  1. Ok, I got the Farnell order number, it is :

    919615 (Dual 10k log)

    919627 (Dual 20k log)

    919639 (Dual 50k log)

    919640 (Dual 100k log)

    For your convenience rolleyes.gif ....

The price list is SGD 7.08, but they charged me less than SGD 3.- per pot. You know sometime Farnell give discount for certain items without telling us biggrin.gif

Well I think it is odd to have centre detent for volume, so I prefer the one without. You are right about the bush, they a bit too long, so sometime we need to cut it (I use file to cut it).

  2. Good idea huangyong! party.gif

I'm not really tube fan, because of that, I would like to hear 'experienced' headphone listener to give some comment of how it sounds, probably compare to something else like PIMETA, PPA, or others, before I decide to try it happy.gif

Anyway it is good to see how many of us interested with tube amp, by starting another group buy for the MJ tube yes.gif

    Cheers!

    Bram

  3. It works ! party.gif

Now my Neutrik Locking Socket feels good, and the spring is not as hard as before. No more excessive force to use this gold plated socket.

    What I did:

    1. Change the original spring with the spring I took from the SGD 2.5 'fake Neutrik' socket.

    2. Give a little bit of petroleum jelly on the locking mechanism slot.

    3. File the locking plastic latch a little bit, so it is now easier to unplug the jack.

  4. Thanks jtfoo!

I think if you going to drive Op-Amps only, you don't need the +/- 48 volts, and you can change the transformer with the dual 18V - 500mA.

Gillmore... yeah... very tempting... probably later after the PPA, or Gillmore first before PPA, ..... confuse wacko.gif Ok, I will finish my PIMETA first, that's my short term goal yes.gif

So when are you going to finish your pre amp ?

  5. Well you have a point, but I think I'm not going to bias it to much into class A, around 1 mA is good enough for me. Some people said, the difference is not really audible, so it is just a complimentary for me.

And considering the voltage drop across the biasing circuit, it already take more than 1 volt. Means, the peak-to-peak output will be reduced by it. So for low voltage supply operation, to much biasing will limit the output voltage. Unless you are using transformer, you can have much higher voltage supply, so can have more biasing current.

  6. I'm going to try the Neutrik locking socket, just got it from HungBros. I also have bought locking socket from SLT, which share similar construction with the Neutrik, but with manufacturing error, the right channel connector is too short for proper connection with the headphone jack (can be adjusted with plier though). But this 'fake neutrik' only cost SGD 2.50, and the spring is not as hard as the real Neutrik.

What I will do is, I will modified the Neutrik socket, change the spring which is too hard, with the spring from the 'fake neutrik', and give a little bit of petroleum jelly for the locking mechanism for better pushing feel cool.gif (no pron please tongue.gif )

I will post the result later.

  7. What I tested are the 3rd gen and the newest gen (20 Gb, thin body, just bought), that belongs to my friends. I borrowed them for listening test, and IMHO, no significant improvement for the sound quality. It's about the same. My Panasonic PCDP SL-CT810, IMHO still sounds better with stronger bass. But don't take it too seriously, the different is just a tad, for my PCDP being sounded more dynamic with better bass. With lossless compression, iPod is still much better than any MP3 players out there.

    Tested with RS-1 and ATH-EW9 grado.gif

  8. I still need the buffer, because the supply will be from battery, or adapter which only has + and - (no CT or centre tap). The regulator will maintain the ground voltage, but not function as ground, because the current that can flow through the ground pin of the regulators is very small. So, for current going to or from the ground, we will still need buffer to do it.

    Thanks for your comment! headphone.gif

  9. The problem with MD is flexibility. They are close system to protect piracy. So personnaly, I won't buy MD. Another thing, the sound quality of 320 kbps MP3 is said to be better than ATRAC.

So, go for iPod if it is within your budget, the reason is, they support lossles compresion which sounds very close to PCDP. Otherwise MP3 player HD base. But the iPod by default has no line out socket for the normal 3.5mm jack. You can get line out only when you buy the docking station mad.gif

About the sound of iPod, to my opinion, my PCDP (which is half the price of iPod) sounds better than iPod. I compare it with lossles compresion. It lacks of dynamic, and bass is not as strong as my PCDP (eq off). But it does sound better compare with 320 kbps MP3.

  10. Hi guys, could you please advice me for the 6.35mm (1/4") panel socket?

Initially I wanted to buy the Neutrik locking socket, but Mr. Fox said it needs some force to plug in and out the jack, so he use combi jack. I will check this combi jack later.

    Any other good socket?

    Thanks!

    Bram
