There isn't any problem with the thump/ "piak" sound from the amp. Difference opamps behave differently when the voltage on the rails drop (ie. when the power from the transformer is cut).

Burr Brown opamps tend to give the thump whereas Analog Devices opamps generally don't.

 

Most headphones wouldn't be affected as they tend to have tolerance for relatively high power dissipation.

Last time there was something known as the green marker tweak. You buy a permanent GREEN ink marker and you mark the side of the CDs with the ink....

To me, I didn't notice a difference. So, with this antistatic solution, even if I try, I am not sure if I can tell the difference. Maybe at that time, equipment not revealing enough.

AFAIK, only the NJB3 has a true line-out that is not affected by equalizer (EAX), volume or anything else. The IRiver 550's line out volume is affected by the built-in volume control, thus its not considered a "true" line-out in the sense.

You are probably mostly right. But I think you confused headout with lineout in one of the paras. Read carefully. Anyway, on PCDPs with lineout, there is definitely a headout. So, there are two.

The Sony 805 I am using now also has a true lineout/optical out (really didn't realise for YEARS), so not just limited to NJB3. This has now become a new criteria for buying PCDPs already.

If U have been used to the sound from headphone out, the quality of its line out will introduce U to a whole new plateau, which will certainly defer your intention to buy a new pcdp. Bass boost/tone controls are bypassed en route to line out.

Mackie, you are spot on. That day, I just got the headamp hooked up through lineout and listening to it is pure joy. Much like a free upgrade! The bass extension is infinitely better! On the headout, I had to limit the volume a little as the bass extension was crackling. On the lineout, ZERO problems. Very clean bass.

Guys, please correct me if I am wrong. Besides impedence, the efficiency of the cans also matters in terms of where a player can drive the cans or not right?

Starushz, If you get the senn, burn in for some time before they really open up. I was slightly dissapointed at the PX200 initially but now that they have opened up quite a bit, it's actually very decent for it's size and price. PX100 is open design though.

I just managed to go in only. Was out the whole of yesterday and just 5 mins ago, on the laptop cannot. But on the PC can.

Blues, that sounds like a good solution. I usually dun mind buying used hifi stuff because they are usually well taken care of. Audiophiles usually take good care of their stuff.

on the side, last time when I was on starhub mobile, my flat has no reception in the kitchen and bedroom (weird, yes). I called starhub and only after 6 months did the problem get rectified. So expect a wait if it's an 'infrastructure' problem, as they quoted me the last time.

They have it. I tried it about 2-3 weeks ago. I didn't like the fit. The pressure on the ears were too great for me. soundwise didn't listen long enough to comment. The fit threw me off straightaway.

That's true, could be quite fun. But DACs are dangerous stuff to meddle with. Engineers took years to work out how to cut the jitter, so I think I'll leave that out of my scope.

Hi guys, I saw this when surfing: http://www.mercenary.com/bendac2chand.html. It's basically a DAC with Headamp built it. This one is pricey. But if there are any DACs out there with a decent headamp built in, I would get it!

There's a Decoder from creative. Can't find the model on the website. It's not audiophile grade but it takes in like 3 or 4 digital inputs, processes them into 6.1 channels, and also had 2 headout. all for $280.

I do. Lesson learnt but luckily for me, the price was a cheap Aiwa clip-on. I used to have a pair of which connected to headphone socket of PC speakers. Having thought little of it despite the constant "pop" during power on/off, I left the clip-on connected pertually until it died on a fateful day. It lasted only one month from day of purchase.

Ok, so I think the conclusion is simple. For cans, just plug them out. I believe it's not that much trouble. The plug is always in front of your equipment. Ain't it?

For speakers, just mute it. Or speaker switch off (for amps with A/B or speakers switch). Then power off amp, then power off source.

Do you think the POP or the HUM is more frightening?

POP : The sound made by on-off switch (especially so in PCs).

HUM : When you hold the mini (1/4 or 1/8) plug with your bare fingers (touching the metal contacts) and the resultant hum you hear through the speakers and you can actually see the speakers cones in constant motion for as long as you hold you. And the hum is quite worrying.

Ok, this thread is making me damn gian to upgrade my CDP liao. CD6000OSE looks like a good choice now. Pricing is decent too. I am currently using a PDS802 with a pretty decent transport, which means I might be able to just add on a DAC for upgrade. But the problem is that the digital out for the unit is using only optical, may end up sounding too clinical.

yap, I maxed out the volume and I am still within comfortable range for DT431. I am a sad case.

I leave the stuff on standby, means, I dun switch off the mains, so the CDP still feels warm, not totally cold when I turn it on. The amp, once powered off, stays cold. No standby circuitry I think.

Matbon, best piece of advise yet. Muting it is probably the best solution. But not switching off equipment is a huge waste of electricity. an average 60 rms amp will eat up 7-8 bucks a month if left on 24x7.

I have heard conflicting sources regarding output from the muvo2. In the manual, it says 30mW but I remember reading somewhere it's 15mW, so I am not really 100% sure, though through the way it runs the DT431s, I think it's closer to 30mW.
