yup crumple_r maybe u can organize a meet some place. now k702 became the bottleneck of my rig and i have been on the hunt for a better headphones like lcd 2 and he 6 for example. tho many told me its a no brainer for me to get k1000, but k1000 price is really quite beyond my reach.

yup b22 is not a simple and cheap diy amp to build for sure and if its anyone first diy project, i am sure you are gonna spend more on mistakes. alamakazam knows very well since he has build one himself. the more fanciful and features rich the b22 is, the more cost are involve. thus ti say a very simple build for example a bare casing with very simple on off switch and canare internal wirings cost around min 1k as what alamakazam told.

Well i know this is a long shot but hope to give a try. i am thinking to get HD 800 but as it not a cheap headphone to get, i wish to find out if it got a good synergy with my da11+b22 balance, so wonder if anyone who has a 3 pin xlr hd800 kind enough to loan me for 2 days? ;D or will there be a meet anytime soon

sigma 22 completed in wiring. pardon for all the finger prints as we only decide to clean the chassis after everything are finailize. this was taken during the build. boards were purchased from amb. however, the smaller things like e24, o24 and otto 2:1 switch were done locally with parts from sim lim tower. we even integrate e24 and o24 into a single board unit.

both neutrik and amphenol have press to release thingy, but mine is amphenol
-
you are wrong. only 1 neutrik, the normal headphone jack. the rest are amphenol
-
amphenol, they are so much better then neutrik in my opinion

OK, after 5~ hours of intensive listening, i would like to give my impressions on b22 in both balanced and single ended mode. i listening to a wide genres of music from pop to classical both live and studio recorded tracks all not lesser then 256kbps, some are lossless formats. i use the following setup Macbook -> Lavry DA 11 (Toslink) -> B22 -> AKG K702 balanced this is the very first time i heard balance setup and i am awe. from recorded tracks with classical, i cannot but said WOW! each details are very well define and crisp clear, spacious with an uncanny imaging are also what makes me breathless, you will not feel the sense of a very narrow soundstage being created to feel big, everything are there in the right place, i think the word conjested kind of suits the feeling. there so many minor details that i did not get to hear through single ended are all faithfully reveal, chimes tingle flawlessly, tracks with a lot of instruments that sound being packed and squeeze previously are effortlessly reproduced. the singers voices will not overwhelm the music in the background, i can hear every tiny breath. Studio tracks were amazing as well, though lack the sense of a spacious hall, the music do not sound lifeless at all. I personally thinks, balanced brings the music to life, all that is missing is the visual aspects of the performance, sound wise, it is real! B22 drives k702 like a breeze and who complained that they are phones that lack the ommph in the bass? Hehe =P both balanced and b22 brings k702 to a whole new level. Music from different genres play effortlessly out from k702, the only genres that I feel that k702 are not suitable for are heavy metals, metallica? At some point, I feel that all the instruments seem all cluttered together. Single ended I am extremely familiar with all my tracks in single ended with k702, thus this is where I finds the power of b22. In SE, the music feels more upfront and a tad smaller in the sense of space. B22 is total silent, I cannot hear any statics or anything. Power to drive k702 is similar in SE, bass are equally present, attacks, decays are fast and strong. Other aspects are very similar to balanced, but please do not be mistaken that is equivalent to balance mode. B22 do not sound like soild sate at all, music is smooth and transparent. I am surprise to feel that b22 runs almost as hot as a tube amp, my casing were design without any ventilation holes, yet I think even with the holes, the unit will still runs hot as I have tried taking off the cover and I can feel the heat emitting from the heatsinks when I place my hand close. So I wonder how come some can put b22 into a plastic casing? Luckily my whole casing is aluminum thus the whole casing acts as a big heatsink to dissipate away the heat. Is balanced worth the upgrade, for me, yes! It bring life to the music. To finish off, I can say b22 is worth every penny spend, it does live up to all the raves it has created. Every time I put on the headphones, I finds it very hard to take it down, I have owned DV3322, heard numerous amps like yamamoto, earmax, audio-good, they are all very good amps, however none come as close to what b22 can produce, I think I have said this somewhere, some time ago, only RSA B52 can match b22, but I think both are different in many ways in terms of technology and hardware, sound wise, both are equally amazing and beautiful in their own ways.

hi bro i think you are not very sure about b22 channels setup relations, thus for the benefits of anyone who are not sure i will give a brief explanations here b22 channels configs are used in this few ways. 3 channels left, right and active ground - thus this is know as single ended or unbalanced 4 channels left +, left -, right +, right - - can be config to use a passive ground with any two of the boards to work in SE/unbalanced mode. 5 channels left +, left -, right +, right - and active ground - same as 4 channels but the ground utilize a board which amb would recommend as from his specs, active grounding is better then passive grounding. 6 channels it is actually two 3 channels config and that is why a 6 channels can drive 2 SE headphones at the same time. by wiring up the left +, left -, right +, right - channels, it became a balance setup. thus this is also why some people would feel that a 6 channels b22 is an overkill. now do you get the picture on the relationship between the b22 and balance wiring of a headphone? and as usual, the more the channels are being required, the more the cost will go up in every way from casing, balance volume pot etc. having a separate psu casing is because it will remove humming due to electronics interferences from the toriods if house within the same box as the box.

this unit definitely cost alot, however, i can build for anyone who is interested at a fee. it will sure be lower then building it from oversea, however, b22 major cost will still be at it cases unless there is more then 3 pieces then i can nego with the cnc to get cheaper pricing. currently a dude has already requested me to build a 3 channel separate psu and i am working out a cost for him
-
front panel and case are fab by a cnc company after much very hard persuasion
-
the case are design solely by me with references to amb khamitis group build. internal layouts were totally by me.
