Below are pictures of the actual item, the only minor cosmetic flaw is a small dent shown on the last picture. Otherwise, you can see that it is as good as new :

VR-Zone is ok but not audio specific. Would be great if sgheadphones cover wider fields of audio, easier to get sponsor and invite more people from different interest.

For signal generator, you can use your PC or notebook, with freeware like Audacity

As for oscilloscope, last time I saw a lot of second hand ones in Kaichin (SLT 3rd floor, the shop that looks like a junkyard).

Not sure if there is any freeware that can make use of good sound card as oscilloscope. Maybe you can share to us if you find any freeware that can do the job well It' won't be realtime though (sound card latency sometime very bad ), but I guess maybe good enough for your purpose. As with the voltmeter, a good true rms voltmeter that can measure 1kHz, with fast sampling time might do the job as well

Pro Audio normally associated with studio, sound reinforcement, live setup, etc. So we can learn more than headphones I just feel that headphone alone is a bit too limited for discussion, more topics more knowledge and more fun Like learning about professional mixers, line array speakers, microphones, etc. so many things to learn It will invite more people, more sponsors And the knowledge might be usefull for some people career.

About interest, maybe poll is not the right way for interest check, since at the moment it will be limited to our members only. But when the topics is known to be available in sgheadphones, it will invite more people of that interest.

But maybe this forum might not be the right place, since headphone is the main topics. And Rameish is right, a small portion of it like studio stuff can be discuss in already availble subforums.

You guys right, for short distance the difference may not be audible. Don't worry to much about it. For me, if I use starquad, will use white pair for L & R, blue for ground, and connect the shield only on one end of the ground, which is the input end (eg. amplifier)

As for Huangyong comment about waveform coherency, well I guess the starquad manufacturer would have thought about it I use starquad (canare) in my church, about 35 meters for microphones, and other instruments, it sounds great Seems better then the previous normal twisted pair (2 conductors) mic cable.

Bluetooth audio is quite ok for TV or news on radio, but for music, the bass is weak.

I have mobile phone that support stereo bluetooth, and I tried iTech clip which is currently the most popular stereo bluetooth headset. iTech is only the bluetooth receiver and transmitter with mic, but without earpiece, so you have to use your own earbuds. It has the 3.5 mm stereo socket on it.

For the same 128 kbps MP3, normal MP3 players still sound better than the bluetooth stereo. But the bluetooth stereo is already pretty good indeed (version 1.2 with A2DP or above), compare to bluetooth mono (1.1).

So the bluetooth stereo headset is convenience and fun, but not for high end music. You can use it for mobile phone, PC for skype or other voip, or TV and iPod if you buy the bluetooth audio transmitter.

Thanks Bram for the advice. Yah, it is not fully sealed as I can hear wind whistling when the fan blows at me. I have pushed them so far in, they hurt and when I remove them, the rubber cup become inverted. ohmy.gif

 

I have also tried the tri-flange tips with my Koss sparkplugs and pushed those really deep in before I get a seal. When I tried to remove them from my ears, the tips detached from the drivers and I have to use tweezers to pull the tips out.

I am using the largest sleeve or whatever you called it and it feels like it's tight but the bass isn't exactly loud nor noticeable. Hmm, looks like I have to find other way of fitting this to my extra-large ear canals. :-(

I think it is not really fit your ears As and indication, ask somebody to talk to you, normal volume, while you wear it. If the isolation works, you won't hear him speaking to you. If you still can hear him, that means it doesn't fit, and no isolation. No isolation means no bass for this type of in ear buds

With the isolation, you will also hear 'microphonic' sounds from the cable when you walk around, or shake the cable. A bit annoying, but not bad with CK7.

Try to plug it in, deep into your ears, maybe it will help

Well I guess ER6 and ER6i have different sounds characteristic. I didn't try ER6i, only ER6 And to my ears ER6 bass is very weak, not sure of the 6i.

Maybe what caused me feel narrow soundstage with the UM2 is the bad vocal and instrument separation which related with clarity. I hear better clarity and instrument separation with CK7, therefore the stereo image and soundstage is better to my ears.

A bit boomy bass from the over volume bass of UM2 maybe will give the 'in hall' feeling, but for me that is not soundstage. My ATH-EW9 and Grado RS1 have much wider soundstage than CK7, but to my ears UM2 is even narrower than CK7 due to the lack of clarity.

Went to Jaben yesterday, tried Westone UM2 and Ety ER6... Guess what... I'm glad I bought CK7

UM2 is not for me, I like balance sounding headphone, and to my ears, UM2 bass masks the midrange and the treble. The midbass sounds muddy and a bit boomy, and soundstage is narrower compare to CK7. UM2 bass is just too much and out of proportion to my ears. UM2 is really not for those who like vocal. Clarity, balance, and bass quality, CK7 wins. While CK7 is a bit too bright to my ears, minimum EQ adjustment made it sounds right.

ER6 is something like EC7, very weak bass, with nice midrange and treble. I like bass, so again, eventhough CK7 mid and high not as nice as the ER6 and EC7, but it is more balance overall.

So now I'm a happy CK7 owner

Adjust the 4kHz and 16kHz a bit, it will sounds more natural

4kHz -2 stops, 16kHz -1 stop That the best EQ setup in my MuVo.

After 2 days burn-in, CK7 sounds better, smoother high. Few days a ago I reduce the 4kHz by 2 stops and 16kHz by 1 stop, today I tried to play them flat, no EQ, and it sounds ok to my ears , but EQ makes it sounds more natural, reducing the excessive 'sss'.

So try to burn-in your CK7 for about 2 days, it will sound more balance with smoother high It is still bright, but smoother after burn-in.

I don't think they are the same, even if they are, the bass have definitely been tweaked for the better.

Don't mind to share your impression once you got chance to compare it with CK7? Always interesting to try HJE70, but no chance, and HungBros don't carry panasonic. To risky to spend so much money if we cannot test it.

It would be interested how does this compare against the RP-HJE70. Now i am seriously considering these two for portable use.

Not sure how true it is, but I heard that HJE70 is just a 're-housed' HJE50, so they sounded similar (supposed to share same driver), with HJE70 cost about 3.5x HJE50 for the aluminium housing.

Well, anyway, I would be interested to test HJE70 as well

The price tag is SGD 159.- from there you can get around 20-25% discount, or more if you know them well If you read my reply above, i indicated there that the RS-1 cost more than 10 times CK7, so you can guess how much it cost

But please note, as with most of in ear canal headphone, it has to fit your ears well. It comes with 3 sizes of rubber, so I think one of them will fit your ears. For example I use the middle size, when I tried the small one, the bass gone, because it didn't fit my ears.

The midrange is not as good as my Sony MDR-E888, but MUCH better than Sony EX81SL. The CK7 MID and HIGH has a little bit more detail and more open than the MDR-E888, but MDR-E888 sounds more natural. The high is the bright type, but not metallic (at least after 20 hours burn-in). So the MID and HIGH are average quality, still enjoyable but nothing special on the MID and HIGH. I hear a rise on mid-high, the 'sss' sound from the vocalist is a bit too much. I like midrange, and CK7 Mid is acceptable enough to replace my MDR-E888. Overall, it is a very fun canal phone, and it stays in my bag

Yes they do and need buring in. It uses dynamic drivers instead of amature drivers. But i dun think its one for the bass head. unsure.gif

Despite it's small size, the Bass is incredible The level of bass loudness is very realistic, comparable to my Grado RS-1 my Grado excels in the Bass detail, but not much. And the Grado cost more than 10 times CK7. I usually always boost the bass on my MP3 player when using my Sony MDR-E888 or Audio Technica ATH-EW9, but with ATH-CK7, I set it flat, no EQ needed Yes, the Bass is that good! Low and mid bass are big and realistic, the best for the price!

I compare it with my friend Sony MDR-EX81SL, CK7 beats EX81 in all department down to the ground Now my friend is trying to sell his EX81SL

Mid and High is on the average quality, but nice and detailed.

Right, specs really don't tell anything about the headphone sound. There are too many analog parameters that are not measured. Basically electronics test instruments are not human ears, they are too limited as indication of sound quality.

I've got a related question: What's with this 3dB bandwidth thing? Is it a measure of output deviation?

Especially for bass, we want transducer (headphone in this case) that have the widest bandwidth possible. -3 db means at that frequency the level of loudness already droped by half. For example, if the spec says 10 Hz to 20 kHz, and assume the frequency in between is flat on the 0 dB axis, the 10 Hz and the 20 kHz frequency is already droped -3 dB from the 0 dB axis.

But believe me, and other guys here, the spec is really nothing... We really cannot judge the headphone quality by the spec. Must use own ears to judge
