  1. My brother gave me an old, but new, Sennheiser HD414 Anniversary Edition. The foams already too old, so need new foams, and also no cable supplied. The original HD414 said to have 2000 ohms impedance. But the Anniversary Edition is only 52 ohms. So I use Canare L-2B2AT with Neutrik mini jack for the cable. Currently the cables and headphones is being 'burnt-in'. Will give sound impression in the next few days. In the pictures, I temporarily put KOSS KSC75 foam, but will replace it with the Sennheiser yellow foam.
  2. Recently looking to buy headphones from Amazon, but I just realized they no longer can deliver it to my vPost address When trying to find out about it, I found this on vPost website: Prohibited Items for Export from USA & Europe * All speakers including headphones and earphones Oh no...
  3. I don't know if Jaben has them, I think they do. I bought my M50 from Hung Brothers in Sim Lim Square 3rd floor. ATH-M50 has a pretty good noise isolation for a full size cans. You may try Stereo as well, Plaza Sing, I think they might have them. I haven't tried UM1, so cannot comment. I tried UM2 in Stereo, pretty good sound, I actually prefer UM2 sonic character over Westone 3.
  4. For the budget, full size headphones will give a much better sound quality. For example, my favorite ATH-M50 which cost less than SGD 190. I also do some recording, so clarity and detail is very important. I can hardly do sound editing with IEM, they are not good enough, even those in SGD 500 price range. Recently I bought from Jakarta, Superlux IEM, HD381F, a semi-open IEM, so sound isolation is not very good (between earphone and IEM), but sound quality is very2 good. Neutral, good detail and clarity, and good quality bass. But since noise isolation is not very good, only suitable in relatively quiet environment. Superlux HD381F only cost around SGD 45.- but in quiet environment, sound quality can match, or even better to my liking, than Shure SE530, UE Triplefi 10, and Westone 3. http://www.superlux.com.tw/index.do http://www.superlux.com.tw/productInfo.do?...d&level=2&lv0=5 I have all the 3 flavors, but I find the white HD381F is the most balance in tonal balance.
  5. No, the clipping sound is from the recording, not from the IEM. I tried with 3 different IEMs, I can hear the same clipping sound. It is microphone overloaded sound (I do recording as well), might not detected on speaker monitor if the speaker monitor detail is not very revealing. But IEM is very revealing to detail, that's why we can hear it. It is also not recoverable using compressor.
  6. Please let us know your impression of the AD700 sound quality when you got it. Tx!
  7. Volume pot is most likely the problem. Usually the tolerance of left and right pot is about 20%, which is audible when we got bad pot that really has 20% resistance value difference between left and right.
  8. Wow for USD 80.95 sounds like a really good deal Have you checked the price locally? I heard from my brother, AD700 sounds good. Really tempted Have you tried it? Can anyone who has tried it give some opinions?
  9. I agree with Heady. Too much isolation could be dangerous. Anyway, when jogging you are not seriously listen to the music right? I would say any cheap IEM will do. When spoil by sweat, just get another cheap one. Maybe this is one of it's kind, currently I'm using Superlux HD381F, which is semi-open IEM (it comes with 3 sound characters, Bass heavy, flat, and transparent). The isolation is in between earbuds and IEM, so not completely isolated, but also not too much noise from the surrounding. Superlux HD381 Not sure if it is available in Singapore, I bought it in Jakarta. 381F is the white color.
  10. Yes, I hear the same distortion at time around 2:35-2:37, and another one at around 2:48-2:51. I think it's clipping sound. I play using iPod 6G 80GB & TF10, volume around 55%. I tried using Superlux HD381F IEM, also the same clipping sound. So I guess could be clipping during recording, when their voice is just too loud for the microphone, and undetected in editing.
  11. I'm not sure, but if both ears have the same sensitivity, I don't think so. Canal resonant is affecting more on the tonal balance. For sensitivity, you can try to listen to mono signal, which must be located exactly in the center of our head (between the 2 ears). If you think it is not exactly center, it could be the player problem, not giving balance sound, of the ears sensitivity are different.
  12. In my opinion, they are very different. W3 is bright, if I can make an analogy, W3 is the Grado of IEM. W3 might be prone to sibilance when the vocal recording is also bright. Mid and bass ok, quite flat for my taste which is good. But W3 mid is way different than TF10. Compared to TF10, W3 mids might sound a bit harsh, because TF10 mids is silky smooth. W3 bass is better than TF10. TF10 is silky smooth and slightly warm sounding. For me the mids and highs are very nice, but maybe too smooth for some music that might need a little 'omph'. But if you like vocals, TF10 is very good for vocal. Bass is ok, flat, enough quantity, but the lower bass extension a bit weak. Sometime fails to give the rumbling, ears vibrating bass. Comfort wise, W3 is better, also better isolation. As our ears canal have different resonant frequency, they might sound a bit different on different ears. My2cents I'm in the midst of comparing the following IEMs. I use them everyday, like 2-3 model a day, to really know the real character of those IEMs.
  13. dBE-PR18 sounds pretty musical, very good bass, but recessed high. I always have to use treble boost with my iPod. Pretty good for vocal. Or ATH-CKM50 or CKM55, nice bass and high, but recessed mid. Pretty good for instrumental, but not so good for vocal. Recently I switch to Superlux HD381F, but not sure if it is available in Singapore. Sound Quality really top notch for the price (less than sgd 50), comparable or better than any IEM I tried so far (I've used those sgd 500-700 mega bucks IEM). But noise isolation is not so good, below average IEM. http://www.superlux.com.tw/index.do It comes in 3 sound characteristic. HD381F sounds best for my taste. I bought it (all three flavors) in Jakarta. My2cents
  14. I recommend ATH-M50, full size circumaural, pretty good isolation, reasonable price (less than sgd 200), superb sound, easy to drive. My2cents.
  15. MDR-EX500SL has a 'smiley' sounds characteristic. Smiley means like you see equalizer set with bass and treble boosted, creating a smiley curve. The bass is very big, and boomy, the treble is also too much for me, and very prone to sibilance. I suggest you try it first, to hear if it is suit your taste. My2cents.
  16. Hi Heady! How are you? I've a bit of time to play with headphones again The reason I replied here is because I'm a bit disappointed with CK100 sounds, so for those who interested to get it, better check other models first before spending big buck on CK100. And I'm really impressed with this Superlux HD381F, less than SGD 50, but sounds way beyond it's price. I wonder if this model available in Singapore. You can come to my place to try it if you are curious
  17. Good question, I don't know whether it is available in Sgp or not, I haven't checked. My brother introduced me to Superlux, he is from Indonesia, so he bought the HD381 set from Jakarta. HD381F closest sound signature with the well known IEM in the previous picture in page 2, is with UE Triplefi 10, but HD381F bass is better. From all the IEMs in the picture, CK100 mids is the most unnatural for my taste. But please note, HD381 series is semi open IEM (quite rare I think), so sound isolation is not as good as normal IEM. it is not suitable for noisy environment.
  18. You need to mention your musical preference. There is no ultimate earphones that can satisfy everybody. It all boils down to personal preference. Second, your budget. Recommendation would be based on budget also.
  19. Sorry not to spoil this thread, just to give some suggestion, for those who haven't bought CK100, you may try Superlux HD381: http://www.superlux.com.tw/new/html/Frame1.html It comes in 3 flavors: Bass heavy (HD381), Flat (HD381F), and Clear (HD381B). As I'm writing this reply, I'm currently A-B ing ATH-CK100 and HD381F (the white color). I bought all the 3 flavors of this HD381 series from Superlux, for less than SGD 100.-. It is much cheaper when we buy 3 flavors all together, or it is about less than SGD 50.- each, if we just buy one model. I thought a few times before I write this reply, should I write it or not, because I don't want to spoil this thread. Finally I decided to reply, to share my impressions. After listening to HD381F, CK100 sounds imbalance, weak bass and colored mids. Again it is my personal musical preference, please don't get offended HD381F outshines CK100 in almost every department. Very sweet & natural midrange, beautiful high, and excellent bass. The only thing CK100 wins is, the isolation and comfort. CK100 build and design is really good and comfortable. But sound wise, regardless the price, I still prefer HD318F just for the sound quality alone. It is really, really, really GOOD My main complaint with CK100 is the midrange, it doesn't sound natural to my ears, too much colored. Vocal sounds weird. The treble quality is pretty nice, but I expect more for it's price range. The bass is actually weaker than the HD381F Please note, HD381 series is a semi open IEM, it has ventilation hole on it's chamber, so isolation is below average IEM. But maybe that what makes it sounds so good, with excellent imaging. Also volume setting is slightly above CK100 for the same listening volume. As for my musical preference, I like natural mid (this is a must), transparent high, and slightly boosted bass (just slightly, I hate boomy bass). And HD381F is just for me So, please note, my comments here is purely base on my personal musical preference. Others might have different taste, and might like CK100. All three flavors of the HD381 series sounds very good, depend on your preference. For quiet environment, I prefer the Flat White HD381F. For noisy environment The Bassy Black HD381 is better. You can test the bass response using this file: http://www.mediafire.com/?jmmzyy2mynd I created it using Audacity (freeware). It is beats sound, from 20 Hz to 60 Hz (4 beats each freq, 10 Hz increment). Some headphones I tested failed to produce clean beat sound, especially @ 20 Hz. Some break-up, some distorted with 'ringing' sound that seems to come from the chamber's resonance. My full size cans ATH-M50 pass the test with flying colors, full body beat sound without any ringing distortion. The Superlux HD381 also pass the test with very minimum ringing. Some of the IEMs under test (Superlux HD381 series on the right side): Hope this information is useful for the readers, as an alternative, before shopping on big buck IEM.

Could you please post some pictures, so we can see the connectors ? Thanks!
  21. Well, try with your gear. When I tried M50 in Hung Brothers 2 years back, it was paired with a bad headphone amp, the treble was harsh and metallic. But when I tried at home, also with iPod, the treble sounds very nice, no harsh 'ears piercing' treble. Anyway, Pro700 has different driver than M50, larger driver, so sound could be different. My2cents
  22. I've been using ATH-M50 for about 2 years, love it for the sound quality and the price. From the picture in your thread, The ATH-PRO700 gold looks very similar with the ATH-M50, just like ATH-M50 painted with gold For M50, beside personal use, I also have a few of them in my church, and we have use them for more than a year, dropped here and there, many people use it, and it still kickin' So durability wise, it is very durable. Check the M50 for the shape, it is really looks like the PRO700 Gold: http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/headphon...be4d/index.html http://www.audio-technica.com/cgi-bin/dump...g/ath_m50_1.jpg
  23. My friend just bought Audio Technica ATH-M50 in IT Show today. Really good bargain, ATH-M50 at S$ 182, with ATH-CKM50 as a bonus I'm a fan of M50, really good headphone for the price. I've used M50 for almost 2 years now, mostly for audio editing and also to listen music. For those who interested, you can go to Audio Technica at IT Show, Suntec level 6.
