  1. Take a little time to read up on 'Balanced Impedance' in Wikipedia.com

You might have a better understanding on benefits of balanced headphones.

Milkpowder is right about minimal RF interference:

The balanced impedances to ground minimizes interference pickup. The conductors are sometimes twisted together to ensure that each conductor is equally exposed to any external magnetic fields that would induce unwanted noise. The line is capable of being operated in such a way that when the impedances of the two conductors at all transverse planes are equal in magnitude and opposite in polarity with respect to ground, the currents in the two conductors are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.

  2. For those who are interested to find out more about the Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5EB, I have quoted an abstract from HeadphoneHaven.

    Hi all,

In fact I have not touched my Super.Fi 5 EB until lately. About 5 days ago, i tried on my 5EB once again unamped. The sound was boomy and like Theory87 has said, the bass overlays to the trebles and highs.

I continued to use them for casual listenings at night (lullaby) over the next few days. It was 2 days ago when I discovered my Super.Fi 5 EBs seemed to changed its characteristics.

In the first moments, I thought my ears were playing tricks on me or it was the results or flaws when I ran the 5 EB unamped. However, I did not remember the Super.Fi 5 EBs to achieve the tamed characteristics as a Bassy Earphone.

So today when I met Ryner for lunch, I lent my 5 EBs for audition to check if he could tell the difference. He did noticed the change. I also shared the 5 EBs when I stepped into Jaben this afternoon with Theory_87 and mrhobbit to 'double-check' on their players and music. They turnt out the same.

    Notes for the readers;

The Super.Fi 5 EBs was not a burn-in to be achieved overnights. I actually attempted a period of burn-in over a few days and regular use of an hour or two a day. Be patient and enjoy throughout the process of the burn-in.

I estimate the total burn-in duration to be more than 150 hours with regular listening.

I would also advice users of 5EB to load high bitrate music for the best enjoyment.

    Have fun to all!

  3. This is my reply to Stereo Electronics's reply. It shall be my final opinion I will make from this issue.

Since the forum is clear and open for opinions as mentioned by Moderator, I shall address mine.

And if no one tells you, what makes you think that AKG K501 in some shops came from a local or foreign source?

However you said you would provide local warrenty from foreign MO goods. Local warrenty will means I will be able to send back to the local distribution centre for repairs or sorts (without charges within warrenty period).

IF you said you would provide warrenty covers over the MO products by your shop, so be it.

On another hand, you said you would do MOs when you're free. I rest my case here.

Westone is aware of someone posting a earmould which claims to be UM56 but not. As a Westone authorised dealer in Singapore I should do something. I suppose Wilson would have pointed out the same if he saw that post in the forum, don't you think?

I suppose another dealer would react differently to this situation.

    1. Inform Westone about possible 'imitations' (if you think they were)

    2. Sit and await reply. Not take charge of the situation yourself.

    3. There is nothing you can do as a competitive dealer. Westone will have an solution on addressing the issue if found to be an 'imitation'.

Everyone believes its a one-off earmould from some company, the issue here is that it was previously said to be a WESTONE UM56. ( No one seems to be reading this in)

The other forum has amended to Westone Customs. It has been claimed a One-Off from Westone, believe it or not, your choice. It's only courtesy to respect their word, whether or not anyone ever believes it.

Short term or long term promotions is for members' benefit, whether it spoils the market or not, I don't think you're in the position to comment unless you know how much are my cost, you mention under pricing but you didn't mention anything about over pricing, which is which and I wonder how you can tell them apart. I am a businessman not charity, I'm well aware of my profit and loss.

We can easily check the Recommended Retail Pricing (RRP) from the product's website. The fellow forumers have been posting the prices all around the forum. Any consumer will be able attain the pricing of a certain dealer by word of mouth from anyway. Anyone of us would be able to know which pricings are higher than the other. Lower prices have liability to gather more sales, especially in a regional forum. One retailer's sale have benefited from the attractive prices, other retailers have bitten the bullet with it. Retailers will start dropping the particular product one by one. Local distributor would not be happy if the retailer jeopardize the market.

My worries about over-pricing. As a consumer, if you find the pricing at a particular place is over-priced (pricing way up higher than Recommended Retail Pricing), don't buy from them! Simple.

If a lurker (with no intentions to become a member) who surfs along the forums, saw things that ought to be moderated or corrected will leave them a very bad impression. It will only reflect on the style in the forum. However, if they liked it that way, so be it.

That should sum up everything as well

  4. No offence to Jaben here, but when Jaben was offering special promotions or special discounts for SGHP members everyone was simply raving about the low prices. I see most members claiming that they got a sweet deal from Jaben and very satisfied with it, and that happened when there were 2 dealers ard in this forum. Then is that a case of undercutting the other dealer?

When one dealer got banned the other dealer tried to provide us with the same low prices that consumers want. In addition he made a point about a supposedly UM56 which turned out otherwise. Instead of raving about it, his intent and business ethics was questioned. I see many people viewing all these negatively, which is rather bad for this hobby. I guess the only thing SE can do to please people is to raise his prices and keep everything to himself, even when consumers are unknowingly paying for something else.

Rather than trying to pinpoint on what this thread is all about, which is the UM56, and trying to get the truth from what or why this actually happened, most people are bashing SE instead. I see no one discussing about the so called UM56 and their source. It's easy for everyone to judge why this happened.

The question is : Are the Dealers allowed to do Mass Orders? Can they claim local warrenty from imported units, by passing the local distributor company?

If you agree in this way of business ethics, very well you go.

If you want the truth of the UM56 from Jaben, why will it have to come from Stereo Electronics? Why Westones did not address the issue themselves? Only Westone themselves is fit to address the issue.

So what is a method used in this issue between produce from the 2 Dealers? I call this unhealthy competition displayed by one.

Another question is : Are we bashing Stereo Electronics for this issue and what makes you think so? If so, who else was attacked too?

If you do not believe in a ONE-OFF produce by reputatable audio companies, it's fine with me. Do not name them fake or imitations.

Now look on the other side, Jaben offered short-term promotions, not the long term dealer's price to spoil the market.

Once again, "There is a REPORT button at the bottom of every post, so use that if you need to. All the mods are also just a PM away". We have noticed the use of the Report button, however we may lose count of how many times we need to hit that button.

  5. I think a few things are clear.

For the record, the member with the customs in question has posted a clarification in the abovementioned forum, as pointed out by jdimitri. I think we need to recognise that this is (supposedly) a once-off affair, and apparently all customs after this one provided by Jaben were official UM56's. Still, our members are encouraged to verify the authenticity of all products before purchase, be it at any dealer.

More importantly, the confusion arose because the said member posted that the customs were UM56's along with the pictures. This IS misleading by all accounts. No one said they were poor in quality or performance, just that there was misrepresentation which deserves clarification, which was provided by SE (Aron), and later said member. The misrepresentation is the problem.

Your point is noted but however the announcments still deem as 'imitations'. There will be another confusion eventually. Please clarify us again.

  6. Did someone said FAKE UM56? Didn't you read properly what was the custom earmold about?

For your information, Jaben IS NOT 'not-certified' to make Ear Impressions. If you want to know, find it yourself if he's certified. It also takes an experience hand to do ear impressions properly. Like some have mentioned before, Ear Impression IS NOT rocket science. Just how bad can they fail. Inexperience surgeons have higher failure rate.

And for your information again, an Impression kit can be bought off any medical stores in the states. You may make your ear impressions at home if the nearest specialist store is too far from your place. Get your earmolds done from Audiologist if you need hearing aid.

The $199 was a package which includes the Earmolds, Ear Impression and a through and fro shipping service.

However if you're still paranoid of what you are getting, send your 'fake um56' to Westones to have them verified.

Please do note that Westones have strict pricing for their products, if cheaper is better, think again!

  7. tok2mi, I think you should slip the cable into the shirt if you want to wear it from behind. In this way, your chances of cable being hooked by something is lessen. It will be the same for all IEMs.

Personally I feel safer to wear the Super.fi on the front than the back unless you're using it for performance practices.

Regarding the article in headfi, the thread starter said that the microphonics was horrible? Personally, I couldn't experience any. I think Nsjong is right about thicker cable have lesser chances of picking up noises.

  10. Hi,

If you're interested in IEMs, you might want to look at Super.fi 5EB. However, some said it has overpowered bass tones. Personally, the problem could be solved with the correct pairing of interconnect and portable amplifier.

You might also wish to look on Super.fi 5 Pro & UM2 for their defined bass tones and mids and high sections.

I have not heard the AKG K81DJ, but i personally liked K26P.

  11. LOL. That might be true. Just wondering if I should get the line out shown here or Qsilver's with IC. I'll have to hear them right? :)

    Qsilver's iPod Line-out Dock + Interconnect or;

    iPod Line-out Dock

That really depends on your probablity of moving around different set-ups (Apple, Creative, iAudio etc etc). :))

Like ahdui has said, you might be happier after getting 1 for yourself. :D I shall say no more than this.

  12. I think it was never really meant for mainstream community, it was meant to them to admire and drool all over. Haha!

The mainstream still agrees on iBuds, what else can we do really? Haha!!

There are people who appreciates them. Only these people will understand the wonders in the audiophile world.

  13. If Sennheiser would to produce unlimited amounts of Orpheus, how many "King of Headphones" will there be in the world? :bash:

300 Kings have made themselves all over the world for their priceless and quality product Sennheiser can offer. It is indeed a treasure! It's the only 1 of the 2 electrostatic headphones in the line of Sennheiser's history.
