  1. Hi, I have a budget of about 200-300 and would like to acquire a headphone primarily for home use (computer late night audio) and perhaps sometimes portable use. A can amp would be used to drive it when used at home. I listen mainly to pop. looking for something that has some warmth, but still neutral sounding overall. something more engaging than the er6i. Thank you!
  2. The initial problems I faced using them were due mainly to the microphonics. After many months of daily usage, the wires at the plug side however gave way inside the plug. Faced some momentary signal loss due to this problem. Later solved it through re-plugging of the plug with Neutrik, followed by Canare. Going back to Neutrik soon!
  3. Using it with my shuffle. Not a very engaging earphone. However, it sounded much better when amp-ed, but is too much of a hassle to bring an amp around with the shuffle. My amp's based on CMoy and Grado's RA-1 btw, with ad8066.
  4. Anyone seen these ER designed earphones in SG?
  5. Yes! Was at Koba yesterday and realised that they are getting much more expensive than before!
  6. no gold... that's the downside.. haha... anyway, i'm hearing details i've nv heard b4.. maybe cos due to the better separation!
  7. k! got it rewired! got a neutrik right angle plug!! though it's just a plug change! THE SOUND IS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT!!! it seems to now sound like a super-souped up er6i =x... shall try to describe the sound change here... speed has increased, with the preservation of the tinge of warmth... the low ends are getting even lower now.. haha... the timbre has gotten better... overall the ambience, separation and naturalness, wut i shld have been hearing, has improved tremendously! never expected all these frm a mere plug job! k.. downside to this wud be that i now dun have a very shiny gold plug (just love the shine of the gold as compared to my fren's plugs =p)... and the inability to read production code offhand... hehe... =p.. the plug seems too big for the shuffle though...
  8. the ER6i's cable came loose in the miniplug while i was returning hm frm sch today... there was sound only frm a side and when i fiddled with the wires right after the plug exit, i cud get stereo! but my fingers have to be thr to sustain stereophonic! haha... anyway, removed the plug covering and saw that many strands have broken! tried to remvoe the inner sleeve but even with a deep scratch left on the plug side and a deformed inner sleeve due to excessive clampin of the pliers, the inner sleeve still stood thr! so i've cut it off and now have a bare wired er6i! =x gonna get a new miniplug to replace it... any recommendations? I want a straight plug... does LHS have any Neutriks or other nice plugs? preferably small in size (portable use)... how much do they cost? thanks!
  9. hi all, i'm in search of a earphone to supplement the er6i. sometimes er6i's just too quiet... hahahaha... the at cm3 seems like a very nice earphone to supplement it. anyone has any experience with it? reviews say that it's lacking in the bass department, but i'm not that much of a bass freak and it can definitely be equalized. thanks!
  10. Yes, it's powered by a single 9V battery. The AD8066's able to take down to 5V across +ve and -ve rails.
  11. Thanks... just resoldered the 10R resistors back in... and plonked in the AD8066... (10R resistors are outside the feedback loop)... Everyone's become more musical now!!! Never have I heard music like such from the shuffle... I would say the AD8066's leaps and bounds ahead of OPA2134 in terms of sonic musicality... Details I never knew existed now comes out like nobody's business!! Though the bass is somewhat lacking... (even with 1000uF per rail... ) I find that it kinda augments the shuffle which I find too bass heavy... (EDIT: the bass actually goes deeper now... sure makes my music on the go much better... ... however, it still doesn't make the ER6i sound as fast as my speaks... but speed's definitely slightly improved... ) Cheers!
  12. Here's my attempt at my portable can amp... layout is similar to RA-1's... with the omission of the input resistor... other than the resistors, the rest are all spares I had lying around... Resistors are 1% generic throughout. 1 Rubycon 1000uF YK cap for each rail, with a 0.047uF MKT cap per rail nearer to the opamp... 0.47uF stacked film cap used for input dc blocking... Orange LED set at around 10-12mA... Using OPA2134 currently, with 10R output resistors removed. Had serious hissing problems when used with AD8066. From memory, there werent any hissing problems with the 10R resistors installed. Gonna fix them back in later and test again. Kinda like the sound of the AD8066 as compared to the OPA2134. Gain at +2, corner frequency ~3.38Hz.
  13. Think I found the REAL fault.. nothing to do with the ER6i.. but poor contact between the iShuffle and the plug... realised this when I connected the shuffle to an amp and had to push the connector towards the side to obtain sound for the other channel... through headphone amp the ER6i gives stereo nicely..! (though it SOMETIMES still goes mono when I turn my head) Anyone else with the shuffle having this problem? Possible for me to send back to Apple? Cheers!!
  14. Hmm.. retraced the problem to the plug... any idea if the plug covering can be removed so I can redo up the joints? Or anywhere I can send to to redo up the joints without changing the plug? Thanks!
  15. Hi all... Is there anyone in Singapore who does recabling for ER6i? Or can it be done on my own? ... Or do I really have to send it back to ER? If DIY, wut cables wud you guys recommend? My use's portable solely! There is a minor cut in the cable!! and there was channel imbalance when the cables are ruffled... til I zoomed in on the cut area and bent that area inwards (ie, a loop) which solved that problem... Thanks!
