    Laptop as source

Thanks for the advice. I'll do just that. Maybe I'll just get the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook to plug it into the PCIMA.
  3. I'm thinking of "upgrading" the sound of my laptop without dismantling it. I did some reading up and found that there're certain Cardbus soundcards which are recommended like Echo Indigo. On the other hand, would it be more advisable to just get a headphone amp and plug it straight from the laptop? BTW i use my laptop more for music than gaming or movie viewing. Anyone has any experience? Recommendations for products is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  4. Hi, Just thought I might ressurect this thread. Although I'm no audiophile, I'm thinking of starting a vintage cans collection (I'm a huge collector freak). Does anyone know if there's a market in "still working" vintage cans? I've scanned eBay and they go for pretty affordable prices. If i could get them locally instead of importing trhem, it'll be great. So do you guys know anywhere where i can start my hunt? Many thanks!
  5. How about one that's readily assembled?
  6. Sorry if this has been discussed but what's the foreseeable price for this amp? If it's going for be sub $50, i wouldn't mind giving it a try.
  7. CRAP!!! I really want one from a local source. Didn't see this thread!
  8. I was recommended the Sharp SD-EX111 by someone. It's an amp, reciever and CD deck all integrated into one pretty good looking case. Here're link to the products: http://www.laaudiofile.com/sdex111.html http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PA...PROD_ID=1004979 Does anyone here has experience with it? Or know where i can find it? SLS? People's Park?
  9. That's the price i got from a particular shop's website so maybe the price of $629 is for exports and,who knows, the local price might be cheaper. Thanks for the recommendations. I'll definitely check the shop out. Maybe i can even snag a DM10.
  10. From what i found online, the M31 is going for $629 and there seems to be only one retailer of this set in Singapore.
  11. Wow! Read some rave reviews on the DM7 too but i don't think i neither need a 3CD changer, a MD component nor a casette. A simple reciever + CD player will be more than sufficient, in addition to some great sound. It's being discontinued and replaced by the DM10, which seems equally impressive, except for the hefty price tag. Anyway the one can plug a sub woofer into the DM31, if needed, but what i'm really interested in is the Mission speakers that's supposed to come with the system. It's got pretty rave reviews from what i read.
  12. I'm looking for a mini/micro system at the moment for my bedroom, which doesn't have the luxury of space. I don't really need one that has a good headphone output (sorry headphone lovers) as i listen to most of my stuff off the speakers at home. Just small and compact will do and of course the sound uality must be good. I'm into rock and heavy metal stuff. I'm currently eyeing the Denon DM31, which has been appariased as one of the best "mini" system recently. The only problem is taht reviews do not recommend it for the music that i dig. Any recommendations from you guys before i go downtown to check the systems out? Cheers!
  13. That's why i edited my previous message saying that it's a portable headphone and thus it should be judged on a different class from those Grados, DT etc etc. In fact, i was contemplating on getting a Grados SR-60 but then the size and Grados being an open set of cans, just doesn't fit the bill of being a great portable companion on public transport.
  14. Ok, maybe boomy is not the right word to use but the bass is really powerful on the FC7 and maybe the bass may originate from the source. I'm using a Sony NetMD player. When the megabass level is set to level 0 or 1, the bass sounds pretty mild but when it's upped to level 2, the bass simply kicked in with some awesome ooomph that told me that i got a right set of cans. I'm more or less a basshead so the amount of bass that a set of cans can produce without producing even the slightest of those funny fuzzy sound is very very important for me. The only problem i foresee is that the ear pads may flake a la those sony headphones and maybe it might be too tight for some of you. However for people like me who love getting real upclose with the sound driver, it isn't really a problem. [EDIT] Oh yah.. i forgot to mention that this is a purely portable headphone and thus it is of course not comparable with those headphones that is used for home usage but it's really good considering the extremely affordable price tag.
  15. Ok.. own up! Who's got a ATH FC7? I just got mine yesterday and i've got one think to say. IT ROCKS! I listen to pretty heavy stuff (you know.. those stuff which most think it's noise) and these cans really performed beyond my expectations. The crisp of the treble is excellent and the bass is... BOOMING! Man.. the periods where the double bass drums pounding away never fails to prevent me from doing some head banging on ths bus. This set of cans is really value for money and also for its aesthetic values. Overall, money well spent and highly recommended portable headphones! Cheers!
  16. Thanx for the suggestion guys. From what research i've done thus far, i think i've narrowed my choices to the following: Senn PX200 Sony MDR D-66SL (I would love to get the V6 but it seems a bit too bulky for a portable set of can, furthermore they feature telephone cable rather than straight ones, which is kind of heavy for portable audio) Audio-technica ATH FC7 But I might go for the D66SL since i love the style of my present set of eggos but i'm also keen of trying a set of Senn. You guys know of any place where i can trial run these?
  17. Damn.. The Philips SBC-HD890 looks sweet man. I might give the Senn PX-200 a try. It looks promising but how about audio-technica ATF FC7? I don't know how it sounds but it looks pretty cool to me. Sorry about my shallowness in my choice as i'm basing all my jedgement on the looks of the cans but i haven't tried any of them so all i could do is use my eyes.
  18. Hi, I'm new here. I found out about this site through hwz. Anyway I've been using my headphones for the last 5 years and although it's still working perfectly but i think it's time to retire them. Anyway they're a pair of Sony MDR-D11W, one of those eggo white headphones. I'm looking for a new pair now and i would like to ask for your opinions. I listen mostly to really heavy music like nu-metal and metal-core kind of things so it'll be cool if someone here has recommendations for any suitable headphones. The present one sounds ok but sometimes they can get kind of muddy. I'm looking for a over-the-head headphone (no clip-on or behind-the-head ones) and it'll be preferable if it could be a wee-bit stylish. I was contemplating on the Koss portapro since everyone's like praising it but the design just kinds of put me off a little. My budget is within the range of $100-150. Thanks i advance for all replies.
