Hey... I live the US. If anyone has a CD that can't be obtained locally but that is more readily available in the States, he/she can give me a holler. I'll see if I can get it for that person. No extra charge.

Don't wait long, I would be moving in 3 or 4 months. happy.gif

I liked "Afterglow" and "Surfacing" quite a bit. But after hearing folks' comments, I have to check out the live sessions.

Last night I listened to Afterglow 3 times in a row. It's actually quite good. More commercial & polished of course but still no less entertaining. The multi-layered production is mesmerising. The only thing I don't like about it is that there is only 10 songs. 'Fallen' is a great song. 'Answer' reminds me of Enya the way the piano is played. This album makes me appreciate the piano even more. It sounds so full bodied. The transient & decay is amazing. I am now officially a BIG SMcL fan. She can do no wrong by me! Even the song she did for Toy Story II 'When she loved me' is supoib! So much emotion in the song.

I have the Mirrorball Concert DVD. The set is actually quite good. And although its a concert, it has the intimate feeling. Her live performance is superb of course. But after going to several live concerts, i was not really expecting this tho... tot it would be high octane and adrenaline flowing... Anyway if anyone is interested in borrowing it, just pm me.

Just my personal opinion, hope no flaming hehe... I actually started listening to her after looking at this thread and frankly, i feel she is slightly over-rated. I feel her strength lies at tugging people's heart strings and she kind of specialises in sappy sad love songs, mostly about breakups and the sorts. Then again ballads are big locally of coz. Compared to Dido who kinda sings like her, I feel she is slighly more mainstream. But both sucks the life out of me, they make me go ssslllooowww. As I m in a rather good mood most of the time, her sad songs sound like a persistent whining.. makes me wanna shout "Get a life!" I just can't relate to her songs. On a brighter note, she has a powerful voice and her live performance is outstanding.

To the contrary, I find that there are deeper meanings in her songs as compared to regular pop "girl likes boy" or "boy dumps girl" songs. While I'm not that religious, I do find her songs to have strong religious (Christian) sub-meanings. kinda like U2 but with less explicit biblical references.

Oddly enough, I don't listen to the lyrics. I tend to listen to the vocals & melody more. Which is probably why I don't remember the lyrics (& song title even!), I just tend to hum the song.

I don't think she is overrated though, I get like that when I really like something that much. As with everything else in life, it's all down to personal preferences.

tidbit from the kcrw interview, she composed most of the songs from Fallen on piano, whilst her older songs are more a mix of guitar and piano. hey for SM fans, you gotta check out www.kcrw.com

Portishead, live in NYC.

Beth Gibbons has an amazing voice. The recording is pretty good too.
