The proof is in the listening, specs alone cannot tell the whole story.
  2. Hi Aaron Here's another version of Bach's Goldberg Variations I think you should grab: MA Recordings Catalog Number: M024A Very good recording of a wonderful alternative performance of this great piece. The piano is a specially tuned Steinway D concert grand (circa 1903) by the performer's husband! The piano is specially tuned for Baroque music, listen for it, it sounds harphischord-like. Highly recommended!!!
  3. Wow! He carries Lavry now? That's interesting, I suppose I should pay him a visit.
  4. My choice in that price range would have been a Denon 2930 universal player - a serious piece of gear at a relatively "budget" price. BTW, there's an excellent set of articles in the Sep issue of TAS regarding CD playback. A very interesting read.
  5. The website is just an intro for the uninitiated. What I find useful is the Diva Book. The headamp is available at Jaben and it is within your budget. I have the Diva + MS Pro/AKG501/AT W100, DT990, pick one, all sound good, but my favourite is the ATW100. The DT990 combo is also very good match. FYI the Diva was designed with the AKG501, so driving that (difficult to drive) can is not a problem. In the design of the Diva, I asked Lim to specifically design it to drive both low impedence and high impedence cans. I think he has succeeded wonderfully.
  6. The product that started a revolution in power regeneration. Clean up the power supply for your source equipment and hear instant improvement in low level detail. Reviews: http://stereophile.com/powerlineaccessories/181/ Clearing at $850 firm. SOLD.
  7. Latest update: Got a new amp : Sanders ESL stereo poweramp Using the Denon A11 as the main digital source with Feet of Silence below Overall the system has been transformed!
  8. You have got to listen to both the Pink Martini CDs, really good jazz!
  9. If you are so concerned about the thread, then answer the question and recommend a headphone. By neighbours, I meant to include people in the next room.
  10. Do you own a piano and have you ever tried practicing at night?
  11. Since you are using the piano with headphones, the object is to not disturb the neighbours while practicing. You should consider one of the closed cans, which puts Grado out. You can look at Audio Technica range.
  12. You can look at the Denon 2930, its very good. Anything below $1k I would consider entry level.
  13. JPS Superconductor FX 1.5m x2 sets $580/set new, selling at $380. View at New Disc Village. Denon DL103R NIB $430. call 91179557
  14. Monitor Audio produce some pretty decent speakers. If you are getting a bookshelf, you have to also add the cost of the stand. So you should also consider floor standers around the bookshelf + $200 range.
  15. I'm not that crazy a beatles fan, just wanted to listen to some of their music to see what its like. Nagaoka are not ricepaper type, they are plastic sleeves. Some don't like them, but I've not had any problems with them so far, my preferred sleeve. Parents say that cos they are footing the bill you know. Actually I kind of advocate a balanced approach. Study hard, but play as well, just know where the boundary lies. Though I think Aussies play too much, but compared to SG, they have a more balanced lifestyle.
  16. Aaron, how many LPs do you have to clean? If its a handfull, I can clean them for you, quality assured. Plastic sleeves get Nagaoka from NDV, they are from Japan. Mofi sleeve not sure, but they won't be cheap, again check with NDV, agent for Mofi. Is that your gal in the siggy?
  17. Union That is one extensive collection of cans! What do you use for amps?
  18. How does the PS1 sound compared to the other grados?

    PA2V2!

Do upgrade the mini-mini cable, it makes a big difference to the sound. Jaben sells some cables which you could try.
  20. Pretty good. Good separation, resolution of low level details, good bass. Also due to the good isolation, low level resolution is outstanding.
  21. There's this one AT can which is pretty good, I was impressed so that I got one. Its the ATH ES7. Mine came with a mirror surface on the back of the drivers. They are closed and therefore provide good isolation. They can be folded flat and fit into a small provided pouch.
