Tenson 0 Report post Posted October 6, 2003 Check out the Terratec AudioSystem DMX 6fire 24/96 Creative Labs SoundBlaster Audigy 1 or 2 Platinum - just for listening the 1 should be okay, but the 2 has more tricks. I wouldn't think any sound card can rival that of a dedicated headphone amp until you get into the professional arena. Good Luck!

ablaze 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 I would recommend the M-audio Revo for something value for money. the audigy series' not ideal cos they resample everything to 48khz (including 44.1khz audio cds) and their resampling algorithm's questionable at best. if you have to, use foobar2000's internal resampler to resample to 48khz before playing thru the audigy. other than the Revo, other good sound cards would be in the pro-audio range: a few notable favourites for 2-channel analog audio: DAL Carddeluxe RME Digi96/8 PST/PAD/PRO RME 9632 Lynx 1 or 2 or L22 (lynx two being arguably the BEST sound card out there) the cheapest in this range would cost 2-3X the cost of the Revo

Q00 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 if im correct, the terratec uses the same chip as the revo..
gryphon1972 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 you can try this www.sinamex.com.sg.....if you are getting from them...remember to bargain
Tenson 0 Report post Posted October 8, 2003 (edited) I think you are right Q00, however the Terratec 6fire has the front bay thing So there is more connectivity and you do not need to go round the back of the comp to plug in the headphones! But ultimatly I like this Hehehee.... Edited October 8, 2003 by Tenson
ablaze 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2003 if im correct, the terratec uses the same chip as the revo.. the terratec uses the same DSP chip I think. BUT the DACs and ADCs differ, so no, they're not exactly the same. oh yeah, the new m-audio Firewire 410's supposed to be not bad too I think.

lekguan 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2003 Sorry to hijack this thread, but for USB soundcards, what are the top-of-the-line ones?
Tenson 0 Report post Posted October 9, 2003 gryphon1972, yea it is a pro recording card. However it still sounds allot better than a standard card. The clock is low jitter and has decent output connecters etc..
