  1. To cut it short, I got two source in my system. One is my PC which is using M Audio Audiophile 2496 and another one is Rega Planet 2k cd player. Both connected to my Lexicon pre amp(processor) and Bryston power amp. I am so sad because all of them using left and right RCA connection and none of them accept my headphone jack or 3.5mm stereo jack.

Back to the question, how to connect my Grado and Koss headphone in my setup? Anyone can help?

  2. sorry, forget to add in the purpose of the amp and the headphone that I am using. I am using Grado SR 60 and Koss Porta Pro, the purpose of the amp is a connection between my CDP(RCA out) and my headphone. I cannot find any method to connect a Left and Right RCA out with my haedphone which accept jack input only, so have to buy a headphone amp to connect them. That's looking for budget headphone amp only.

  3. After running 3 weeks, the boomy and harsh sound of porta pro has gone. I am very happy with it now, it is a very good headphone, recommend to you all. If you are looking a portable headphone for plenty of good bass, go for porta pro, you wont go wrong with it.....

  4. normally I would think the source which should be cdp play the most important role for speed. Naim and Rega CD player is well known for fast and good rythm cd player. Actually others component do will affect the speed. Like the Grado SR 60 headphone that I am using, the pace is very slow compare to my just bought Koss Porta Pro.

  5. Well done Fooklai, wise choice...

So what's next on your headphone list?

thanks.... I wont have next headphone list in near future. I am very satisfy with my Grado SR 60 for serious listening and Koss Porta Pro for portable usage. Talking back to the koss, it surprise me after let it running one whole day without listening to it. The boommy bass is tighter a lot, the high also smoother a lot, the great difference is the imaging. The sound become bigger and the imaging is full of body now, i never think that running in headphone also can have such improvement...... Btw, blackadder do you mod your Porta Pro, some said cutting a small hole will get better sound, dont know is true or not....

  6. sure.. let them run in for at least 3 full day - 1 week.

I usually plug my new headphone to my computer and play mp3 , set to repeat.

hehee.. and then take them off and listen to them from time to time to notice the improvement

just curious, why did you choose it over the ksc50/55? tongue.gif

simply because most of the user review prefer porta pro over KSC 50 in the web. I wont buy KSC 55 in the first place because of cannot foldatable.... I know cannot choose in this way without comparing myself but too bad none of the shop can let me audition them....

  7. congrats on the new cans Fooklai. btw, just curious, why'd you choose the porta pros over the pretty Eggos?

Thanks smile.gif I cannot make comparison because I got no chance to audition both of them. I know their price are pretty close(actually both below $100 which is my budget). Both of them received fairly good review over the web, hence their sound shouldnt be too bad afterall. Therefore, the only comparison I can make is the size from the my eye. The Prota Pro looks smaller before I open it, but after opened it I found it is still quite big even after folde(not so pocketable like sony). Anyway, I am still listening to it now, it is getting better...... I made a comparison between it with Grado SR60, the result lead me to believe it is in different level. However, I am still quite satisfy with it for the money I paid and the feature it can provide when Grado cannot.

Hopefully running more will let it getting better.....

  8. Hi all, thanks for all the input. I bought the Koss Porta Pro in the end. Like the style and looks of the Porta pro over KSC 50/55. The sound initially is a bit harsh and bommy, now after running one hour is better, not so harsh and boomy. I think the only downside for me is it is not so pocketable. And maybe a bit bommy in certain poor recording MP3, I felt that this wont change after run in...... But I will keep running them and see how..... Overall, it is a very nice headphone, and it is getting better every moment....

  9. Hey fooklai, dun waste time, go for the Porta Pro, after a few hours of break-ins, it's will be good enough for the roads.

I read from somewhere else that Porta Pro and KSC 35/50/55 use the same driver.... I would like to know are all of them same quality/characteristic of sound? If yes, what is the advantage of choosing Porta Pro instead of KSC 35/50/55? sorry for many questions, I am going to town this weekend to buy the headphone.....

  10. I have px200 and like it, for me it's better than ksc35 in term of every thing except sound stage. Isolation is ok for MRT and outside use, maybe some people can't get used to something on their ears, for me it's ok. I'll never call the mid of the px200 be recessed, it's the mid that make this phone shine; therer is a mid bass hump, I think it's necessary for a small phone; What makes me surprised is the detail, compare to full size phone like K501, I don't fell I missed any detail, with mx500 and ksc35 I know there is detail missing.

Thanks for your comment...... Do you find PX200 comfortable to wear???

  11. Currently shortlisted a few to compare before made decision.... I suppose mdr-v6, beyer dt250-80 and Beyerdynamic dt 231 is very good headphone but they are just too big for my purpose...

    1) Sennheiser PX200 ($90) and 100

    2) Sony Eggos D66 ($93)

    3) Koss KSC-50

    4) Koss KSC-55

    5) Koss KSC-35

For best size, the Koss KSC-50/35 and Sennheiser PX200 fit the best. However, Sony Eggos D66 and Koss KSC-55 seems to have better review in term of sound..... Anyone got idea about the price of the Koss KSC-55 and 50? And where can I buy Koss KSC-55/50 and Sony Eggos D66?

  12. hm... very hard, it's a cross between style, sound, portability

I would really recommend a koss ksc-55. behind neckstyle from koss, nice song, same as ksc-35.

I would love to recommend you the mdr-v6, but I am not sure if they are stylo..

I think you would definately look better with ksc-55 on than any other phones...

unless you are willing to sacrifice the style , I can recommend you quite a few, like the eggos d66, mdr v6,beyer dt250-80(this one rocks for mp3!!).

Personally I have only heard the dt250-80. They cost ard 280. I was using it out of my iriver slimx headphone jack.. very nice, warm sound, punchy bass, smooth treble. Mp3 encoded at 128kbps doesn't show any harshness, all tamed.

    Vocal rocks with this baby!!!!

What do you guys think about Koss KSC-50? All opinions are welcome smile.gif

  13. can consider dt 231 [$89] too, or MX500 [$33]

need it to be foldable, quite few choices lah...

PX200 is the only one out of the 3 you mentioned that is closed, but i think its quite ex

me also own a SR60, looking for portable phones too

    SR60 cannot make it outdoors

actually equivalent closed headphones in the same class of SR60 is the MDR-V6 aka MDR-7506

but using these on a tiny iRiver receiver....plus its coiled cord...

btw, how's the sound of the iRiver IFP 140TC?

if i'm not mistaken, this version is 64MB rite?

can the radio recording be uploaded back to the PC?

    and in what format?

sorry for asking so many questions

Beyerdynamic dt 231 and sony MDR-V6 looks very big in the picture to me, can they be foldered?

The sound of iRiver IFP 140TC not bad, it actually depend on the quality of the mp3 you store inside not the player. Yes, it is 64MB version. The radio recording can upload to PC, I havent tried so dont know what format. Anymore recommendation? All welcome smile.gif
