aah, you were a tad too late.. someone sold an accuphase dv 65 for a little under 2k recently and that player is currently valued at 3.5k. dealer bought it and resold it >_< i had been eying that but short of $ right now
  4. i've both, but no longer listen to headphones at all. even past 2am etc i would just turn on the aircon, close the windows so as not to disturb my neighbours and listen to speakers *edit as to why.. maybe my ears are sensitive, but they get uncomfortable after half an hr of headphone listening, beyer/grado alike, not even at high levels at all. more over speakers provide a much better three dimensional soundstage, instead of the headphone sort of bass, you get the depth and intensity and at that distance its a very different experience. on speakers i can drive them to pretty high volumes without the sound pressure being too high adding to a tad of realism, headphones.. a little too high becomes uncomfortable

  6. the serber ish too beezee right now.. if chius habs durex please signs in at deluxe.zzzzzzz.com hi cmk i would like to inquire on the basic sonics of this headphone, is it similar to the grados with response peaks at the higher frequencies?
  7. well.. finally gave in and picked up my 2A3 today from martin.. very refined sound unlike the brash, slight edginess of my older 6550s spent abt 1.5hrs listening and comparing with other amps including a single end kt88 etc, i was suprised by the quality of sound from the hammond transformers vs frankie's tamura irons.. might consider picking up a pair of lundahl to replace the output transformers in the future when i feel like tweaking though. 3 watts rms output. quite impressive. drove my 15 ohm 83db efficiency ls3/5a at slightly past half the knob to listening levels. not lacking in the musicality at all neither clipping nor distorting. i drove the amp to max vol on their own version of their ls3/5a at the shop 15 ohm too, there was no signs of clipping, nor audible distortion. very smooth. pairing the amp with my 100db efficiency full ranger, excellent sound, driving it loud everything comes to life without the high sound pressures at all. man i should have gone 2A3 a lot earlier than poking arnd in el34s and kt88s. bass was delicate with decent slam and there was no lack of depth.. maybe because of the presence of abt 150 litres of air for the spkr to reflex in.. too bad i dont have space for a pair of maulhorns.. interesting design there's a pair of pots called the hum pot.. when i heard some humming at 100db eff, a slight turn of the pot reduced the hum to nothing something that most tube amps should come with tube amps dont slam as well as digital amps. digital amps with their excellent power and damping, very fast sounding.. maybe the best marriage is to get a at least 3 way speaker biwirable, use a digital amp for the bass, and a tube amp for the highs/mids. but cant do that in my bed room however the only speaker that proved me wrong so far was the escalante fremont. the fastest bass, powerful slams, a rock solid imaging.. suprisingly driven by a tube amp, a pair of 845 hyperion monoblocks. very interesting technology that nobody knows, direct coupling, and the only speaker that utilizes this patented discovery. if you're free drop by aural designs and take a listen, hefty price tag, but that sound is now my benchmark for "best sound".. beating almost all the systems i've heard in my life. the bass/percussion was even faster than the 18" subwoofer i've heard a few weeks ago at a hobbyist's home. its on my wishlist now guess i might be able to buy it after.. saving for.. 5yrs more.. gotta get a new car first as a priority.
  8. singnet's ok with the site now, doesnt re-direct to some influeix page already but the forum template's a little wierd.. dont see those smileys nor quoting boxes.. its kinda all text based

  16. i dont see much of an issue driving an 8-ohm speaker, depends on the efficiency of it. unless the efficiency's too low
  17. hehe.. well gentlemen.. i was from hq bmtc roaming the island whenever i'm free in the evening. went with a couple of other buddies to catch crabs at night... every time a rover drove by we proned to take cover.. kinda fun.. lol and the IDSM was kinda hum chee sometimes.. scared see something he wasnt supposed to see nice island, nice history.. and a good life of course... had my share of training, i was combat fit but fortunately posted to hq. did finance till my ord. was a stressful job at times as managing and utilizing public funds often had some form of moral obligations attached.. and.. some higher ranked personnel often was less.. concerned abt that...
  18. well heady i got mine from a previous HWZ mass order at 50 odd a piece. bought 2 pieces, burnt one due to a lousy adapter. very quick amplifier, delicate sounding, detailed, but a little edgy, i took it to max volume before on a pair of 83db efficiency speakers, and anything above 3/4 the sound becomes harsh and treble was a little brittle. Bass control and depth was unsatisfactory, of course i wouldnt expect 15 watts to fwap 12" drivers that well, at max vol my 12" barely vibrated. well if only it sounded a little more fluid, liquid like before i would consider it a good amp thrasher. like i've mentioned in the loft, this amp shines when you run it at 13.8v and use it to drive either high efficiency avantgardes, or zuls, or like me, i've tested them from speakers ranging from 98 db/w 15 ohm to 15 ohm 83db combinations, 15 ohm 86db, 4 ohm 84db, 4 ohm 94 db, 8 ohm 90db amongst the various speakers i had at home, they sounded best on my axioms rated at 98db/w efficiency. at this efficiency, the synergy was acceptable , and the bass was deep (well i might not be fair in this judgement as my speakers are reflexing in a 200+ litre cabinet). terrible synergy and dynamic loss was experienced with poor sensitivity and high impedance. by the time i can afford a zul or an avantgarde i would probably be swimming in 300b tubes or 2a3 tubes already.. given that those speakers cost 10k+ and up.. much better amps could be had.. for that price and match the power supply matters a lot, a better power supply for it would improve the sonics, sounds quieter. but dont lose faith in a tiny little amp like this, pair it with a decent pair of bookshelfs and you are ready to thrash many computer speakers on the market.
  19. hmm.. interesting. i've yet to take a listen to their 300B but their mt12 was kinda ok only. the mt12 was generally smooth and lush till you turn the amp up to reference levels when it starts to sound a little harsh. the only 300B amp from china that's in my consideration right now is the L'Auditoire 845/300B amp given its specs and build. 48kg lump of metal
  20. well wont think the sun audio would clip on that load, would probably be soft thats abt it. wil's got a piece and you could probably bug him to let you have a listen. i recently heard an almarro a205 amp at 4.8 watts driving a humongous genesis floorstander. effortless driving, but the el84 tended to be a little harsh when the vol's cranked up. i would expect the sun audio to be a different class and has been cited to be a pure 3.5 good watts.. even till max vol. frankie was driving a pair of spendor floor standers with them when i was there, sounded pretty decent to me. i might be getting one of those amps from him soon. considering between commercial offerings of 2A3/300b variants right now
  21. Please tell me where U get this quote so I can order 10 pieces. Or is it "guestimation"? Info on 6N11 http://www.diyhifisupply.com/diyhs_tj-factory-trip.htm seen that website a while back 6n11 you mean these? been sitting in my spare parts drawer ever since i retired them from a burn in. didnt like the burn in sound anyway. took a painful 150 hours. although the EH-non gold pin didnt sound much better. the gold pin was much more excellent a tube. interested in similar ones? check a reseller at http://www.xh-audio.com 35 rmb for a piece. $6+ at current exchange rates. else if you think $6 is too pricey for a tube from a reseller, there are 6922s going for $4+ on ebay. find a friend in china who knows where to scout, i think you can bring in a hundred pieces for keeping in the range of $3-4. you could probably ask ma6jia to scout around. who knows you might be able to strike it rich nxt time. just like i'm impressed by frankie's humongous amount of mullard ecc81s in stock.. wouldnt want to think too much of the cost at which he swept them for. take a visit to wiwi tubes too http://www.wiwitubes.com/ they price western tubes a little high but dont know about their pricing on china tubes since china's sorta "local" now. they reply your email quite quickly, just in a couple of days.
  22. i went to stereo today to pick up a new set of triple flanges.. aron was on off wanted to audition the aurvana actually.. but.. shop was kinda crowded.. and the friendly aron wasnt there.. so didnt ask
