  1. Looking for the above mention album. I tried looking at HMV,Sembawang,MJ,CD shop in Chinatown,Gramophone..but just can't find that album. If you know who is selling or have that album, please kindly email/pm me..I know now that CD album is already out of production and that CD is important to me ...

    Thanks in advance. :helpsmilie:

What songs are on it? The album sounds familiar, I might have it.

  2. I agree with your sentiments of the RS-1 over the GS 1000. I'm looking to buy the senns hd 650 myself. Purely because it's the most comfortable pair of headphones I've worn and the sound is pretty good to boot. Can't wait to get it at the end of the year. Will most likely hooking it up to my notebook + creative xmod + atl mghead headphone amp. (probably switch it around with my hifi for more critical listening)

Anyway I have to point out something, I've used the marantz cd 5400 and have tested the cd5001, I would have to say your source is seriously lacking. The difference I experienced when I switched to my NAD C542, from these two players was like night and day! I can only imagine how much better your phones will sound like with an even better source!

Hope I don't get flamed for that, just my opinion from personal experience. :)

On a side note, I've tried A LOT of players from $300 to $1.8k and it looks like if I want anything better for the music I listen to, I can forget about changing my nad unless I seriously invest a lot of dough. Any suggestions for cd players? Or heck maybe even a dac that I can hook up to my NAD?

  3. Get the nad c542. Lets just say I've had options to upgrade to cd players below $2000 and I'm still sticking to my nad. Excellent cd player. To me the difference from my previous cd player, the marantz cd5400 ( I used to love this budget player) and the nad c542 was night and day. I even preferred it to the rega. Maybe it's because of the type of music I listen to. I listen to a lot of rock and acoustic stuff. Blues as well. ( e.g. john mayer, 3 doors down, dishwalla )

  5. Far from as huge/expensive as the previous meet. Wonder where all the gurus went....

    Lots of portables.

    Mainly youngsters.

    Many headphones made appearance, including DT150, DT931, DT431, HD650, HD600, AKG K1000, K501, Sony 7506.

    Shop had DT860, 660.

Some A-Ts appeared as well but i don't quite remember what models as the sound of A-T has never caught my attention.

The only CDP which appeared was CD6000ose.

Amps, mainly portables: Emmeline SR-71, Xin Supermacro, MINT.

Tubes also appeared: Diva, Little Dot II, and the last one i cant remember what.

Needless to say, the star was K1000, which, unfortunately, no amp could drive it to sound good except a professional amp in the shop, which didnt quite have enough power. The bass of this cans was v impactful when driven out CD6000ose headphones out.

Damn, wish I had the chance to audition the DT150. no.gif

  6. I'm sorry but I'm quite confused here, this time round, there's no need to pay for the meet? Also I still can't confirm my attendance till tomorrow due to work schedule. Also anyone around boon lay area can give me a lift if I can make it? I don't have THAT much equipment, but what I do have is pretty heavy. :S

  7. Hi guys, I have spoken to Anything Audio, 4th Parklane Shopping Center, and they are receptive to my idea of holding our meet there. Although not lacking in power points, the only problem is tables and chairs which most likely we have to rent if those who are interested in the meet wish to set up their systems there for all to audition.

As such, I will need a show of hands from those who wish to attend and what are the choice dates. Since the shop is not open for business on Sunday, I suggest holding a meet on this day. If we have good attendance, most likely every participant has to pay a small fee for rental of furnitures. Another bit of good news is Anything Audio may offer some of its products at special prices to participants who wish to buy their stuff during the meet.

I'm sorry but where's parklane shopping center? I'm only aware of the location of parklane shopping mall.

Also how much do we have to pay this time round? smile.gif

  8. Hi Human Dragonbane,

I suggest you include details of the cable numbers as they all sound different and also catered for different functions. For instance, if one were to use a 75 ohm cable such as 19364 for interconnects, the sound quality will be dubious albeit ideal for digital audio/video transfer.

Unfornately It's been so long since I bought it, I don't recall the numbers of the cables sad2.gif However when I did get it done at the shop, they did recommend me the cable for my intended usage.....also to add on, one end of my cables is slightly loose and sometimes may require twisting for it to work so might need to get it reterminated.

  9. I don't know about the other two phones but I've tried the 325i and totally loved it. Personally I prefered the 325i over the rs1. The rs1 sounded kinda airy to me? Found the 325i to be more cleaner? IMHO of course. Hoping to get it after Hari Raya. :S

  10. Sorry for your loss.

Unlikely Huma. The warrenty starts from the purchase date of the original product. There's a slim chance they might repair it free of charge out of goodwill but technically they have no obligation as the warrenty has expired. They may waive service fee or somthing (ie you pay for parts). Talk to the service manager and be very polite. Eplain you are a poor student etc. ;-).

Hey dude, sorry for late reply. Was really busy. Anyway I called them up last monday and I just explained to them that mine was a replacement set so shouldn't I get a year warranty for it as well? They agreed and yup, product still under warranty! yay! totally made my day that day. Gonna send it in this coming monday.

  11. I think the transformer blew up, cause this morning when I came back to my room from breakfast I smelt this really funny smell...kinda like the smell when you're soldering stuff....The side of the player where the power cord was, was extremely HOT. And the origin of the smell was definetly from the player. I tried turning on the player...it still managed to turn on, disc stills spins, display is still on but there's no more sound. I quickly turned it off. sad2.gif

Anyway this was the replacement unit the distributer at marantz gave me. The original warranty ended a month ago. However the replacement unit is about 11 months old. Am I still covered? Also if I'm no longer covered, any idea how much the repairs are gonna cost? Or do you guys think I should get a new player? sad2.gif

Really hope to hear from ya guys soon. sad2.gif

  12. Ok.. back to more research.. lolz.. anyway, seriously, i would like my sound to be coloured, but if i go along the Marantz line, would the Grado be overly bright sounding? (With the Gilmore in between..)

It's so hard to come up with a suitable rig dry.gif .. haha.. anyway, thanks for your opinions laugh.gif

I'm using a marantz cd5400, mghead tube amp and grado sr60. sounds fine to me. wink.gif

  14. Better call first they tend to run out pretty quick. It's the best 1/8- to-1/4inch adapter.

Went by music by design today. Tried both headphones again, this time side by side. Don't know if it's the same rs-325i as I tried last time cause it's been a while. Anyway, with the discs I listen to I couldn't tell the difference in detail, both were on par. But I'm glad I auditioned them first. Seems the rs-1 is really not my type. It's quite airy, at least to me, and I pretty much didn't enjoy that. I find myself surprised that I prefered a headphone that's much cheaper. Even my gal found that the rs-325i was nicer to listen to. Can't wait to get my rs325i! Unfornately because of circumstances, I've to wait till year end. sad2.gif

Oh well better late than never. Thanks for all the help given so far guys. Really appreciate it.

  15. I would strongly suggest that between then 2 (Grado and Allesandro) you get the new Grado SR325i. The reason is at this price it would give you peace of mind in that:

    1) You will be able to audition it at Music By Design

    2) If somthing should go wrong that is covered by warrenty you simplily return the set to Music By Design

    3) Id somthing goes wrong after the warrenty period is over you still can get it fixed.

    4) Since Alesendro is manufactured by Grado the hose sound is similar, and since Grado themselves tweaked the original SR-325 to create the SR-325i I would say the issues with the original 325 have been corrected. I have listend to the new SR-325i and I must say it is an improvement over the original SR-325.

It's always better to be able to test drive somthing and make a purchase decision, buying blind or solely on another persons opinion is a risk I would not take.

Thanks Rams. What's your opinion of the 325i compared to the rs1 in terms of detail? Does the rs1 provide more detail? Obviously I would like to audition both but last time I went there they only had a new 325i for demo. So it wasn't quite a fair comparison.
