Rameish 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 A bit more info like model number and where your dad bought it would help. Often there's an OEM version. I'm assuming it's a china made amp??? (No disrespect meant btw).
Rameish 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 Sorry I guess the model is SV-231 right (I had assumed it's a tube amp based on that tube).
Rameish 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 (edited) Dont rely too much on topology - ie Class A, Class AB, Class C etc. Most amps only remain in class A in the milli watt range after which they switch back to class AB. Class A amps generally run very hot (for example on the original Musical Fidelity A1 you could crack an egg and cook it - no kidding). This is the amp I'm talking about (the one in black). http://www.musicalfidelity.com/mf/en/About/index Edited October 1, 2005 by Rameish
neutralzz 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 i have the b1 model of that musical fidelity amp!! do you know of any one who has one of those A1s and willing to let go second hand? i could probably use it for headphones.. my dad got that vincent amp from a friend, refused to tell me the price. it runs real freaking hot with two rows of heatsinks on both sides.. i'm trying to find out whats the output cuz it seems to drive my low efficiency speakers effortlessly.. i've retired my tubes.. they seemed to have paled a little in comparison
Rameish 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2005 (edited) The original MF A1 is a much sought after item. A good condition one (a bit rare cos of the overheading issues in sg) is very hard to come by but once in a while you do get one (not cheap though). Anyways I found out a little about vincent amp: here's a review of a different model: http://www.tnt-audio.com/ampli/vincent_sv238_e.html They are designed in germany and produced in china (NAD has been doing this for a long time now - designing in UK and producing in China so has rotel and Cayin (designed in Germany and made by Spark Audio). Oh here's their (Vincent's) ehglish homepage: http://www.vincent-tac.de/en/design/dl2.php Cant find your model number though so it may be an older model or a model so new that it's not up yet. I really dont know. Edited October 1, 2005 by Rameish
jtfoo 0 Report post Posted October 2, 2005 You guys took interest too late. I sold off my 20 yrs old slightly spoilt (contact problem easily solve with basic diy skill)A1 cheaply at $80 abt a month ago. It was a classic then, but when compared to amps nowadays, really cmi..
