  1. Hi Guys, need your recommendations. Knew that there had been a lot of topic on this, but I'm looking at particular sound so was wondering anyone have come across any good earphones to recommend.

Currently, I'm using the Grado SR-60 and have owned Sony EX-71, E888, KOSS The Plugs and have listen to Shure E5C before. I still like the Grado SR-60 best. Thus, am wondering are there any earphones which have around the same presentation as SR-60 or more bass version of the Sony E888 (like its mids and highs a lot but the bass is left wanting). As for the EX-71, found its bass too lumpy, not enough details in lows and highs, mids also not as good as E888. The KOSS is too muddy sounding and bass is even more lumpy than EX-71. As for the Shure, found them too detailed and bass doesn't goes as deep for me(actually found them a bit harsh).

As from descriptions above, I need a pair of earphones with sweet highs and mids with sufficient details and bass that goes deep but not lumpy, must have punch though. tongue.gif . Do you guys think there's such a pair of earphones? rolleyes.gif

  2. Kachun:

ACtually a three legged switch (in fact a 2-legged would be perfect) is enough for this application. However I think it is still workable with what you have.

    To +ve terminal of batt

    |

    | To +ve on the PCB

    | |

    . . .

    . . .

It looks something like this? just connect your two points to either the topmost left two, topmost right two, bottom left two or bottom right two. The example I bolded is topmost left two. Flick the switch abit and use multimeter to measure, there should be very very very little ot no resistance if the circuit is close.

Thanks for the help. Will try it tonight. So, the negative of the batt just go straight to the negative of the board right? As for the positive I just connect to either of the combination you have stated right?

  4. Have the excellent sounding AE2 mk1 for sale. Very dynamic, smooth and thick highs and mids. Tight and deep bass as well. Mine is satin black in colour and still in excellent condition for the woofers and tweeters and overall box of speaker. However, the speaker grills have shown signs of old age. Then again most ppl don't used the grills.

Comes with DIY spk black 24" stand (only 3 months old). This custom make to around the same specification as the original stand by Simon (famous for making stands and rack in S'pore). Of course it doesn't has the "fins" of the original stand. Was told that the major difference for the stands is to have them leadshot filled which what is done to the original stand. Thus, for buyers who take at my price I'm willing to part with 2 box of leadshots (5kg each - not used since bought because no big screw driver to open the screws of the stands). You will have to fill the stands up yourself then.

  5. Can someone teach me how to fix up a on/off switch?? I bought one that is have 6 legs.

jasonhanik, can you post up the full schematic?? This is because the first amp I make, i actually damage the soldering point of the output side, thus, I'm now using wires to jump directly to the nearest component at the route of the individual channel. However, I couldn't get my right channel to work, do i connect directly to resistor R6?? I did this at first, there was sound at the right side initially but it got cut off and after that can no longer get the right side up again? Any idea what went wrong? Tested the opamps are still working properly.

So sorry for the long questions, this is my first project.

  6. Also check out Xiang Sheng 708A. It's not only a head amp but also a pre-amp too if U have a speakers system. Ma6Jia has brought one set in from China which some other forumer currently owns. I'm also pretty interested in it.

I'm also interested in this amp too. Ma6Jia, are you getting anymore in???

  8. Hi, just like to add my experiences. I have a Tungsten T3 and a no brand MP3 USB drive, and used to have a iPAQ 1930, a Creative Judebox3 and a iPOD Photo. All sound quality are quite acceptable and very much depends on what earphone/headphone are you using with them. For the 2 PDAs, I agreed that they depends very much on the software. Personally the T3 is the worst because it just couldn't go very loud without distortion even when using Aeroplayer. The iPAQ is much better, though I still fing it a bit soft. (I'm a loud guy, listen to around volume 8 in my Sony CD player). The T3 may not be good as a MP3 player because its output is mono, think you should go for T5 if you are thinking of MP3. Sony PDAs also sound better than T3. But if you are those guys that dun go around comparing, then all players are ok.

Here is my ranking for the players I have listen before, hope this helps.

    1) iPOD Photo

    2) Creative JudeBox3

    3) no brand MP3 USB Drive

    4) iPAQ 1930

    5) Tungsten T3

  9. Harmon Kardon are normally more expensive. Heard 1 model when I'm in Hong Kong pushing the big JMLab Utopia, pretty nice sounding. Actually no matter whether it's Nad, Harmon Kardon or the other Japanese branded AV amps, they should fulfill most general surround capacilities. As for sound, basically if tuned properly, the desire effects should be there.

However, if 3 channels are desired you might need to hunt around for a AV amp that have 3 channel surround.

BTW, Yamaha has black coloured models but not in Singapore, maybe you can check up with the shops whether it's possible to bring in a black one for you.

  10. okay if its not my cup of tea, i'll pass on to u, any more comments on this player?

haha. do keep me update if it really happens. laugh.gif I'll be glad to take over.

Anyway, it will depends on your preference of music. Personally felt that it's good for rock and pop because it's fast with tight bass. Not really good for slow vocals and big orchestral as it's mids is pretty lean and bass doesn't go deep.

  11. i used to be using 2 channel setup for home theater. But later bought a Marantz SR4400, must admit that it cannot subsitute my stereo setup for stereo performance. But for movies viewing it's much more enjoying to have all the DTS, Dolby digital effects etc.

Even an entry level(<$500) models like, Yamaha 450, Marantz 4500, Denon 1605 will do the job well. But you might want to consider a seperate spk system all together as it's more convenient. For your info, normally Yamaha and Denon is more powerful, Marantz however provide room for expansion as it comes with preouts and pre ins so you add poweramps later for more power. I refering to the entry models though, higher end models will all have preins and preouts regardless or brands.

For spks you can try the sats and subs combinations from Energy, Kef or Morduct Shot. Pop by at KEC to try it out. I'm going later, maybe you can see me there later if you are going. hahaha tongue.gif

  14. I stand corrected; should say most and not all of Yukie's discography. Didn't buy the ones after 2001 release user posted image as there are 4 more albums in 2002/03/04 (one being a greatest hit) but I've gotten the previous 8 albums and skipped greatest hits compilations.

Japanese cds are very easy to find in HK. Check out Sino Center in Mongkok (Kowloon) and HK Records at Pacific Place, Admiralty (HK island). Those who are into anime and soundtracks will freak out with the vast collection available there.

oh i see, i thought it's only available in japan. I got all this cds too from Japan. super ex... around 40 sing, is it cheaper in HK? BTW, for soothing piano pieces, can try Kelvin Kern as well, or even Jim Brickmen (earlier albums)

  15. Not sure whether you have heard of this person, she is my favourite especially her latest cds. She is Yuki Nishimura. Very nice and soothing music from all her cds, however, S'pore do not carry her cds anymore, I bought her cd every year when I go to Japan.

Also like to recommend Suzanne Ciani, most of her cds are also very soothing. You can try her "Private Music".

  16. Japanese conductor

Seiji Ozawa of Boston Symphony Orchestra?

errrr, actually I really can't remember, listen to him when I was in Japan in a CD shop and was really impressed by his style. But it's too long ago, can't remember. Another orchestra just came to my mind, recording from Berlin Orchestra is also pretty good.
