  1. --OT alert--

Ah Rameish, I think we are of the same generation. I bought my Linn Sondek, Meridian amps and Linn Kans from Colin Tien in 1981. Colin is the elder Tien's first son. Colin subsequently emigrated to Canada.

    --back on track--

I understand the Bose speakers uses cheap paper cones but they sure cost a fortune to replace. And they do need to be replaced now and then. Remembered there was some lawsuits in the earlier years when Bose sued certain audiophile magazines for trashing their systems based on sound tests. And Bose won the case, subsequently, no one dared to trash their products. Great marketing! Dunno the sound.

i have heard the sound. For any non audiophiles its a wow experience. Imagine driving a toyota corolla all your life and suddenly started driving a sports car. They have impressive sounds that fool the untrained ears. And their marketing make them look high class but they are actually below mid class.

for audiophiles, they are not worth more than $300 period. Muddy midrange, no extreme frequencies. Ask your friend what kind of speakers he is using now. If he is having some crap speakers - i doubt he really is into music then juz get the bose.

  2. Let me know if you guys are looking into the purchase of STAX,

let me know the model that you are looking for.

I am able to source it for you.

Once the price is agreeable between us, I would list the item on Ebay for Buyer Protection, and you could get the Stax after paying for the agreed price.

Let me know if you are keen.

    Regards

    Velve

reach me at my mail, velve.long@gmail.com

Item comes with standard warrenty as offered for new Stax products.

OH really? is the warranty local? and how much do u charge for stax omega 2. If u advertise here u gotta be sure u are cheaper than price japan.

  3. ........

if u go to store in USA u are confirmed to get a higher price + tax, espcially best buy and future shop and all.

check out ebay instead. I do know part of the reason is those guys dont have to pay rental for shop, employ stuff, easier to evade tax (remember that u dont pay state tax in usa if u order from another state)

BUT $300USD vs SGD$600 is still ludicrous no matter how u argue.

And yes, ive triple checked the harddisk is made in singapore. I have not heard of seagate 750gb harddisks made anywhere else.

i do not think pc hardware prices are lower in us...esp hdds.

chk the series and model too. us models are seldom as update as sg.

price wise- mostly also lower, evident from the hordes of angmohs shopping in simlim.

eg... just sometime ago i got a fren studying in us wanted to replace hdd from his ext usb case, he looked thru all the radioshack type of shops at the mean time i was hunting a new hdd in sg, we all looking at seagate 300gb hdds, in the end i settled for a seagate barracuda 7200.10 but he only manage to get a 7200.8

and at least S$50 more than me :(

note - mostly not everything cheaper in sg though

how i wish i can get earphones in sg at us prices :(

btw there are 2 kinds of ang mohs, one working in singapore and the other kind is tourist. The expat shops there very much for the same reason as we do. The tourist probably buy alot of japanese cameras because they wanna eschew some import tax into their country. (europeans and canadians pay awesome amount of sale taxes so they might bring back some pc parts)

  4. actually there're quite some people own k1k in sg, just they are not active in online community, thus not known.

there are also quite alot of ppl having $500k sound systems in singapore, just they are busy following stock trends, making law policies, doing surgeries, collecting soccer bets, smuggling drugs, or just some old geeks who retired and dont know how to use the internet.

  5. Oh, don't worry about the Voltage. Its always the first thing that i consider when getting any electronics. Even so, if something goes wrong, I've got a pretty decent Step down transfomer that'll do the job. And I'am not a big believer of clean pwoer supply so its alright for me...

Whether clean power makes an improvement or not depends on where u live, the kind of house u live, the year the house is built, the type of circuit your wall socket is linked to.

if u live in HDB, power conditioning will make a huge improvement in a resolving headphone like STAX.

TIP: tell kaneda to declare the headphone as USD $50 when it ships. You will save alot on taxes.
