  2. If you have the budget, go for the Musical Fidelity V-DAC (available at a retailer @ Adelphi I forgot which one).

Alpha Audio @ 1st floor, the floor above the aunt teo's cafe.

And if you are going in by the "main entrance", its the one opposite, they have two shops opp each other.

iirc the price is around 300~400, call to confirm.

  3. Okay guys, I am intending to get the Little Dot Mark Vii+, the budget solid state balanced + SE amp.

CLOSED, DECIDED NOT TO WAIT ANY LONGER

You guys can pm me, or sms me at 93296198, Junliang.

I do not have a credit card, and I will be getting a friend to do the transaction with david.

This is the first time I am doing such MO, so thank you for your coorperation.

    So here are the details.

    a. Item of interest and product details.

Little Dot Products, be it DAC or AMP, as long as it is an item from Little dot, its fine.

Items from little dot can be found here: http://www.littledot.net/forum/viewforum.p...3364296f651cce5

    In Tinyurl: http://tinyurl.com/ygfnsb9

    c. Information on the source/vendor, as well as any warranty information.

From what I had read in the web and head fi, david or swordyang from little dot is very responsive and reliable. For any faults on their products, they will try to fix it well, even by means of totally replacing the unit foc, including shipping.

Should be 1 year warranty, but i heard cases whereby they do foc shipping and repair for some cases outside 1 year warranty.

    d. Minimum number of interested participants before the Mass Order can proceed.

No minimum number, just as many as possible i guess.

    g. Deadline by which confirmation of price and availability by the Vendor must be received.

    erm.. nil ?

I hope these info are sufficient.

Do ask me if you have any query, and post your questions here for transparency and preventing of repeated questions.

    Thanks for viewing

  4. What was the setup at the point of audition of the k702 ?

The terms you used seems like a case of underpowering.

Or maybe its just that you did not get use to the k702's sound signature.

with some setup, it will sound dry and none-musical, just reproducing everything correctly

  5. i am using the audiotrak imAmp with my stock k701.

    enjoying the combo :)

opamps are very cheap... no ?

shouldn't be a concern imo hehe.

i got my imAmp at $170sgd only, when audio basic had a huge discount on them at first jan 2010..

totally no brainer, so I whacked it :)

Actually with regards to reliability issues, though the companies behind them are important, the more important thing you should be factoring would be which distributor you are buying from.

Audio Basic's vincent is a very friendly guy and nice to deal with, great after sales service :)

*I hope I have not mistaken his name.. been awhile since I went to audio basic.. Sorry if I got it wrong*

but yeah, no problems with my imAmp.

    a superb versatile amp.

  7. Those are monos.

I am having the x-mini max II, which sounds really great considering its size.

But, at the msrp, it is not really worthy.

There are tons of offers for them, like 1 for $40 FIRST HAND !

I regretted being one of the early bird, but oh well.

If you need a portable speakers, or wish to upgrade your pc speakers, just get it, do some search for cheap first hand x-mini max II, you wont regret them.

  8. The title should be changed to "Anyone getting bored of this audio obession?"

Lol, so many comparing speakers vs headphone..

Anyway, in the past, when playing with portable, there are various stops where I seriously was like, I paid so much just for this ipod strapped to an amp with caps ?

Stepped into desktop, and with my current budget rig, x-mini max II w budget Koda Subwoofer, "quite mid fi" headphone rig", its totally pwning my portable rig.

So I am in the process of clearing my portable audio, leaving to iphone + customs.

So just "converting" the money that I spend into portable, and use them to upgrade my desktop rig :P

But nope.. I don't get tire listening to my music.. they just sound so... good o.o

As if I can part with them xD

I am using akg k702w BD cable, with a soundstage that many says is fake, but sure it doesn't provide me with the "In the head" sound, which many deem as the problem in headphones.

This is how I categorise them.

IEM- Meant for on the go, super ibud, isolation

Speakers- Relaxing, Sharing music with many, soundstage

Headphone- Critical listening, meant at home when you cant disturb others.

And, I am quite against listening to portable headphones, why use headphone for portable when it cant isolate you from singapore's bus/train's NOISE !?!?!? And, why restrict yourself by using it at home when you have full size headphone ?!

IEM for outdoor, full size headphone for home, speakers for home, Period.

Gonna do some mass sales this weekend.. cant wait to hear the improvement in my music... gosh !!

  9. Personally, between the two I'd go for coaxial, but I've experienced a cheap PCDP with a cheap optical cable being better than a $200+ soundcard with a Van Den Hul digital coaxial cable. System-matching plays a part here too. If I could I would go for either AES/EBU or BNC.

If you need more than 3 meters, coaxial would be better as there is less signal attenuation compared to optical, and coaxial cables can go around tighter corners. But if you have a lot of electronic equipment around with lots of emissions, then optical is the way to go.

Thank you for the details answer :)

Guess I will try to get an optical and a coaxial cable, same material if possible and AB them.

  10. If you are interested, I can loan you a set of the Mapleshade's entry level digital interconnect for you to audition at home.

Thank you for the offer :)

It seems that the Cambridge Audio DacMagic that I am going to purchase next week end does not come with any cables =(

So I've got nothing to compare the Mapleshade's entry level digital IC with..

    By the way, just asking.

Optical and Coax, if both are available, which one should theoritically sound better ?

I asked as I didn't want to go through the trouble to test out which input is better, as according to the posts here, it seems that the wire materials also affect digital signal's transfer speed. Unless the 2 cables are made by the same manufacturer with the same material..

So yeah, optical and coax, which one ?

  11. Digital coaxial cables should ONLY be 75 ohms, if you need a cheaper alternative, a regular video (yellow RCA cable) interconnect or antenna cable (terminate the plug to RCA) works fine too.

Just asking, does those higher quality one provide audible difference ?

    Is it significantly better... ?

    Thanks :)
