    Hi all.

     

    Selling off my Grados SR80. Burned in, sponges and headband all still in good condition. Box and warranty still intact and available.

     

    Selling off cos' rarely use headphones now at home, and want to get a pair of cans that I can use on the go with my iPod.

    went down to Sim Lim 3rd level Hung Bro shop today. They didn't have the 414's sponge. actually, they didn't have ANY sponge for any headphone except for one really flimsy looking S$2.50 sponge. obviously it didn't look like it'd fit my grados.

     

    SO I guess next stop is sennheiser asia liao.. but the 414 is a really old pair of headphones (so says the Hung Bro shop guy). Donno can find a not?

     

    Any other shops where I'd be able to find replacement headphone sponge? maybe some other model can fit also? not just the 414?

     

    Anyone?

    Although, the bass is not as strong as I've heard it at Music By Design. prob cos' they played it out of an amp there, so sound stronger bass.

     

    But everything else it definately sounds better than my Sony earphones. I'm hearing details I haven't heard before in some songs e.g. scratching of guitar strings, singer inhaling etc. heh..

     

    1 complaint though are the insides of the headphones; rough, my right year very tender after wearing for long periods. Replacing the sponge should do the trick though.

     

    Tell me more about how to describe the mids lows to you, with what music best to describe, and I'll do my best smile.gif

    I've used the GR80s for quite a stretch right now.

     

    The sponge pads are fine. But what I find uncomfortable are the insides.

     

    There is this wire mesh of sorts covering the innards that is quite rough. after wearing for long periods, the tips of my ears are really sore from abrasion!

     

    Anyone got any solution, maybe some thin foam pad or something?

    Hi all.

     

    Newbie question, so your uptmost patience please.

     

    My girlfriend told me she had some old records from her childhood that she wanted to play.

     

    So I thought of getting her a turntable as a gift.

     

    Neither of us are audiophiles. All I'm looking for is a normal set.

     

    Preference: something small that doesn't take up much space, and something cheap.

     

    where can I find such a turntable? and what is the price range? 2nd hand ones are fine too.

    N@Z: I'm no audiophile. right now as I'm burning them in at "just below comfort" volume, I can't quite hear the "GRADO difference". maybe after tomorrow when I raise the volume, I can hear the difference smile.gif

     

     

    As I was walking around Adelphi, I saw all those elaborate setups with all sorts of transistors, vaccums etc. on top of black boxes. I wonder what in the world they are. Maybe someday when I get to know a audiophile personally I can ask him smile.gif

    Hi all.

     

    Thank you so much for your responses and advice.

     

    I went on down to Music by Design today and got myself a pair of Grado SR80s. The difference in bass between the SR60 and SR80 was quite apparent. the SR60's bass felt "weak", undefined. Plus, I couldn't stand the pads of the SR60. SR80's pads were so much better.

     

    First impressions: wow, damn light pair of headphones. And the 1950's style is kinda appealing in a way.

     

    I'm breaking them in now as Rameish advised. Just set it to play my entire iTunes library, at just below comfort volume.

     

    I wonder how different it would sound after breaking in?

    I'll probably go on down to Adelphi tomorrow afternoon. It's my first time there to look for headphones, and my first serious pair.

     

    Where else besides Music by Design sell Grado headphones?

     

    And specifically at which friendly shops can I find some of the other brands like Sennheiser, Beyer, Ultrasone etc?

     

    Which shops do you recommend?

    after a lot of reading online and at this forum, I may very well choose to get the Grado SR80.

     

    Question is: I've read a lot about breaking in your headphones. I have never heard of anything like this before, I never knew you had to "warm up" your headphones before they sound good.

     

    Can anyone describe procedure + type of music required? and must it really be done for 30hrs??

     

    What volume should I do it at?

     

    Should I turn off all equalizer settings to do break in? or should I vary the equalizer settings e.g. Jazz, Classical, Rock, Dance.

     

    And what if we don't break in our headphones at all?

     

    Must breaking in be done right from the start (otherwise your headphones are pretty much screwed for life) or can it be done at any point in time?

     

    Oh, and is it possible to OVER break in your headphones such that they break down? heh..

    So what what other headphones do Music By Design carry?

     

    and if I want to change the pads to the bowl types, how much do the grado bowl pads cost?

     

    I hope they have demo grados to test out with my ipod. Are they anal when it comes to testing out headphones?

     

    If the SR80 really do sound leagues better, I may very well shell out the S$50 bucks more and get the SR80.

    I'm looking for a pair of headphones to use with my Mac 12"pb + iPod. i've detailed my usage criteria here:

    ADditionally I've read online about grado's SR60. reviews were good. Plus, I have a thing for things that are "wolves in sheep's clothing" i.e. they don't look it, but they pack a punch smile.gif

     

    So my question is: where can I test out a pair of grados?

     

    Pref, the same shop will also have otehr headphones to test and compare e.g. sennheiser, sony etc.

     

    Does Sim Lim 3rd floor shop have grado? I know they have sennheisers for sure.

     

    Advice please?

    music i listen to:

    - pop english chinese

    - jazz

    - rock

    - house music

     

    Dance and house music I listen to once in a while only. same for rock. I don't know if that's the kind of info you need when you said "what type of music", but if you meant otherwise, let me know.

     

    I'm using a 12" Powerbook smile.gif I think I may bring along my iPod and test it at the Sim Lim Square 3rd floor audio shop with the headphones you suggested before deciding.

     

    Any more suggestions? how come no sennheiser suggestions? are they bad?
