  1. Hi Tristram, I found the non-battery model less harsh/rough sounding than the battery model, especially with more repeated listenings with the DT880s when I was auditioning the cans. And to me, as I dislike too much simbilance in my music, it reinforced my decision to get the non-batt iCute amp. So far, this iCute and DT880s combo sounds great, together with the Cambrigde Audio 640c player I have. And because the amp is stationary at one corner in my room, the portability issue doesn't bother me too much (plus, it's multi voltage so you can bring it with you when you travel). You can also try the meier amps as a comparison.. but note the price difference. Good luck with your choice of amp!
  2. Hi guys, Thanks for all your advice and feedback. I have bought the DT880s with the iCute (non-battery model). Now it's plugged in to my Marantz CD17mk3 cd player and it sounds great! Thanks to all of you again.
  3. Hello, Great to know you too! Haha. Now need to test out my pcdp. My purchase sounds great on my Marantz CDP. Really enjoying my purchase.
  4. Haha thanks. I would definitely give the DT880s a spin when I decide to make the purchase. Thought I was the only one as people generally found the DT990s to be better.
  5. Hmm.. I don't know. When I heard my jazz vocal tracks, felt that the DT880s just sounded better. Maybe I used the wrong terminology of openess, but I remembered that the Diana Krall (Live in Paris) CD sounded really like I was there live in the concert. But my memory might not serve me well since I have last listened to it in about 2 weeks ago. Going to audition again soon. haha I'm surprised as DT990 is an open back design whilst DT880 being semi-open. If closed design has the most narrow soundstage, then DT990 should sound more open than DT880. If the reverse finding is true, perhaps the run-in condition/system used is a factor.
  6. Actually I tried the DT990 last time and found the sound a little too sharp for my liking. The DT880s had a wider soundstage which is quite nice actually. Talking about the DT880s, are there any places selling the pre-2006 models? What is the diff between the pre-2006 and 2006 model? I would choose the DT990 over the DT880 also
  7. Hey guys! Thanks for the recommendations. I have decided to get the iCute amp because it is dual voltage and I'm going to the US. For the cans, I will audition the cans mentioned and then make a decision on which cans to buy. The HD595s still appeal to me so far, but I will test the others before making a final judgement. Thanks again! How we all wish that is the case.

Very cool effects. Maybe this can be the next dolby test music before a movie starts in a cinema? Haha.
  9. Thanks. I will really seriously consider the iCute amp. Now, the headphones. haha I second Top-Gun's opinion on iCute. It is quite versatile and battery operated with two 9-volt batteries is a plus. It can be charged directly w/o opening the assembly. I can't comment on your choice of cans as I did not try them. Sorry.
  10. Hmm.. So their sonic signature for their cans are on the bright side? Coz I have a AT-EW9 and an CM7 and they have this slightly warmish sound that is unlike the AD900s that I have heard. But I remembered that I burned in my EW9s for a long time before the sound was tamed. If the AT cans are really on the bright side even after burn in than I would have to consider the other 2.
  11. Hi! Actually, my budget is about $600 for both the amp and the headphones. $700 is the max. No more than that. Actually I have visited both Stereo electronics and Uncle Wilson. I have to visit Jaben one more time to really test the Beyers, and then go to Stereo again to test the HD595s and the AT-ADH900s. Only then I can really compare these cans. And as the headphones were not really burned in yet, would like to seek opinions so that when I test these headgear again, I can take note of some pointers from fellow forummers who really have these gear burned in.
  12. Hi Fellow forummers, this is one of my first few posts! haha. I am looking for a headphone and amp combo to replace my bulky speakers, so that I can bring my hifi experience wherever I go. After auditioning some cans, I have narrowed down my choices to the Audio Technica AD900s, the Sennheiser HD595s, and the Beyer DT880. Just wanna ask if any of you have experience with these headphones? I'm an AT fan but the AT AD900s was a little too harsh on the highs for me, but maybe coz it wasn't burned in yet. The HD595s sounded great to me, because the sound was easy on the ears and somehow more refined, without the piercing highs. But from what I have heard it can get boring once I am used to it. I forgot how the Beyers exactly sounded like, as I heard them 3 weeks ago, but it did leave me a rather good impression because of the wide soundstage. For my amp, I am thinking of the iCute or the AT-HA20, because both have dual voltage adapters. I listen to mainly jazz vocals, pop and classical piano and violin, and would prefer a neutral sound with a slight emphasis to the midrange. Hope I can get some help here! haha
  13. Hi to all, I was just wondering if anyone has had a work around to buy music from the iTunes music store in the USA? I find a whole lot of exclusives there that I want to buy but can't.. haha Thanks
  14. I just bought a new iPod.. filled with 1736 songs.. mostly encoded with EAC & LAME. Can recommend me a good sounding earphone (preferably gd looking ) to go with my iPod? My budget about $200. I'm currently using the E-888s. Thanks
