Can anyone who has a copy of this CD elaborate on this album? I'm thinking of increasing my singular collection of SMcL. I'd much prefer if it is along the same lines as the Freedom Sessions if not vaguely close!

it sounds nothing like the 'freedom sessions'

don't know the right terms for it, but afterglow has too much of a 'processed' sound to me. i too, prefer the acoustic, "raw" sound of her live albums!

but some songs are good though

I like "Fallen" especially yes.gif

Any of her other albums has that acoustic or back to basics sound/feel to it?

personally didn't really like her new album.

I feel it's more like a "download from the net" album as opposed to "I need to own it"

Freedom sessons rock.

Along those lines, I would also recommend.

Cowboy Junkies - Trinity Sessions

and

Dave's True Story - Sex without Bodies

Both were recorded in churches with no overdubs

DTS is on the chesky label. fantastic recording, beautiful music.

I would label it under the jazz genre, but all original songs(not repeated 'standards')

I don't like afterglow also. sleep.gif The "alluring" element isn't there. Personally likes fumbling towards ecstasy follows by surfacing.

Thanks for the comments & suggestions guys. Will look into them. I've got Trinity sessions already. Freedom session is one of my favourite CD next to BVSC!

Chanced upon the Surfacing CD. Very nice, it's close to Freedom Sessions but not as intimate. She sure has a lovely & unique voice.

I think Sarah Mclachlan is one of those rare singers where I actually find the live albums are so much more nicer than those recorded in the studio. The live version of her songs sounds so much more alive compared to the original version, more emotions and feeling.

My current fave are:

Mirrorball

Surfacing

Fumbling towards estacy

Haven't got a chance to hear Freedom Sessions, but I think it should be just as good as Mirrorball since its recorded live.

This was actually recorded in the garage of the timmons family, using a brand new omnidirectional mic. Just 1 mic, no overdubs. very very cool sounds.
