  1. Problem is, its battery is internal.

Have a look at the iRiver T10 for example.

Spec sheets did mention it lasts for about ~50 hours, but with a good single 2700mAh AA battery, one can expect beyong 50 hours of performance that's actually replaceable on the go. I'd consider that to be good, unrestricted battery life :P

  2. If that's the case, I highly doubt that that Shuffle was normal.

I'll have to hear his for myself, because Afbug's Shuffle (and others) > my iAudio U3 unEQed, and the U3 > any generic S1 player.

    Westone UM1, UM2, ER6i, CK7, Shure E4 and ER4P all as test beds.

  3. Earphone?

    You're probably used to EQ.

How'd you tell the bitrates? Did you upload them onto the Shuffle itself?

Were the songs ripped properly? Gained? Did you volume match and hardware test them side by side?

I doubt the songs were properly matched between the U3 and Shuffle.

  4. As long as the EQ sets the music to suit your ears its fancy its fine, that's why I said minor EQing is fine :)

My iAudio U3 set-up is BBE 01 EQ 1,1,0,0,1, clipping of RMAA test track is at 0.000% (not clip free, but still minor).

EQ-free purists OTG are a bit of an overkill IMO, since an EQ free setup should be used only in noise free environment I think.

    Of course, there are exceptions.

    Add:

There're different categories of EQing as well FYI. Most things on MP3 players and compy software based programs utilize software based EQing as far as I know. This is bad stuff. EQ up the midrange through any MP3 player and you'll probably realize how bad things will sound (mostly nasal), and get a headphone/earphone with good mids and you can probably tell the difference then and there.

Hardware EQ I believe should be good stuffs, but that'll take $$$.

  5. Can I ask how you guys maintain UM1 comfy earbud? Can it be wash under water? Don't wanna spend additional $ to buy expensive cleaning soluton. Any household item which I can make use of?

Get some hydrogen peroxide and let the foamies be dipped in it for a while (eg 5min-15min), take it out, rinse thoroughly with water, and dip it in again for another time for the same duration, then take it out again, rinse thoroughly again and then place it in a mocrowave oven and bake it.

This is what I gather from the foamie users over at HF.

  6. I'd tend to think that the headphone jack went awry.

Zen Microes have a notorious reputation with regard to weak headphone jacks.

Some people pointed out that this is a weak soldering problem I think, so a number of DIYers who own the Zen Micro just solder the HPO jack into place.
