The HMV previously at Hereen had a section full of classical. New HMV is at the new shopping mall opposite Centrepoint, can't remember the name. Not sure if their Classical section remains.

I just bought two pairs of Shure from Stereo Electronics Plaza Singapura. That is after testing it and comparing it with few other phones, including several Sennheiser. I found the sound not as warm as Senn, but overall more balanced. Highs, mids and lows are discernibly good. I bought for Sis and Bro-in-law. They are using for TV sets. One good thing about the Shure is that it is relatively easy to drive compared to Senn, i.e. suitable for TV set and laptop. Can't remember model off hand, but I can check. It is closed, and very comfortable. It is also way below your budget of $150.

Emailed them, they have many 6SJ7, but just dun have Tung Sol mesh plate . Those interested will need to look elsewhere.... Yup, they are good tubes for DIY projects.

You should probably go audit it personally to make sure you like the sound signature (may bring your cans and CDs), and to do any check you like.

You said it. The bass out of Maverick on my cans has never ever been traced on my limited past amps. That explains why my jaws were on the carpet when I first heard the Maverick.

Chip in my 2 cents here. Before that, thanks to Maverick Team Leader who loaned the unit to me. I have never heard my k701 responding so willingly and lively before. Wow. Like many reviews above, the headphone amp department packed a punch. It easily kick up storm on my K701 and DT880 (600hms). The prat and speed is obviously there. Compared to my Zero stock headphone amp, Maverick is miles ahead in term of power. Compared to my Darkvoice 337, well, shouldn't be compared at all some may say, since the DV337 cost much more. I'm not saying that Maverick is ideal, but for that price .... I can't ask for too much. I have only briefly listened to the DAC department, not enough to make comments. Finally, it is unknown if the amp and dac will or will not improve upon further run-in; as with many other audio equipments, they probably will. I'm done with Maverick, looking to audit more toys.....

either way will do. I'll put my zero to probably get thrashed by the maverick.

I noticed that Mapleshade products like Silclear have "out-of-the-box" principles; have you seen interconnects made of plastic bags? hah hah..... The look is damn hilarious, but I suspect that the performance is nothing funny but seriously notable. Back to topic on static murdering using cotton (is it expensive?), spray (I've heard Nordost is interesting) or whatever.... any sharing will be good.

Just to share... I was recommended to use anti-static wipes. They are basically like wet tissue that you can use to swipe your cables, and reportedly CDs. As I am using DV337 with independant volume control for each channel, I treated one of the two interconnects to do some kind of A/B comparison. The result was that I realised that I have been listening to highly muddy sound (to be blunt, sh**). After treatment, the sound basically clears up to give definitions. Untreated interconnect sounds so different that I think nullified most of my investments. Thanks to Francis who intro'ed me to static killing. Since then, I treat my interconnects once in a while, until I picked up an ionoclast. Again, I did an A/B comparison b/w the anti-static wipe and ionoclast based on my DV337. Both methods clear up the sound. The latter clearly performs better than the former in terms of getting rid of static electricity. Audibly, the cleaning effect is more significant with the ion emmision method of the ionoclast, relative to the cheap wipes I got for like $10. But for $10, it is the best bang for buck I have had to date. The ionoclast works on CD too; I can't put a finger to the exact effect on CD, but it sort of lower the noise floor a little. From the tests, I understood the evil of static. It kills the dynamics, separation and clarity by putting a veil over your music. These are my personal experiences, YMMV. I disclaim again, YMMV. One side-effect of ionoclast, I must say, is that you will get bulky forearm muscles from extensive use. That can be upside or downside, depending on how you like that. Pls do remember to switch hands to get a more balanced growth. There are many other gadgets that rid static, e.g. furutech. I have not yet gone to the point of investing that amount of dollars, therefore unable to experience the greater effect that comes with the higher cost (compared to ionoclast), if any.

I suspect it is the power cable that makes the diff. Badbad2000, glad you enjoyed our setup. I guess it is with the HD800 that you enjoyed (probably Kds5000's). The power conditioner makes a considerable effect as well. Somewhat, it blackens the background to bring out the layers of music, with more separation and focus. I audited the DV337 cum Marantz combo with somebody's (think uberburger's) vintage RS-1. I was struck by the neatness. Makes me feel like posting a WTB RS-1 thread.

Yeah, thanks again to all organisers. Apologize that few of my equipment didn't show up, some went to a friend's place and some to marketplace. The difference between RS1 and RS1i is bigger than I expected. Each will suit very different taste. Now I know what they meant by the detailed sound of Benchmark. I would expect the DAC to match well with DV337, as one has detail, the other has serious warmth to match with. Too bad no chance to verify during the meet. oh yes, the pics are superb.

The list above is tentative, depending on need and feasibility.

There are two shops at least, one of them Well Audio. Can't rem the other one, Martin maybe. The one with a real nice Auntie sells Jan Philips 6SJ7WGT. No, not expensive. Just that there are cheap lobangs hidden around, if you have the energy and time to hunt them down. I am using GE 6AS7GA, which I personally prefer over my Tung Sol 5998. For driver, i swap around RCA reds 5693, Tung Sol 5SJ7G and Jan Philips 6SJ7WGT. Yes, those coconuts are sweet and big.

For DV337, the shop at Burlington had Jan Philips driver tubes and GE power tubes. You have to consider the price.

By sharing the following, I am not in anyway saying that the OP is credible or not, because I absolutely have no idea and no thus comment. I was once charged twice the price for my very first pair headphones in Singapore. So that is possible, in general. Since I lost the receipt, I shall not broadcast the name of the shop. But that incident remains a fact, at least to me and my friend who was with me. To be frank, I am not going to forget that shop and the incident; those $$ meant much to me in my younger days as a working student. Back to the topic, although the above incident happened to me, that doesn't mean anything with reference to the OP. But my comment is only with reference to what theory_87 posted, to highlight the general idea of "buyer beware". I agree that if the OP doesn't have proof, then no point in guessing. Online comments can be subjected to lawsuit as we know, and we also know that forum users' real ID can be identified technically speaking.
