you forgot to tell him to swap to ES2 cables .. the improvement is remarkable ! :P

  2. frankly .. after moving from Mayler X1 to X3 to UE3 to UE5 to TF10, i personally think if you enjoy music and is willing to spent to get that audio bliss .... save up for the UE TF10. It's just an experience that anything less will not suffice from now on. IMHO, of course .. can save quite a bit if you skip the upgrading process

  3. Hi all,

could I get some quick advice. what's a good small mp3 player in the market? one that can be used for sport? not looking at ipods.

also, is there any 'knowledge bank' websites which review these things in terms of sq?

    many thanks in advance

try the refurbished ipod nanos at ipod store ... i got a 2 gig one for gym and running at a steal ..

just noted that you are not looking for ipods .. try the creative stones then

  4. Just went to Jaben 3 days ago and bought a Shure SE110. Also a pair of nice headphones. It's sound quality is exactly the kind I'm fond of. Good emphasis on the mid-range while at the same time managing bass and treble well enough.

I would say the SE110 is an excellent pair of entry-level Shure IEM. But it's sound signature is rather different from the Bose Triport IE that I have as well. The Bose has more bass and its treble is not as good as the SE110's. The SE110 has very good clarity.

But of course, all these is how it sounds like to my ears. Different people will think differently. Oh, but I realised even though the Bose Triport IE is not noise-isolating like the Shure SE110, I still think the Bose is more comfortable though a bit too loose. The Shure has good fit and amazing noise-isolation, but not as comfy as the Triport IE.

Oh, and I want to ask you guys here. If I say I'm not exactly an audiophile, but like headphones with good sound quality, would I be able to tell the difference between the SE110 and SE210? Should I have went for the SE210 instead?

did u try the UE Triplefi 10 when you were at Jaben?

  5. Need advice.

When ripping from CD to convert to FLAC, should I choose to rip per song or whole album as a single FLAC file?

What are the advantages and disadvantages?

    Thanks.

You save time if you convert to FLAC per album?

I don't think there is any big difference ripping it via song or via album..

  6. I recently bought SE530 earphones to pair with my ipod. Though most of my music was encoded at 320 kbps, I felt that the increase in sound quality is not much. This is partly attributed to the poor sound quality of my 4th gen ipod headphone out. Later, I have added a headphone amp to the setup and now I feel OK with the SQ though not spectacular.

sounds quite close to the cowon D2 specs

  7. Hey guys,

After resisting the iPod camp a long time, I finally took a dive and bought the iPod Classic. Reason? Great battery life, great capacity, video and price! I was previously using the Sony NW-HD5.

So here's the disappointing part - the iPod sound sucks. On certain songs, I can hear distortion when volume is slightly raised. Soundstaging is poor, and treble is very harsh. The sound isn't anywhere near my trusted Sony.

I'd like to find out how the bros here dealing with the crappy sound (if any...probably none as the DAC is crappy) ...

    Thanks.

are you using any of the ipod EQ? the ipod has seriously one of the worst EQ i have ever heard ... try to listen without the EQ

  8. Does good player benefit little with low end amplifier? Or not at all?

So should I go for better player with no amplifier? Like a Cowon. (Does the cheaper U5 sounds as well as a D2?)

Or a normal player with a low end amp? Like a Zen or Samsung + DogBone Amp.

Or even just my phone + a GoVibe Petite+DAC?

Or am I exagerating the difference between a Cowon and a Samsung and a Creative?

I think it's tough to try a player, I might be able to bring my own earphone but I can't play a track that I already knew well.

Think you have to try it yourself, Some people don't feel the difference, some people do.

For me, the difference is obviously from the low-ends and soundstages. You must also remember to feed in the amp from a line-out. I don't believe that most phones have any line-out.

My personal opinion is that the Cowon beat Samsung and Creative in terms of SQ (without amping).
