate that way IMO. also perfect for printing.

Actually, the Neutrik strain relief is a better one of the two. The more the cable is tugged, the tighter the grip will be on the Neutrik's relief.

Soldering on the Neutrik requires some soldering paste/ fluid & a higher power soldering iron (>30W). Fufil these and soldering will be a piece of cake.

  2. can anyone tell me where to find Gilmore v2 se schematic..... biggrin.gif

A Gilmore V2 SE is the same as in the Gilmore schematics but with a few adjustments and more extras.

Eg. Usage of TL07x opamps instead of OP27/37 opamps for the servo.

    Multiple inputs.

Slightly different resistor values for some portions.

  3. Well... It's up to you people to convert others into headphone freaks.. LOL. I did sorta convert one of my best friends. He bought a pair of DT431's at the time and I gave him an A47 variant (Class A) headamp.

Most people don't believe in paying that much for a pair of headphones, this ain't hi-fi, ya' know. They're skeptical and nedd to hear the phones on a proper setup before they realise why you'd spend so much on the cans.

  4. Surely a 1/8" input & output socket is adequate for julery's needs. A panasonic volume pot is quite good actually so an Alps blue is not really necessary.

Well... Other components like the caps & Opamp will still cost a fair bit. Plus labour charges....

A good volume pot is essential; Otherwise, you'll get great imbalance at lower volumes.

  5. Elitist? Maybe but no one wanting your opinion? Nahh... people who have the same music taste & sound preference as you will want to know your opinion. Remember the reviewers may not have the same pereference as everyone else. Although having a team of 6 varied people will cover the bases better.

Not elitist.. Just a wierd taste for type of sound I like. Think about how many people actually put down the HD600's & DT880's. =)

  6. I'm sure the Gilmore's PS is very good. But the cost might (using good caps) might outweight the cost of a simple SLA.

Yeah.. But the Gilmore is gonna need good, clean power that don't drop in voltage. Guess SLA's can't provide that in the long term. For other amps like META's, (CH)A47's & Grado's, I guess SLA's are the way to go.
