  3. Dear all,

I provide upgrade/Mods services to all types of digital sources, like CD/SACD/BD Players, as well as DAC, and most recently, music servers and i-docks.

    Scope of work includes typically:

Power Supplies : Installation of low noise FRED diodes / higher grade capacitors, as well as Low noise Ultima / burson Voltage Regulators. The main purpose here is to reduce the system noise.

Bybees : Installation of Bybees quantum purifiers and Bybees Music Rails.

Digital : Installation of Low jitter ultima clocks and burson clocks.

Analog : Changing of better quality opamps, or the Burson Class A discrete Opamps, as well as circuit modifications to get the sound you need for your system.

    Featured Product.

    Wadia i170 Dock

We have extended mods to ipod/iphone docks like the Wadia i170, primarily to make them a better digital audio transport. The mods specifically lowers the jitter and noise on the digital output, to provide you with more details and analog sound .

The analog audio output gets improved as well, and if you need us to focus on having a high quality digital output, do let us know.

Which ever the case, get to the heart of the Wadia dock and upgrade it first, before comtemplating on the external power supply.

    Sample of job done:

    Customer Review:

Dear James, After the mod, Prat is definitely better. What I mean is the depth of bass seemed lighter at first. But with more burn in things sound much better. The bass is better defined. But I think maybe need more than the 50 hrs recommended. One thing very clear is that the background noise floor is very very black. This is very good tapestry to hang the rest of soundstage on. I am excited. Things sounding much better. burn in, burn in. Ha ha :).

    Mod Packages:

    Performance:

Install a burson clock for the USB --> SPDIF converter IC. This is very important to lower the jitter level on the digital output.

Change and upgrade all the critical Surface Mounted capacitors to Rubycon ZL low impedance capacitors.

Add film capacitors at specific locations to reduce the noise further.

Mod the power supply circuit to ensure stability and low noise output of the voltage regulators.

    Above will be SGD$390.

    Signature

Install a Ultima clock for the USB --> SPDIF converter IC. Ultima clock has a lower jitter spec than the burson clock used in the performance package, to give you even lower jitter specs on the digital output!

Install 1 Ultima low noise Voltage Regulator for the digital section

Install 1 Bybee Music Rails to clean up the power supply in the incoming DC power supply. This is much more effective than having an external linear power supply!

Install 1 pc of Bybee Quantum purifiers to clean up the digital audio output stage

Change and upgrade all the critical Surface Mounted capacitors to Rubycon ZL low impedance capacitors.

Add film capacitors at specific locations to reduce the noise further.

Mod the power supply circuit to ensure stability and low noise output of the voltage regulators.

    Above will be SGD$790.

As a promotion, the RCA output for the digital out will be changed to DH Labs Copper RCA, with silver cabling (BNC is also available).

Do contact us for more details!

    James.

Initial feedback is good. Listened to "September" on the Daughtry album and the first thing that I said was WOW!

Listened to the same song 3 times last Monday before sending my cdp over for you to mod and I still remember how it sounded before and how it sounded after your mod.

Details on both vocals and on the instruments specially the acoustic guitar really came out. Not so savvy on audio terms but I think WOW says it all....

Will certainly consider the additional mod next time.

  6. Hi all,

The Bybee Quantum purifiers are in stock. Both the large Quantum Purifiers (for high current AC / Speaker purification purposes) as well as the small slip-stream purifiers (for lower current and signal purifications) are in stock.

    --------------

    What Is Quantum Purification?

Jack Bybee’s Quantum Purifiers were originally developed for military applications, many of which are still highly classified. These amazing devices have been used for years by knowledgeable audio and video enthusiasts to reach levels of signal purity and transparency unattainable prior to their introduction.

Within any playback system, musical and visual information is transmitted by electrons flowing through conductors. As electrons interact with the conductive materials of cables and circuits, very low-level (quantum) noises are generated. As quantum noise energy accumulates in the propagating signal, low-level details pertaining to ambience, soundstage, timbre, dynamics, color fidelity and picture resolution are obscured, robbing the presentation of vividness and life.

Bybee Quantum Purifiers operate on the quantum mechanical level to regulate the flow of electrons that make up the signal (picture a metering light regulating freeway traffic flow). Current flow within the Quantum Purifier is unimpeded and ideal (think of the unencumbered flow of traffic on a lightly traveled expressway). During transit through the Quantum Purifier, quantum noise energy is stripped off the electrons, streamlining their flow through ensuing conductors. Unwanted quantum noise energy dissipates as heat within the Quantum Purifier rather than emerging as a layer of contamination residue over the audio/video information.

The benefits of this process extend beyond the physical length of the Quantum Purifier. As electrons speed through the purifier, a “slipstream” effect is formed which facilitates current flow in the surrounding conductors of the playback system. Introducing Bybee Quantum Purification into the electron path reduces quantum noise and increases signal velocity, resulting in performance improvement beyond what is attainable by any cable alone, no matter how well designed.

Slipstream: the New Generation of Bybee Quantum Purification

In 2003 there were breakthrough developments concerning the theoretically ideal materials and physical form needed to optimize noise reduction and electron flow through the signal path. Advances in materials science and fabrication technology have resulted in a unique new carbon fiber-based Quantum Purifier with electron noise reduction and electron Slipstream transmission properties that are distinctly audible and visible, and superior to Jack Bybee’s earlier developments. The Bybee Slipstream Quantum Purifier represents the Quantum Purifier concept taken to the limit. Slipstream Quantum Purifiers are now available in three versions—with copper, silver or gold leads—for optimal performance in different components and applications.

  8. 3/20 update!

Have sucessfully done surgery to change the DAC chip of the SA50 (AK4392) to that of the K01 (AK4399).

The DAC of the of SA50 is using the AKM AK4392, which is of a lower grade as compared to the top of the line AK4399 as used in K03 and K01.

Have sucessfully done the operation to change the DAC chip in SA50 from the AK4392 to AK4399.

With this change, straight away you gain 3 dB of Signal-to-noise (AK4392 120dB vs aK4399 123dB) and 2 dB of THD+N (AK4392 -103dB vs AK4399 -105dB). Much more lower noise floor and analog sound immediately!

Here are some pictures of the operation.

    Customer Feedback:

"Impressive upgrades. After leaving the player on overnight for a few days, i decided to listen to some cd's. On one of the earlier pressings of ABBA gold, i was surprised that bass on many tracks had grown surprisingly punchy and had more authority. The vocals, sound stage and mid range had also improved quite a bit! On another one of my favorites, Dire Strait's Brothers in Arms XRCD, the sound was absolutely incredible! I'm sure that with time, it will even improve farther. Overall, the upgrades have made dramatic changes to my CD player and would recommend James to everyone who is thinking about upgrading their player. Its been very nice dealing with him. "

    Hi James,

Happy Chinese New Year to your family and you. As I promise to give you me feedback on the modded Marantz SA-15S2 done by you.

After tens of hours of run in I managed to have actual time to sit down for serious listening.

The first CD I popped in is from Zee Avi’s ghostbird album. The first impression was that the separation of each individual instrument were well presented with spacing among each other nicely layout.

Secondly the layering of the whole spectrum of the music were well staged.

After further listening I found some unfound musical notes that were not so obvious previously now popping up. Wow…the feeling is so nice, especially on those low notes. Moreover, the entire presence of the bass section become more compact and robust, even in low volume listening. Lastly the vocal of the singer become more emotionally attached to the song due to the improvement of the separation and layering of the whole spectrum.

I will highly recommend any mate to try out the full mod before deciding on the next purchase. Definitely you will find something you have previously missed on your existing player.

    Thanks!

Mr Loke, on his SA15-S2 fully modded with ultima clock / ultima voltage regulators and circuit mods.

    -----------------------------

After 20hrs of burn in the music is natural, musical, with good soundstage. Instrument separation is good. I love it!! I will let it burn in further. It will be very good. Thank you for your advise and appreciate the service your have provided. Thanks again. Very happy it improves so much!

Albert on his CD6003 with Burson clock.

    Dear james,

After the mods the soundstage has opened up wide. Very clearly defined bass and sweet highs. While listening to the 2nd track of Ray Brown Trios's live at the loa--summer wind album, I finally heard the phone ringing in the background that caused the audience to laugh. Always thought the bassist was doing some antics to make the people laugh. My SA8003 sounds really transparent and musical now.

Now separation between different instruments is so clearly defined. No straining in the sound so I can play louder shouting at the listener. Definition is there even when playing softly. Cannot wait till it fully burns in!

Bryston CD Player with Ultima clock and full Mods:

    IPB Image

    Customer feedback:

    Hi James,

Have been travelling & back only recently.

Didn't really have a chance to hear it in depth, however did some listening sessions the last 2 late nights & my findings are as follows.

The bryston cd player is already in itself very musical & has superb timing & dynamics with many positive traits.

Didn't know what to expect when send in for the mods, thought I just gave it a try, majorly because of the persuasive nature of the feedbacks

I read about from the other users.

After the mods, the sound is still very unmistakably bryston, clean, dynamic, transparent, superb timing & with excellent bass.

The clock, capacitors & regulators mods on my bryston player have transformed what I deemed an excellent player into a truly exceptional player!

The very first track on my mod-listening was a latino guitar disc & it yielded a faster & more dynamically emotive experience. I hear more details

being fleshed out, & instruments separation was much more easily differentiated with guitar notes textures more realism.

This is probably because of the more quiet background noise".

It is 3am, & next I tried a popular Tsai Chin album, & was immediately & pleasantly surprised by the added vocal textures & realism. Soundstage depth was seemingly

similarly excellent, as my speakers are positioned pretty close to the walls, however overall soundstage does seems taller & wider with more focussed positioning of voicing.

The next thing that happened got me sat up & really shockingly suprised was the bass definition & slam I got from the track! The bass that came out was super taut, defined & has real bass slam!

My 3 pair of bookshelf speakers I tried-including my Ls3A was like given a new lease of life! I was pretty worried as I began to crank the volume up on my bookshelves, & as long as

the woofers were able to take it, it delivered beautiful deep, taut & bass with a real slam!

I must say that for the money, I'm pretty happy with the improved sound I got so far, & not having a differennt sound!(which I was initially worried)

Tonight will be dates with Dianna Krall & also some of my all time favourite country duo where it have all the vocals, drums, dynamics, & bass slams!(The Judds)

I will continue to run it in, & if it yield more improvements, I will update.

    Good morning bro!

I had a good listen over the weekend on my Consonance linear 120 CD Player. i realized that few cds that I am very familiar with sounded better! The Zee Avi, The Eagles live and a few other vocals CD, I do hear more details! Even the hand clapping in some live CD sounded different! Now, music sounded 'bigger'. So ya, excellent upgrade! Thanks man.

However the bass seems to have receded and gone missing. After a few days of playing, I am happy to say the bass has snapped back into place. It's not as prominent as last time but the bass sounds focused and doesn't draw attention to it. I am also marveling at how all e sonic details have shimmered down making listening to music such a pleasurable experience. The best $395 I have spent and it made me revisit all my music because everything sounds like a piece of brand new music.

    Customer Review:

    Dedicated Clock Power Supply

The Ultima Clock+dedicated Power Supply designed by me has been gathering a lot of good feedback in Singapore. It has compared very well with other DIY clock system overseas that cost much much more and yet to my surprise, does not include a dedicated power supply, or that the dedicated clock power supply will be extras. The dedicated Power supply, besides giving the clock module a lower noise PSU to operate, also isolates the digital noise of the clock module back into the system.

  15. Reviews 18/1/12.

Rave Review for Bryston CD Player!!

Terry, on his fully upgraded Bryston CD Player.

    Hi James,

Without changing any setting, the Burson clock along with the other mods on the analogue outputs (Pioneer LX71) far exceeded my expectations. The front and centre channels bring everything alive - mids, bass, details and everything else.

The first scene of The Fellowship of the Rings never felt so full, clear and

the background so eerie. Frankly speaking I have never look forward so much rushing back home to finish the movie and of course to re-watch the rest. The whole experience is like a completely new one!

I think there was an improvement in the PQ as well in the area of transition. But seriously the improvement in SQ far far exceeded that of the PQ.

Wow! And thanks for brining this to our awareness. Thanks!

By the way, before this, I'll always been skeptical of mods but this changed all that.

    Dear James,

    Good morning bro!

I had a good listen over the weekend on my Consonance linear 120 CD Player. i realized that few cds that I am very familiar with sounded better! The Zee Avi, The Eagles live and a few other vocals CD, I do hear more details! Even the hand clapping in some live CD sounded different! Now, music sounded 'bigger'. So ya, excellent upgrade! Thanks man.

    Dear James,

Had a closer listen thru my headphones through my upgraded EE Mini Max DAC. The background is now SUPER QUIET and everything sounds more transparent and detailed. For the first time I can hear coughs in the background of some of my live recordings from the audience and the sounds of clapping. Even the raindrops sounds more natural and prominent.

    Dear James,

I have a problem. I have to revisit all my favourite CDs again. So far after 50hrs break-in it is SO GOOD! I got what I'm looking for. The upper bass improvement (a weak point of my Marantz) is as what I expected. Thanks!
