  1. selling off this very nice pair of dual armatures iem. Got this to replace my dead ETYs. Have a similar sound to the ETYs but have the bass volume the former lacks, great for non-critcal listening. Selling cause i can't get used to the over-the ear wearing style and thus going back to the etys. Only used for a few hrs. Comes with receipt and full box set. Looking at 180(neg). contact at 985176twotwo
  2. hi all, looking to sell my Ibasso D1 to raise funds for some equipment. Main problem is the battery's dead and cant hold any charge at all. Therefore need to use ac adaptor all the time. So its bascially a desktop DAC/Amp. Other function wise no problem. Looking to sell it at sgd100 OBO. pm or sms @ 98517622 Sam
  3. 雷光夏(Summer Lei) - 黑暗之光
  4. Btw, someone is selling them in the buy/sell section too. Great pair of phones.
  5. I'll bring mine if there's still places left --- full house at the moment. Aron -- mind to put me on the backup list?

  7. 范晓萱 -赤子 If ASOS's <变态少女〉is the Renaissance, then 范晓萱's 《赤子》 is 70's.
  8. 卡奇社 - 日光倾城 张悬 - 城市 苏慧伦 - 恋恋真言 PS: Personally feel this is her best album throughout her 20 years in showbiz. Did not appreciate this album back then in 2001. Perhaps age and life experience changed me........
  9. Looks aside, the mastering on this album is excellent i feel. I was very surprised when i popped the CD into my rig. Chinese Indie music are usually very shaddy when it comes to making albums. No concept and flow throughout the album, crappy mastering and the list goes on. They are in nature musicians, not producers. "La Dolce Vita" defies it all. All the way from the cover-art to the sound mastering, the quality is top notch. Further read on the net shows that the producer is a Japanese who is very particular about the sound quality.
  10. This is an album from 2007, but i love it. Waa/魏如萱- La Dolce Vita.
  11. Cool!, I think i'll do just that. Btw, what do i do after i register on Vpost? There dosent seemed to b a FAQ section on the Vpost webby. Do i just order the stuffs on amazon and ask amazon to shipped to the to the branch at california?
  12. hijacking the thread for a while. Anyone one knows if it is still worth it to get a D2+ these days? D2 is an aging player and it seems like the D2+ is a simple UI uplift. Assuming that i want one, is it still cheaper to get it via Amazon?
  13. hi, 6-800 secondhand can get you a really decent setup already. If i'm not mistaken, you were hearing a Bose setup at plaza singapura? Perhaps you can try going down to one of the headphone shops and have a listen to various headphones first. The shop owners are generally very friendly. Main reason for this is that every headphones/brands sounds differently. If you cant really hear the difference, then i would suggest you start off with an even lower budget and get cheaper headphones first. Then try to appretiate the difference between each headphones. By doing this, you will discover which type of sound/headphone you prefer. Btw, do you intend to bring the system around with you, like on train rides or overseas trips? If yes, then you will be going into a portable setup. If you only intend to enjoy at home, then you will be aiming at a home setup. Other than headphones, you might want to look for a decent source(cd player, mp3 player etc.) and possibly an amplifier. One of the reasons i dont encourage you to get an top-of-the-range headphone now is that in order for the headphones to present their full bloom, u will need a decent source and amplifier. Its getting extremely popular nowadays to play music from the computer. Especially when connected to an Digital to Analogue Converter(DAC) integrated with an amplifier. In fact, you can even port over the DAC if you wan to go into speakers next time. They are many more things to write about and many people may give different suggestions. You may want to dig up threads in the forum for more information. If you find this too time consuming, perhaps you can tell us what type of music you normally listen to and we can try to recommend a suitable setup for you. Not forgetting your current source as well and whether you like big boomy bass or piercing shrills of treble. Have fun
  14. Quantom--Is that a pair of Quad 11/12? With super tweeters? Anywayz, heres mine Sony X5000 - Benchmark DAC1 - Bryston BP20 - Odyssey Stratos - Dynaudio Acoustic BM6P. - Sony MDR CD900ST When i'm on digital playback, i usually bypass the bryston preamp and use DAC1's onboard preamp.
  15. hmmm, if that is the case. It means that the cd900st is supposed to be driven to a volume past my listening pleasure? Volume is the voltage magnitude. Please correct me if i'm wrong. The idea of increasing the input impedence came about when i thought of the Xin Supermacro series and the etymotic er4s/p. They did increase the impedence of the input via a small circuitry and the er4p is bascially a sr4s with less impedence(okay, they might have did more stuffs i dont now ). Okay, i just checked the DAC1 manual. In the manual, they mentioned some very very interesting stuffs. I shant quote cause of copyrights(XEDO!) 1) resistors are placed in sereies to prevent short-circuitsand maintain stability. 2) resistors in series are generally not good for headphones. 3) generally, distortion increases when headphones impedence decreases. One more thing that i understand is that although Benchmark states that the headamp is capable of driving both high and low impedence loads. It includes a gain selector so that users can use the full out-put power of the headamp. Benchmark also states that the user should be able to get a "comfortable listening volume" from 10 O'clock and above. I guess this is what i am missing here.
  16. Hmmm, i get what u mean on the impedence matching. I'm not fully aware of the idea behind it, but i roughly know the concept. About the resistor, what i mean is that i increase the input impedence, then turn up the volume dial to increase line-out voltage(am i right here?). I should be able to to get back my initial current value. And with a higher impedence/voltage now, wont my power ratings be increased? I'm not too sure what u mean by reserve power/more headroom. Possible to explain in more detail or you have some links for further reading? thanks!
  17. I have an question on amplification that i hope someone can answer. Why is it that sometimes we had to crank up the volume to "open up" the sound? My reference phones- CD900ST(rated 63 ohms,300mW, MAX 1000mW) suffers this problem when driven by the benchmark DAC1. I found out that the phones "open up" when i go over 10 O'clock. But the volume is too loud for my listening pleasure. My other pair of phones, AKG 501(120 0hms, MAX 200 mW) do not have this prob. I usually go over 11 O'clock. I find this rather weird. Technically speaking, by cranking up the volume dial, we are increasing the voltage to the phones, effectively increasing the current/power of the system. I do not have an oscilloscope on hand atm, i might try this at the lab though. My only conclusion is that, since the CD900ST is rated at 300mW, it means that the phones work best at 300mW. Whereas the AKG rated MAX at 200mW, easily reached its optimum performance at a lower wattage. I believe i can add a resistor in series to increase current flow thus effectively increasing the power of the system. Is this what is commonly known as impedence matching? I know some amplifiers have impedence selectors at the amp-out line. The benchmark have the for the RCA and XLR but i not too sure about the headamp section. Thanks in advance for any replies.
  18. With regards to the initial question, I spent equal amount on the amps and headphones. But most of the budget went into the source. Why so? Cause i use the source for both my headphone and speaker setup. Priority for me is 1)source 2) headphone/speaker 3)Amp. First, get a good source that is capable of extracting all the info. Then get a headphone with my preferred liking, and finally get an amp that can drive and match that headphone well. Easier said than done though.

    Zhaolu dac

Audiotrio at Bukit Timah used to carry them, not sure if they still do. They carry other DAC comparable(at least what i read on the web) too. Look for Alex, nice guy to deal with.

    ISSE 2008

Any bro here going to the ISSE 2008? Not much hype around this Show of the year. For the first time, i can pay student price. Yeah! Call me an overage student though.

Agree Agree. This is a topic for 20 years ago. 20 years later, lets start a new flame war with Digital Vs Analogue. Just joking just joking.LOL

I cant quite agree technically bro. My understanding was that a belt driven device always create more speed irregularities than a direct drive. One can imagine a belt flexing, twisting and fluttering while transferring the power to the platter. This translate to inconsistant speed. I think the mass of the platter on a direct and belt is the same bah. If the mass is higher, you will need more force to turn the platter, resulting in more stress and flutter on the belt. The dampening of the vibration sounds right though. by keeping the motor away from the pickup, you can effectively isolate the motor's vibration. Although i suspect the belt does induce some vibration. But i agree with the last part. Go listen and get what u think is best for u.

    Audio Setups

For entry turntable, there is always the Technics 1200 series and the Thorens. Not too sure about the thorens, but i got my Technics new at about 1k. With budget carts(Grado Black and AT95), gives a pretty decent sound according to others. For small rooms floorstanders, i remember i was really amazed by the performances of the Proac Tri-Tower driven by the Almarro during last year's ISSE. But then again, your preference might defer. The coming ISSE should showcase some setups within ur budget. Word of caution if u really going into vinyls. There arent many pop music out there in vinyls. Have a look on what music u intend to listen to and see which formats they are on.
