  1. Hi my trip had been postponed by 3 weeks. Will fly on 21st Jun instead. Orders will close by 10th June. You got more time now! :)

    Hi, :prettyprincess:

I am interested in the MK V dual mono SS. So if I order by 10th June 2008, does it mean I can get the amp on 29th or 30th June 2008? The amps through you are directly warrantied by Sword Yang/David Zhezhe right? (because there were some concerns I had read in headfi for amps not ordered directly from them).

I will be sending a separate pm to you about my interest in the amp and for necessary info on the ordering from you. :helpsmilie:

    Cheers.

  2. Hi all

I'm new to this audiophile business, and was thinking of getting full-sized cans to listen at home. The source would be my Creative Zen Microphoto player, or my Dell laptop (horrible soundcard). Since I'm a student, I don't have much to spend on a good set of cans, or a high-grade CDP (although I do have a Rotel spinner, and a Denon amp, but I can't use them at the moment). Budget for cans would be about $140? And would I need a headamp to go along with the cans?

I'm considering changing my sound card as well, any PCMCIA/USB suggestions?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

    Hi,

Since your budget stated is not too far off, will be using it at home, and that you were actually thinking of a Grado in the first place... I would suggest up budget a little or go Jaben and speak nicely to Uncle Wilson for a Alessandro MS1. He may just give you a friendly price. MS1 rocks!!!

It is rather easily driven, known to be rather durable (dun just take my word, check the appreciation thread in headfi!) and will complement your future collection well. It is also cans that is regularly being sought after, so rather good value and easy to sell on, if ever you need to.

You can see that I have got one myself... and I still wanted it after I got a Beyers DT990. For me, it's light weight and "my" seasoned pair of comfies (with my tiger-balm cap mod... the local current 50cent coin too small here, LOL) makes it my second most comfortable can after my sennheiser HD495 Silver. I also like it's retro look and black colour.

So the question should be rather if you enjoy your music using it with your preferred setup(s). I suggest you make a trip to Jaben and/or Stereo Electronics to try on some cans to find your preference before deciding as your unique ears (and maybe head) are the ones that will be enjoying or suffering from it, SQ or fit-wise.

For an amp, you may want to hold back a little while until you really need an amp or get when you find out more about the wide range of amps that are available now, after trying on quite a number of them to make your decision... do look out for Mass Orders and the Classified sections here and other similar forums for good deals that may occur, even for headphones.

Always try to find best value, especially since you are still a student, my friend.

    Cheers.

Grados are the other option but u might not like the comfort. they're supraaural cans which press against the ears. some heads/ears can take it, but others can't.

Goldrings are circumaural so they rest around the ears making them more comfortable.

i think it's best to try both for yourself rather than just reading reviews.

    Hi sghound,

Nice to read your posts and see that you have been active lately, your T1 still in the frontline of action?

:b2t Strangely for my long earlobes... the Beyer DT990 don't cover my ears complete and well enough that much prefer the sitting on pads of my HD495 or MS-1. Moreover the latter 2 are featherweights compared to my Beyer can.

    Just me.

  3. I personally felt IEMs jam my ears and i have an uncomfortable feeling with them...and even low volumes make my ears crackle and weird sensations in my ears.

    What's wrong?

    Hi Fizban,

A few months back I was feeling the same, because I was not comfortable with sticking ear plugs into my ears, and I really hate the microphonics feeling (ears hearing strange echoes, especially while walking).

But introduction and rave reviews of some popular and affordable canal phones like the OVC TC20 and Mylarone, plus my need for something portable, non-leaking and preferably isolating led me to try them out.

It took me a while to get use to and for the microphonics of the canal phones to settle. Some users suggested round the ear wearing method and the use of the clip to counter the microphonics. Sometimes, a change of a more suitable tip may solve the problem too, besides changing the SQ.

Now I am happily using either the pristinely clear mylarone X3 or the more bassy XB to isolate me from children cries, inconsiderately loud ramblings or other undesired noises while I am in public commute. And while I am enjoying my selections of music in my DAP. Cool.

But it's up to you if you may want to try canal phones for sometime to see if you can get use to it.

    Cheers.

  4. *** SOLD ***

Consists of: Amp and std IC.

GP Batteries and an unused Nasonic adaptor/charger included to complete the package.

The charger took me some time to source for it (for the pin size) and I did not even get to charge with it at all as the battery lasted till now.

    Thanks for your interest.

  5. From what people have mentioned of the PA2v2 compared to LDM+, at first the LDM+ would appear to have lean bass but it's actually the PA2v2 having boosted bass. So if you want a more neutral response, the LDM+. For more bass, the PA2v2. YMMV

I totally agree with Pegasus21, as I felt the same.

I cannot recommend as I also rather newbie, I will just give my own experience:

My pref is to use PA2V2 with a cardas HP-I Interconnect (as it is a clear, fast, not so coloured IMO) with one of my DAPs on the go... as I prefer the more friendly volume knob and it's relatively higher volume response, along with the more forgiving boosted bass good for mp3 pop or rock tracks, making them more musical sounding, even though PA2V2 is slightly bigger than the LDM+. I do found some parts of a few songs that did not go too smoothly with the boosted bass of PA2V2.

I like to use LDM+ especially for vocal or classical tracks as the not so enhanced bass gives it a more neutral and accurate sounding. For the LDM+ I prefer using my Mumba-D Interconnect or Ultimate Link Black Emperor (mine's the earlier version with black cable and yellow label, not the silver chain-link one). These 2 interconnects brighten up the sound and enhance the musicality of the LDM+, albeit that they cost > LDM+ itself. When turning the volume knob on The LDM+, it's not so friendly for grip (trying to do some diy to inprove on this) and there's some static noise when turning volume whilst playing a track.

In short, LDM+ more accurate sounding, lean on bass, better for vocals, classical, string instrumentals and slightly smaller. PA2V2 more enhanced bass, more allowance for higher volume, better volume pot. But do try different IC to find your own preferred sounds. I do not use IEM so I shall not comment.

Good that both can drive my 250ohms Beyers DT990 too, that it gets to go out with me too, sometimes.

Generally, I prefer the sound from LDM+ through my mumba-D best now, good for most music types. If not for the lower max volume when I use my DT990, and the not so good volume pot.

Do go try them out yourself and let your ears decide. Yes, Look out for them in classified.

    Cheers.

  6. I also play for fun only. :D Its not too difficult la. Every games week, you're permitted to make one transfer free. If you want to transfer say 3 players, then one is free and the other 2 will cost 4pts each, = total 8pts deducted. You will still get a free transfer the next gameweek. Thank note, its gameweek, not actual week. So lets say this week got EPL games on Wed and Sat/Sun, its considered as 2 gamesweek and not 1.

If you go on like this, you sure can catch up. I played last year and to maintain position in the table, need to score about 40-50++ pts on the average. To climb the table, its at least 60++ pts average.

My captain scored a massive 0 pts last gameweek. C. Ronaldo got rested. :bruce:

    Hi afbug,

Thx for the info and technical assistance. Guess you can be named the Technical Director of East Luncheon... :rclxms: ... but got conflict of interest hor....

I was just lucky to put T. Henry as captain which got me a massive 18pts. Not sure how they rate those pts though becos chked tt sometimes even concede no goal can be avg pts but saved 3 and conceded 2 goals can have higher?? :rclxub: Same with outfield players who scored some got less pts than those who scored.

I just hope to make it to Top 5 finish if lucky enuf. I also picked C. Ronaldo who played no part, but lucky my sub Wayne Bridge got me 6 pts i think... and i thot gary speed played well enuf but only 1 pt?

Cheers to all for a good weekend with lotsa fun and exciting EPL action.

  7. Welcome to the jungle! A little late but still able to make it if you're good. :P Boy top scorer in your 1st week!

At last, able to update the standings!

Top 3 scorers of week 8:

    1. East Luncheon - 63

    2. Gunner Fc - 59

    3. afbug athletic -57

Top 3 in the league after week 6:

    1. Ballack of the World - 407

    2. afbug athletic - 401

    3. Gunner Fc - 377

    League position remains unchange.

Hee :) Beginners luck only...

Now trying to find the rules to see how to transfer players... :helpsmilie: very tough to catch up... only want to join for the fun of it.

If it isn't West Ham.

    Cheers.

  8. Wahhh brother ahdui, in the buying mood again... buying good amps after good cans and better cables... such hunger and budget how can call yourself cheapo.

Sorry I only heard either SR-71 or hornet (not sure which one now, can't remember) briefly... so nothing to suggest.

Hope u get the right stuff and thus the sounds you crave, and enjoy.

    Cheers.

  9. old enough for kiddos to call me uncle

young still to be discriminated by old folks

the vague ambiguous inbetween now :(

i predict i will spend a lot of money here.

i already feel like getting another pair of earphones on top of speakers.

    damn u all~~~~~~~~

    hahahahhahahha

    Buy buy buy...

    Enjoy enjoy enjoy...

  10. Tested the 3 snakes yesterday, and got the orange Mamba D as I love its synergy with LDM+ and DT990. Further runs confirmed this combo as simply superb. Tried rock, pop, classical, cantopop... simply luv the way the setup brings out the potential in DT990. Somehow the synergy not as solid with pa2v2. Found it brings out the musicality and upped the tempo for the LDM+.

Guess I will be sticking to this setup for a while. Of course, the setup includes to sync with my ears too, and so u may just have your own prefs. But if you use a LDM+, u may just want to consider trying it... albeit that the price of the interconnect higher than the little amp... but what price if it sounds magical?

Thanks again Wilson, service impeccable as ever. Perhaps soon have to expand premise as Jaben's more popular each passing day. :rclxms:

    Cheers. :cans:

  11. Tests coming soon, and my next rig depends on it... :P I was promised a CDP (I think I'll go for the SCD CE595 if it is not too expensive) if I got a 3.8 average. :P Without a CDP, my future HD595 or AD900 would be useless.... *GASP*

Haha, will definitely go as soon as possible...

Good Luck to you, I'm sure u will be motivated to work hard for it too... so it will also be good for the dealers as you will prob get more portable and /or Home Equipments... to tie this back to the topic (hee).

Hope u get to worship the "King" too.

    Cheers.

  12. Hi Top-Gun,

    1) I got your *La.. message.

    2) I believe your take on the snakes, so you got any or all of them?

    Hi Ahdui,

Seems Resistance is rather futile in this blackhole of Audio Bliss. I can see the snakes haunting me when I close my eyes soon, ouch. Gotta go visit temp palace again soon.

New tune : Who let the snakes out? ssssss...ssssss... ssssss...

    Cheers.

  13. Why mamba not black??? :rclxub: Who named them? even though it sounds funky and colourful like samba or spicy like sambal...

Looks so nice all... Illusion somemore :lust:

Too bad printing money is illegal and sure get caught one. Die die must go try & then ask Mr W for more friendly :helpsmilie:

Any idea when the new stock of snakes & zen-m connectors will be in?

  14. Welcome Bas, :rclxms:

Nice amp u got there... with the matching DAC somemore. It's "the" next amp I plan to upgrade to.

I am happy and enjoying my music from Beyers DT990 (also recently from Jaben), which I find rather versatile for most music genres... but Best for you to tryout & hear for yourself which brands/models of cans best suit your listening Preferences.

Well at least from your purchases, can see you've got some upgrading power. The Dealers here will be pleased.

Welcome again to this forum where most everyone encourages each other to spend more money for audio bliss or eargasms.

    Cheers.

  15. *** All Hail the "King" ***

    Great king this...

The "musical juices" run strong in this One.:rclxms:

Hear it, or hear it not, there is no try. :yeah:

To me its price is irrelevant, as it's beyond me. At least for now.

Thanks to Wilson and to the owner, that I have got the chance to be blessed by this heavenly king. It's good to know how good a set of cans can sound. I'm glad that even after the experience, I can still be contented & happy to rely on the humble output from my current setup to keep me going. The same cannot be said of food, because once I had eg... certain Chui-kway and Hokkien Mee from certain stalls, not many such dishes from most other stalls are acceptable any more. Heng ah!

And Nice knowing u, brother Ahdui. Great stuff you bought! Hope you enjoy your new precious-es.

    Cheers. :cans:
