lbbef 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2012 Hi! I'm considering to get a new headphone to replace my Audio Technica ATH-ES55 which I bought in Sept 2010. I'm considering the: ATH-A900X/ATH-A700X (Read that many recommend the A700X to the A900X) ESW9 ES700 (When it releases) If I buy used headphones I could get ES10 and maybe the W1000X. I listen to a variety of music. I'd be using it for portable use, but I'm not worried about the size/weight, I'm ok as long as it has good isolation and sounds good in both noisy (especially in the train) and quiet environment. Any suggestions or recommendations? My budget around $400. Thanks in advance
Bill 0 Report post Posted October 24, 2012 (edited) I dont buy used equip. espicially something that attaches to your body, but that is just me. I would say look at sealed units with good isolation figures from Senn,AT,AKG that are low imp. so they work on portable gear and spend as much as you can... nekatrall 0 Report post Posted October 25, 2012 i would wait until esw11 comes out n see if ppl are unloading the previous models bt considering them being headphones an amp would push them to the potential and from the looks of it their ability to block out noise esp on trains are not that gd i personally have a es7 modified and run it via the o2 amp to make it sound even better most definitely the babies ur looking at sound very different from es55 i think u should try the synergy with your gear ATH-A900X/ATH-A700X not meant to be portable, need to take care properly( may break) and more for monitoring esw9 and es10 would be a better choice
cirdec 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2012 if you can get to audition a pair c jays, you might like the sound signature. I personally feel that its better than MS1i or Grado SR80. I mean for that price point, its one of the better sounding portable headphones.
dalethorn 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2012 i would wait until esw11 comes out n see if ppl are unloading the previous models I really want a ESW11, but so far the special edition is approximately $800 USD. So if anyone knows how I can get a genuine ESW11 for less than $500 USD I want it now. 53 mm drivers, it will be amazing, I'm sure.

dalethorn 0 Report post Posted February 27, 2013 I bought the ESW11-Ltd a month ago, and it is my favorite in spite of very recessed treble. But the price is way too high, especially for such low fidelity. I'm very surprised that such a sound as this could be made in Japan, especially when the $200 USD ESW9a sounds so much better.
