  3. Mod please help me move this if its not to be discuss here.

Been following EHHA Rev A build in head-fi.org

    http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/506984...interest-thread

now that kits will be available in a month time, i been trying to get the transformer.

Fortunately Koba is able to custom wind Toroidal transformers to spec which makes things simpler. :DD

before i place order for 2 transformer, i will like to ask if anyone of you wants to get as well.

    The specs i taking is

    230V primary

    2 x 30V secondary at 500mA plus 2 x 7V secondary at 500mA.

this transformer should be enough for 2 boards. 7V secondary is for the heater.

When Jeff release the kits, maybe we can do a MO as well

  4. Yes, My beyerdynamic DT-990 shipping cost is S$38 dollars after 10% discount from Vpost. (3.5kg) very good processing logistics. Vpost will update you via email from receiving your email-order from amazon, to updating you to make payment, updating you when they received the goods from amazon and finally shipment from vpost. very cool indeed. and totally reliable I think. Singapore company mah. hahaha

This helped me save some good money. I think singapore sell this headphone for about $600.00. I pay about $370 in total. Worth the while.

    OT to the original topic:

Just a head-up with regards to vpost. If u are sending very expensive items, eg headphones, please do yourself a favour and get the insurance. there was once my levi jeans packaged was opened and it was replaced with a toy. Vpost insist it wasn't their fault and i never receive any compensation.

Granted that the fault could lie with the supplier rather than with vpost. but as the package was with vpost for at least a week before shipping, i tend to believe that the fault was with the staff over at vpost processing facility.

Ever since, i will use borderlinx for very expensive items as they have insurance from the seller and to me.

though slightly more expensive but i am happy to say, so far so good.

  6. This SOHA II is poisonous.

Now i got into the deep hole of tube rolling :bash:

Some impressions of tubes i used with my alessandro MS2:

Electro harmonix 12AU7: A little of everything. Bass was punchy and better extension as compared to RCA clear tops. Mid and high are clear and sweet with no distortion. Yet it does not have any really strong points. Just a average performer imo.

RCA 12AU7 Cleartop. Punchy bass and very sweet high. However the bass extension is a little muffled/distorted. Not suitable for pop/rock. For strings and vocals its very very nice. A little wider soundstage.

Made in Holland 6DJ8/6922. my tube is labelled hp tube. It used for their scope back then. Manufactured in holland. Very sweet midrange, better bass extension as compared to RCA cleartops. however the high dont sound as sweet as the RCA but its no push over either. the best selling of this beauties is its reproduction of piano pieces. If you are into piano pieces, this is a must get! very fluid sound, its as though you are hearing a live performance. My current favourite

Thats about all i have for now.

some tubes on its way to me:

    12AU7 telefunken smoothplate

    12AU7 Amperex holland bungle boy

    6DJ8 Mullard.

Shall update when i receive them

I guess i am in a deep deep hole.

  7. Just completed my SOHA II.

    Tubes used were EH 12AU7.

Using Mundorf silver in oil cap for C1.

    Source: USB monica running 24V

    Impression:

Please pardon my lack of description as i not really good at describing.

HUGE HUGE improvement from SOHA + JISBOS even with wima cap at C1.

Much wider soundstage and clarity. More details and sound more musical. Bass went deeper without distorting.

With MS2, i feel like i am in the front row of the orchestra when listening to Beethoven 9th symphony.

Female vocals of Hayley Westenra sounds very sweet and realistic

Further improvement when Wima was changed to mundorf silver in oil.

    Extra clarity and details.

SOHA II sounded less veiled. Everything became more transparent.

    Next upgrade ahead:

To try modding the SOHA II for 2.75mA. they say it improves the bass seperation.

    And adding mojo to monica.

Case up this baby. It run quite hot so mayb wont cover it up.

    [attachmentid=4467]

Sorry for the messy table.

I highly recommend SOHA II to anyone running SOHA. And especially so if you use grado

  8. Level 2 SLT Federal. They can order from RS for you if they dont have stock. I order only 1 Alps pot costing $3 before through them from Farnell. They sold me some BC560C manufactured by Ohm Semicon.

Other than Federal, i dont think there is any other shops having them. I combed the entire SLT when i am building my JISBOS.

Note:One particular staff at federal can sound quite "dao", rude. Just be patient

By the way, do not get the 550 from Koba. Although they have the same number, they cant be used. My JISBOS was non operational till i swap them out with 550 from SLT.

    Good luck.

  9. Pinikaso the post is 5 years ols already.

Anyway. try going to Koba at Peoples Park Center I believe they also sell opamps. If buying thru web and don't mind paying more. You can buy from sg.farnell.com. They have same/next day delivery free for orders above 30sgd. =)

    as far as i know,

koba dont sell audio grade opamps. u can call them at 65331672 to check

RS components and farnell are your only choice around here i guess

  10. For classical, I usually get from Amazon which is cheaper and best of all, it's in US pressed.

    http://www.amazon.com/Vivaldi-Four-Seasons...2255103&sr=1-15

    i recommend amazon too.

i usually go for used CDs as they are dirt cheap and if you are lucky, you can get almost new condition.

to save even more, consolidate your orders using services like vPOst or borderlinx.

inter US con shipping is usually free. so just pay for the shipping from US to SG via vpost or borderlinx

  11. Thanks Cloud. Didn't know about Silicon Electronics. I asked many shops in SLT in the past. Anyway, nowadays I don't have time during office hours to go down. My office is just 5 mins from Farnell.

    haha okie.

Whatever you do. Pls dont kill that SJ74. SG dont have it at all. I think even farnell dont stock them.

Initially i wanted to try JISBOS on perfboard. But after getting all the parts and realised I cannot find that SJ74. So no choice. ordered boards and that SJ74 from AMB

    <_<

  12. Just plain forgot to order lah. Ah pek already, brain probably 3/4 dead. :P

Got the shopping cart all filled up but checking it again to make sure no mistake b'cos 1/8W resistors only can get from Farnell. If miss out one, then die because 10 resistors less than $1 and minimum Farnell order is $10. And so got to be very sure before I checkout the cart.

1/8 resistors can be found in SLT. Silicon Electronics. 3rd floor corner shop. They have the entire list available except for 2 values. 42R and one more 1 that i cant remember.

Most transistors can be found in SLT as well. All except 1. 2SJ74 i think. combed the entire SLT and they dont have it.

The rest of the parts can be easily gotten from Koba.

  13. Thanks for the encouragement!

The projects between me and the Bijou -

    1. HPDAC - DAC plus headamp totally powered by USB, parts assembled and ready for soldering

    2. e12 - delay relay for SOHA to protect headphones - parts ready, waiting for time to solder

    3. JISBO - output buffers for SOHA - waiting for parts

    4. Case the SOHA (inc e12 and JISBO)

    5. Case CKIII already built with a selector to act as pre-amp

Sitting with my Bijou kit is a amp5 and a amp6 kits. I keep telling myself. No more kits until I finish them all. The elders in my youth would say "my eyes is bigger than my stomach" (mak chew tua kway tor), ie. I think I can do all these projects when reality is I don't have the time.:P:grin:

what parts are u missing for JISBOS?

  14. Great news cloud. Man, I wish I got time to do this. Got several projects in the queue.

well at least the stuff are easy to source.

trans available from SLT(get from Bell. I think theirs is the cheapest for 36VA)

diodes and cap all available at koba. I used 3A 40V schottky (1N5822).

the only time consuming part is the casing(as always  )

One thing to take note of. DO NOT install the optional capacitor thats supposed to reduce noise. I used a 1800uF Panasonic FM cap rated at 35V, which should be more than adequte for the setup.

However, I experience short. the cap and the transformer got very hot. Removed it and everything works like a charm.

I contacted yeo about this. waiting for his comments
