The uta-hime is back with a bang.
-
Hmmm, I guess the Pro900 at Audio Basic was not fully burnt in, but I find it weird that they use a headphone that's not performing at full capacity to showcase their Dr.DAC amp and Oyaide cables.
-
Both Miffy and the iQube come from The Netherlands so they should have good synergy together.
Looking at the design, interchangeable clothes and name, I would've sworn it's Japanese.
-
guess i will try out the hfi series thoroughly @ stereo then.
you guys going to stock the *soon to be released* hfi 2400 ?
what genre of music did you try the both cans with ?
Because.. personally owning the k702, the k70* is simply one of the best if you are comparing classical or jazz lol.
Or should i phase another question.
Any headphone recommendation for pop ?
Budget around 600+ ?
I tried the Pro900 with a Jpop, jazz and classical track. You don't need a lot of bass for classical, pop still sounds ok with rolled-off treble, but everything sounds bad when the midrange is recessed badly, which was the case for the Pro900.
I enjoy pop with my K240 Studio and Sextett, HD650 would also be a nice choice with the right amp.
recable it!
ALO SXC cable was awesome with the HD650 when I tried them with the GS Solo. It had a wide 3D soundstage, no veil and very detailed.
-
I tried my K701 on Audio Basic's Dr.DAC and tried the Pro900 after that. Coming from the K701, Pro900 had virtually no midrange, so I put it back after a minute.

kchew wat happen to yur fuse?
omg lucky the fuse broke and yur rig is alrite or u will need to move to balanced setup hahaha
nah i already ampless now for a time being so my main aim is amp for now
for cable i will need cos i dun have any balanced cables and all my cans are undergoing minor surgery to xlr .....
darkopi some1 is confirming getting a zana Deux amp so we will have a wide variety of balanced amp to try out hehe
p.s.- some1 also getting a K1000 btw......wonder which balanced amp have good synergy with it?
btw kchew try the silver hifi fuse if u like fast and good details...
although furutech is much better wider soundstage and fast transient attacks but lacks focus....
i think mix around with gold/silver fuse and furutech to achieve balance spectrum
It blew when I turned on my router, and after I took it out it fell apart.
some kind of "fire chicken"?
Hot amp, literally.
-
I just turned on my router, which was plugged into a socket on another wall, and my Stello stack turned off on it's own. Must be this stupid house circuit, I should get it checked soon. I put in the stock fuse and now I feel I'm missing something in my music.
-
My Furutech fuse blew and fell apart.
Dunno if I should go back to Furutech or try Hi-fi Tuning. Any ideas?
-
I haven't changed my DAC, amp and main headphone for more than a year already, hopefully I'll have something new next time.
-
They replaced the 1/4" plug and headband elastics, removed the foam inside and checked for rust.
-
Six boards, building 2x three-channel B22s?
-
When I brought my Sextett in for servicing, they charged $20 for labour excluding parts.
-
Next time we must organise Can Slam beside Super Import Nights, then can invite the race queens over.
-
Some impresions:
EAR HP4:
One of the most impressive amps there, really brought out the music no matter what headphone I tried. I didn't bother listening critically but just enjoyed whatever was playing, even if it were hard rock. Could survive a 4-way gangbang with HD800, K240 Sextett, AD2000 and PS-1000 with oodles of power left to spare.
Orpheus CDP:
Fantastic pairing with HP4, they are so liquid and detailed together.
Electrostats with Blue Hawaii:
Only heard them for 5 mins when a rock CD was being played, not exactly my favourite genre. Still, they promptly squashed my notion that electrostats have no bass. Imaging and detail are fantastic. HE-60 was a bit too bright for me, Omega was a little uncomfortable, Jade was perfect for me.
Darkvoice 337:
Fantastic pairing with AD2000. Fast, punchy and lush. 2nd favourite amp with my AD2000 after the HP4.
RWA Isabellina:
Creamy smooth and lush, although treble was not as extended as expected. Would make a great bedside rig playing jazz.
HD800:
Favourite so far was the one with Oyaide connectors, forgot what cable it was. Mundorf and Black Dragon were a little too warm for me, APS recabled with Furutech rhodiums was a great 2nd place. Shockingly good imaging and soundstage.
Headroom Balanced Desktop:
Great sound in a tiny package. I want one in my office now.
AstinTrew CDP:
Very nice lush sound. Digital output to my Stello DA100 reminded me that I need to get a proper full-sized CDP soon instead of relying on a PCDP.
I'm still banging my head at the missed chance to try the CEC belt-driven CDP and the Naim set. The queue was just too long for those for a good reason I guess.
-
Awesome pics, and awesome meet! Hard to imagine a meet better than this one.
-
Someone please remind me to bring a USB cable and my VDH Digicoupler for my DA100, it would be great to use all four inputs on my Stello.
-
wah friday I just walk over and get it haha
It would be nice to have a preview of HD800 + Isabellina HPA before the meet.
-
Sounds very tempting. I wonder how much burn-in time they have though.
-
Now you can hold hand with Kchew.
Team AKG is not that gay.
Jojo, you wanna know how the K701 will perform with the Dr.DAC right? I'll be at Audio Basic tomorrow after my lunch, will be bringing my K701.
*Edit*
Urgh, forgot tomorrow is Comex, looks like I'll pop by next week instead.

I would expect the silver cable to be slightly stiff. The copper cable should be more flexible as it is multi-stranded.
