  1. Thanks, I realise that the T610 is probably the best option, but just wanted to see what other contenders there are, hence my post. T630 out of budget, sigh...
  2. Not particularly familiar with the current crop of mobiles out there. Looking to upgrade from my 2 yr old SonyEricsson T68i. Love some features of SE phones, but sometimes the ergonomics sucks. Are there phones that match these requirements? The best I can come up with is the T610, but it also has its downsides like dark screen in sunlight and slow menus. 1. Non-clamshell design 2. Picture phone book - e.g. photo of caller shows up in addition to phone number 3. SMS dictionary must be able to add new words (Very important!) 4. Multiple phone numbers to a name in the phone book 5. Camera 6. 65K colours, good ringtone quality 7. Reasonable battery life 8. Data cable included would be nice 9. FM radio would be nice but not essential Unnecessary/non-essential features 1. MMS 2. Java 3. Bluetooth 4. Chinese input 5. WAP 6. PDA capabilities
  3. Which Emi Fujita CD is that? I almost bought one last weekend but went for audiophile voices and Jane Monheit instead.
  4. Hey, I also encountered this crackling and distortion in some parts of the music for certain tracks in another CD - "Audiophile Voices II". I always thought that the problem was with my lousy system and not the cd itself. Like Mackie said, the distortion only comes in when music hits a climax or is very complex at certain parts of the song. However, it is much less pronounced coming from speakers. Man, I was under the impression that all I needed to do was get a good headamp and this problem would disappear!
  5. http://www.echoloft.com/cgi-bin/buysell/Ya...&num=1078681079 $600 for a 1mth old unit. Sounds like a good deal.
  6. Since we have a sticky for headphone prices, why not one for amps as well? I for one would find it very useful since I'm shopping around for a headamp. It would also help enlighten us newbies which amps are available locally, who are the dealers, and which amps we have to get online. Thanks Rameish for your input! --------Rameish---------------------- Grado RA-1 (S$630) Nett Creek OBH-21 (S$600 + approx) - Hung Bros Creek OBH21 SE (S$700 +) - Hung Bros Spark Audio's Cayin HA-1A (S$650) + GST - Precision Audio at Adelphi Musical Fidelity X-Cans V3 (S$630 - S$720 - dependent on you bargaining skills)
  7. Off topic a little, what are the headphone amps selling in Singapore within the $600 price bracket?
  8. Anyway the guy doesn't accept auditions, so no way am I gonna buy from him.
  9. Interesting...how much would the MF Xcans cost brand new? Is this a good buy?
  10. Latest update on the situation. Called up Precision Audio again, the guy said that SparkAudio is only shipping out the Cayin from China next week. So can expect stock to arrive the week after that.

    Chinese Pop

Last time I listened to chinese pop was my NS days, back in 93-94. Jacky Cheung and Faye Wong is all I can remember. Come to think of it, it was more cantopop than chinese pop.
  12. Dunno if you guys are familiar with the chinese TV magazine called "I Weekly". This week's cover has a girl wearing a big set of cans. Anyone can ID the girl and the cans?
  13. What would be a good pair of cans to complement my current set of DT931? Meaning that it will cover the weaknesses of the 931s. Open or Closed doesn't really matter. I'm also probably getting the Cayin headamp so ideally these cans should have some synergy with this amp.
  14. Maybe the mods can make this a sticky? http://www.kiwirant.com/article14.html
  15. Sometimes I hear this crackling sound coming from the headphones. If memory serves its more prominent in the lower ranges. Is it because the cans do not have the dynamic range to reproduce bass that low? Or is it the fault of the amp? Or just a crappy recording or source?
  16. I feel that the DT931 suffers when it comes to rock or agressive pop. It sounds jarring, and noisy. But with acoustic instruments and classical music I don't get that effect, even when the entire orchestra is blaring away. Then again, you have to keep in mind that I'm not using a headphone amp, just a regular home theatre After listening on the cans I really miss the detail when I go back to speakers. The advantage is that speakers don't sound so up-front and close, sometimes the cans do feel a bit claustrophobic.
  17. I just came across mp3s of a Jazz acapella group called Singers Unlimited. Their vocal arrangements are really one of a kind, and the songs are old standards ranging from the 50s to 80s.
  18. You mean the Big Ben amp? Who might this owner be, Firefox?
  19. Wow! Listening to a recording of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 just now and I was amazed to hear small coughs and paper rustling in the background. Never heard them before on this recording. Very solid pair of cans, especially with Classical Music. Now just waiting to buy a good headamp to pair it up with.
  20. There was a young short guy who was very friendly to me. The young tall one was bochap and the moustache guy also a bit rude. Last time I wanted to demo the creek amp he insisted that I bring my own headphones. I told him clearly there is a DT931 right there, same as what I have, just let me demo that. He refused.
  21. Other than Gramaphone, anywhere else in Singapore where I might find this CD? thanks!
  22. Did you partition and format the 30gb drive using Winxp Disk Management? Try it if you haven't. If have and still got problem, then you're out of luck. Do you use a thumbdrive or card reader in your system? Any problems before? The reason I ask is because I also experienced your problem on my system. It simply couldn't work with USB based mass storage devices. Can detect but doesn't appear in windows explorer. I only managed to solve the problem by formatting and reinstalling a clean winxp.
  23. I can verify the price. They also told me that normal retail price of the 650 is around $800+. And first ten units selling at around $700 I think. HD600 they mentioned that selling at $450.
  24. Check out www.chesky.com CD catalogue. They have a few test discs on sale. A guy brought one to my house once to audition my speakers, that's how I know about them. Think I might have seen them on sale at Gramaphone before also.
