Help on Hearing Loss!

Recommended Posts

Recently, I find that I have problems to hear what the lecturers said especially when the lectures are conducted in a lecture theatre. Sometimes, I also experienced ear pain. I’m not sure whether is this caused by constantly listening to mp3. I listen to Mp3 most of the time. I’m so worried that I will lose my hearing ability, any recommendation what should I do now?

isn't it more of the volume you listen at rather than the quality of the files? Unless your ears are shutting off cos mp3s don't sound all so hot...

If you need a ear check and a hearing test, just PM me...

Maybe it's a big blob of earwax just waiting to be sucked out :)

Yes MP3 does give me ear ache as well - of a different kind LOL. You may have excessive ear wax (best case). Go to your GP and let him/her take a look. The doc will probably give you ear drops for a week and ask you to come back for a ear rinse to take a better look again. If need be he/she will refer you to an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) specialist. Don't wait!

I know for a fact that listening to MP3 over extended period of time at high volume can degrade your hearing. I would suggest that you see an audiologist for a hearing test to determine the degree of hearing loss if any. The audiologist can then advise whether you need a hearing aid and recommend one that is suitable for your need. Regarding the pain in your ear he should also be able to advise you further on that.

Recently I tested an FM systems (Bellman Domino) for Hearing Solution and was impressed by it effectiveness. It consists of two units. One is the transmitter and the other the receiver. As an example of its effectiveness I will quote an example. The transmitter was with my wife and she was inside Hearing Solution Office behind closed door. I was a distance away outside the office facing the main road. She teasingly called me "Grumpy Old Man" and I heard her loud and clear. I asked her whether she shouted or talked normally and she said normally.

In the eventuality that you do not need a hearing aid you can still use this device as it comes with a pair of in-ear earplugs. Perhaps this device would be able to assist you to hear better in the lecture room.

Hi Chakoking,

Where is hearing solution? Is the consultation charge very expensive like those at Mt E?

Hi Rainbowhamster

Here is the address: The Hearing Solution Company Pte. Lte.

76 Bras Basah Road #01-01

Singapore 189558

Tel: (65)63370090

The charges will definitely be no where near as expensive as Mt E. Comparing the prices of the hearing aids here and that of other companies that I had been to it is comparable. Moreover the staffs there are very friendly, cheerful, helpful and very service orientated. Those dispensing hearing devices are all qualified Audiologists. You can therefore rest assured that you are in good hands. I should know as I had just obtained a hearing aid from there. They also let me try out the device I mentioned in my earlier posting without obligation. I was thus able to suggest the possibility that it might be useful to you based on my personal experience. Though I did not purchase the set it does give me an option should my current hearing aid proved to be inadequate for my need.

May I suggest, if you are still hesitant, to give them a call and check them out. I am confident you will prove me right about them.

Why is that so that it will do more damage to the ears?
