Some slightly late recommendations. It's still difficult to beat the true; JS Bach. Remember that Beethoven and Mozart both looked up to this man. Some favourites: The Goldberg Variations, BWV 988 played on the harpsichord by Celine Frisch. (outstanding recorded quality) The Goldberg Variations, BWV 988 played on the piano by Glenn Gould. (outstanding recorded quality) The 2-part Sinfonias and 3-part Inventions, played on the piano by Glenn Gould. (excellent recorded quality) Mass in B minor, conducted by Klemperer. (outstanding recorded quality) The Well Tempered Clavier, book 1 played on the piano by Angela Hewitt. (excellent recorded quality) The Well Tempered Clavier, book 1 played on the harpsichord by Wanda Landowska. (slightly less-than-perfect sound - it was recorded in the 50s - but a compelling listen nonetheless) As you can see, I have a few repeat recommendations which are just played on different instruments. The piano will likely be the more "accessible" instrument, but I enjoy the harpsichord just as much.

'Converting upwards' is in effect, subjecting 'coffee' (music) that has already been 'filtered' (encoded using a LOSSY method) to another 'filter' - you can only lose 'flavour' (sound quality) if you do that. Forgive the bad analogy. And end up with a larger filesize too! The only method to fully take advantage of 320kbps would be to re-encode from the original WAV files.

Actually, the current gen iPod video falls way short of the first iPod Shuffle for SQ IMO. I own both. After comparing the video to the shuffle, you'll need EQ with the iPod video, and that sucks batt life away like... Something that's really good at sucking away batt life I guess.

This arrived in the mail today... Dad, who used to collect records (>10 years ago), dropped by and opined that it's a NM. I'm having difficulty finding even hairline marks under a bright light. As of now I'm up to 3 for both sides. What do you guys think? And one last question - how do I store this sucker? On it's side? Flat? Help! Charismatic, Make sure the canare connectors look like this: Note especially the inside of the 'barrel' - note how there are multiple bits inside 'bending' outwards - they're the bits that ensure reliable connection with the RCA jack. There are FAKES floating around Singapore - but the fakes rarely get the inside bits right. And...

DIY. Get Belden Brilliance Video cable - 1694A or 1695A. Get quality connectors on both, maybe Canare true 75ohm types. If it's good enough for the studio to use, it's good enough for you. Sturdy as hell and one of the best on the market. With Monster cables you are paying for the name, and after sales support. And slick packaging. And their even slicker marketing. And for that price, you can make about maybe 4 sets of Belden cable 1.5m with top quality connectors. You should be able to do this in SLS - second or third floor, in one of the 'corners', there is a shop with spools of cable. They will custom make for you and crimp it professionally. Alternatively there is a Belden seller in SLT, 4th floor I think. Remember to get them to crimp, and have the crimping done with Canare tools.

It's simple really. The price that we get is what the market will bear.

As per thread title. Where do I go, and how much will it cost me? FWIW, enclosure will be Al, and max thickness is 6mm. Most holes will be in 2mm thickness Al.

Hey there K, Yeah - I actually only have 2 records to clean - a Horzu Die Beatles and a German Apple Sergeant Pepper's LHCB. They're not that common (the first one especially), which is why I'm a bit worried about safety issues. IF you really don't mind, I'll take you up on your offer. No obligations! I'll send a PM when I get back (Jan). Then after the cleaning we can have a listen too. The Nagaoka ones are the 'ricepaper' ones right? They're damned expensive down here in Australia! If you willing to sell any extra sleeves sleeves you have lying around, please let me know. And, um, yeah. Parents say study hard and don't play, but human nature is human nature...

Regarding the shops that offer cleaning - would anyone be able to give me a comparison on the services they offer, and more importantly, the quality of cleaning provided? Do they sell archival plastic sleeves (what type of plastic is it?) and MoFi record sleeves individually? Planning my itinerary for when I get back to SG. The reason I'm especially concerned about the quality and safety of the cleaning services provided is because I intend to clean some rare (and possibly valuable) Beatles records. And just think - I don't even have a turntable yet!

Where would one get... - Record sleeves - New records - Second-hand records - Cleaning accessories ...in Singapore? I'm seriously considering a move to vinyl, and I'm curious as to where I could turn to for help back home. Also, how much does a new Rega P3 go for in Singapore - I wish to compare prices between Australia and Singapore. So... anyone? Rameish? cmk? Anyone?
