  1. erm wat can i say... every year the Radetzky March will be conducted with the conductor facing the audience and the audience will clap to the beat. interesting finale to the concert. this year new year concert is conducted by quite a controversial figure, Daniel Barenboim. just coincidentally over the period of the Israel–Gaza conflict.
  2. marketed by sony taiwan as asia's norah jones, i find her husky voice intoxicating. i got her 2nd 2 cd album Joanna and Wang Ruo Lin. the music on her album doesnt reflect her personal style. check out the videos she post on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/user/newtokyoterror any one seen her first album start from here, the grammaphone at jp2 doesnt seem to have many cds, more movie dvds.
  3. This years vienna philharmonic new year concert. The first ever conducted by a French conductor.
  4. i recently get to know this singer Charlyn "Chan" Marshall aka "Cat Power" when listening to Taiwanese radio. Her song is in the movie "Juno" soundtrack. haven't got her albums yet. so listening to her songs on youtube and from her website.
  5. Li Yundi exclusively records Chopin and Liszt. His :Liszt album have a variety of the more popular works "La Campanella" and "Liebestraum No. 3". And of course anything played by Martha Argerich is good
  6. iRiver H100 series have optical in and out. Can be rockboxed for flac playback. Harddisk and battery can be upgraded easily. Too bad its discontinued
  7. thank you for your effort! its encouraged me to start more diy projects. i gonna start simple like cables and passive preamp and of course cmoy when i am confident with my soldering skills.

    My DIY Cables

Try some heat shrink at the ends, will look neater more professional than using electrical tape.
  9. the lithium-ion packs have some drawbacks which are common to all lithium-ion batteries. it will be too technical to discuss in a single post. with that in mind i went to gather parts to make a 4 x AA battery pack. based on my research i decided to use 2000mAh Sanyo Eneloop ni-mh as my primary battery source due to its consistent voltage close to 5v (in group of 4 AA). i m also getting the Maha Energy C401FS charger which is essentially the best mini charger i could find locally. it comes with 4 x 2700 mAh PowerEx ni-mh batteries which ironically doesnt perform as well as the Sanyo or PowerEx 2500mAh ones. Sadly the performance is like 4.5v (in group of 4 AA) so i will keep it for other use. will be using eastgear. seems like a good place to find batteries and stuff. EDIT: Went to eastgear today, the eneloop is out of stock. bought the imedion instead.
  10. Music, in order to enjoy music better. My first source was a Technics PCDP and my first CD player was a Technics too. TNT Audio mailing list taught me how to DIY and introduced to me vinyl. My office intranet forum, this forum and VR Zone poisoned me on using PC as a source. Later on, switch to using headphones. Headwize, Headfi and Tangentsoft encouraged me to pick up the soldering iron again.
  11. can i hijack this thread have a questions on batteries. i m planning to diy a battery pack for my dac. does li-ion and nimh rechargables have a difference in performance and effect on sound quality?
  12. Natalie Merchant, my all time favorite vocalist.

  14. Listening to this: The Rubinstein Collection, Vol. 35--Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2; Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini; Prelude, Op. 3, No. 2 (RCA red seal Label) As this first time I really listened to Rachmaninoff, cant really say much except I like the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini very much. Being a Marthaphile wannabe, no prizes for guessing which rendition I will listen next. Out of sheer curiosity: Sting - Songs from the Labyrinth. John Dowland (Composer), Robert (ii) Johnson (Composer), Edin Karamazov (Lute), Sting (Vocals) (DG Label) Anyone besides me bite the bait. Wasn't very impressed by Sting's effort. Borrowed from my sis: Debussy: Préludes I & II. Claude Debussy (Composer), Walter Gieseking (Performer) (EMI Classics Label) I cant really digest this at the moment. Mono recording.
  15. Theres this chinese cd printer XingWaiXing which reprints Deutsch Grammophon classical cd for the China market, to counter the rampant piracy. I have jazz cds from xwx which are very good quality. Any1 seen these being pallarel imported. btw recently China have been producing a few top notch pianists like Lang Lang, Li Yundi and Chen Sa. these are named the top 3 Chinese pianist by the legendary Fou Ts’ong.
