ouch!! That's real real bad... should never leave anything unattended.. Particularly valuables.

My goodness.. How did you end up here from Sushi's forum? LOL...... Anyways, the Philips HP890 with a cable upgrade would be great value for $$$ under your budget..

Nice cans... just need a cable upgrade... argh... bmt starting soon... gonna RT all the way! all my saturdays burnt... *sobz* The cheapest I could ever get those cans was $68 or so.. hehe. but i think the philips shop that sold them at that price just closed.... sadly.. heh....

The MX-500's may or may not be to your taste. It depends on the individual.. I don't quite like the sound of it.. Just too.... I'd say mechanical.. Not natural enough.
Finally had a break from drills and what-not.. And back to the comp. for a while..

Opamp based headamps.. Including but not limited to A47, Multi-loop, buffered and variants of..
Headphone cords, interconnects.
Probably could build a Gilmore but the parts are a pain in the ass to get..
Other stuff including mechanical work (a little).. Repairs on home electrical equipment..

The BB OPA637P 'B' is more analytical.. Perfect match for those who like ROck & pop, trance, techno... You get the idea. It's not that forgiving (no colouration of sound). However, it's not a good match for Grado phones.
AD's are more warm sounding. Matched with the Grado's, they make a good combi. for vocal based music. However, you can distinctly hear that they don't pack a tight & fast bass hit except maybe with the HP-1.

Nice and really cheap ones are the Philips HP890/ 910's. Otherwise, you could try some Beyer's.

$30.. Will barely pay for the parts for a proper Cmoy. Throw in labour and all, you can't even meet that price, much less get a META. I suggest that you build a Cmoy on your own.

/me smacks ablaze...
Can't blame me if I've only a few hours (countable on one hand) of sleep everyday right?
And you mis-spelled Elna
Newbie - a decent amp...how much?

Actually, if you tweak an Apheared amp appropriately, it'll sound better than a META42 on some low impedance cans.. Hehe.. Mainly the power supply portion and biasing the A47 into Class A with Cascoded Jfets.
