  1. Well... I think it's not that great sounding (a few flaws here and there) afterall. But that's compared to PBJ silver streaks.. Hehehe...... Then again, I might well be trying a different sort of DiY'ed I/C's. Will let you guys know after I try. Probably will scrap my Klotz. So when the time comes, anyone who wants a pair of the GY107 (about 6' each) cables can get them from me.

  2. LoL... You don't have to get the 3.5mm jack, it's just that I've not got any around the house.... I just need to make a trip down to SLT to get one if need be. Or trouble my friend who does studio & hall audio to get some samples.... hehehe..

  3. Correction to my earlier clause "EarMax Cans", it should read as "EarMax Headamp". Would Firefox be interested to have a go ? yes.gifwink.gif

I'm absolutely unfamiliar with tubes.. LoL... and have no time to learn right now.... Unless you can get Mindef to unshackle me... Haha.... I do have an unfinished META42 which I'd probably sell off once it's done since I'd need to build myself something more portable to bring in-camp to listen to.

  4. Yup, the cable is the same as with the 270/570/590 line.

Yes, I do... Granted I have the time for it! Haha.... Rameish's first HP890 upgrade cable was partly done by me. Heh.... Now, I only have just about enough time to solder 1 or 2 components on my as yet unfinished META42 amp each book-out. Left with drilling and cutting of the enclosure now. Which I need 2 days book-out and I can't get that! Stupid company timetable... Burning away all our weekends with Range, Live grenade throwing, Field camps, Sit. tests etc... Grrrh......

I do have enough materials to make a 2m cable for your headphones but it'd only terminate in a ¼" Neutrik jack though. Not a 3.5mm stereo jack; ie. You can't use it with computers or PCDP's without an adaptor.

  5. Rameish,

Thanks for your message which comes in just timely, otherwise my schematic is already rolling out....... rolleyes.gif Will not do any cosmetic change on RS-2 but will try something less risky on.....hum..got it....the HD-200. ablaze, could you kindly advise where i can get the good cables ? wink.gif

You got the HD200? I believe it uses the same cord as my HD270 (or EH2270) & HD570 headphones. Also the same as that for the HD590 & Philips HP890 headphones.

  6. Diy cable, yeah!!

Haha... Have a diy'ed 3.5mm to 2.5mm stereo cable & a 6.3mm to 2.5mm stereo cable made specially for my HD570's headphones. They also fit the Philips HP890 & Senn HD590 headphones. A solid upgrade over the stock cables... Hehe...

Hey Rameish! The Starquad is definitely much better than the GY107 for the headphones. At least in terms of accuracy & tightness of the bass. smile.gif But it's also a slight bit brighter.

Also bought myself 2 pairs of the WBT clone RCA plugs. I think their copper base judging from the weight.

  7. Yup. MP3 only plays frequency that the human ear can hear as a way to compress music.

    What about this config:

Use a CD player and play a CD.

Connect the CD player directly to the Audigy card.

Using the Audigy as an amplifier.

Will the result be same as cd player and amp?

    Thanks

Not very true... Most MP3's have a cut-off frequency at about 16KHz to 18KHz. Only custom settings or good encoders would set the cut-off at 19.2KHz.

A dedicated headphone amp is still better than the Audigy's onboard amp, which is similar to a cmoy.. But with more crappy opamps.

IMO, a simple Cmoy with 2 nice Cerafines/ Silmics & an AD8620 or BB OPA2134P opamps would fare much better. Just hook up a nice source (at least a PCDP) unlike an Audigy(2) and your good to go.

  8. Hi,

So far has anyone auditioned the sound of Sony R10 ? It was quoed as US$4k from online sales, how much is it here ? wink.gif

    http://store3.yimg.com/I/gifts-and-gift-ba...ts_1735_7827088

Not available locally.. I believe that only a few pieces are churned out each year by Sony in the recent years and only to selected dealers around the world.... Otherwise, it's more or less out of production. Guess you got to know the right people (dealers) to get a new pair.

  9. will the sound be affected ?

vinlloyd -- the 1 u got is around how much when new ?

    Yes & no..

Yes: because the volume will probably drop since the 2nd device might be seen as an input as well & the 2 way adaptor is another connection in between.

No: Because the Creek isn't THAT sensitive/ good to let you note a significant difference in a high quality adaptor (Vampire etc).

  10. The RA-1 Clone... Yes... I know that one... But it's hard to get the opamp. And ordering from Mouser (the only known source besides flying to Japan) requires a minimum order since we're overseas. It's about US$100 I think... Enough to buy 222 of the opamps...

But the amp is extremely easy to build though.
