Power Cords DIY

Recommended Posts

was going to post in 'another' thread..but thought I shouldn't steal the thread wink.gif

so, what cords are good for a DIY cord? what kind of plugs? where the heck do I get a IEC (I think I got that right) plug?

actually..I'm just itching for something to do, since its going to be for the computer biggrin.gif

Ablaze, a trip to LHS at 2nd floor, SLT (Robert is the boss) will be enlightening.

There are Belden 19364 and 83803 to start with. Try to get the MK hospital grade plugs but avoid those with the label "hospital grade" as they are essentially the same as the former but more expensive cos' of the label. Of course, U may also use the conventional UK 3-pin plugs. Ultimately, thickness of the cable will be key to selection. For thicker cables, U have no choice but to up the ante to Wattgates and Hubbels.

Back to the Beldens, Shurter IEC connectors are good, solid and easy to terminate.

IMHO, no need to go into this venture if it's for the computer but it might be helpful if U wish to upgrade the sound quality of your soundcard?........

not everything is available for certain.

also remember that not everything there may be the best possible price.

hunt around. if i'm not wrong B & Lee Electronics at 3rd floor also have belden cables.

mr robert lee at LHS is apparently a very friendly chap too.

hopefully this chart will help you. i made it myself. w00t.gif

blaze: you might want to try coin tweak..

my tweak:

place e-zone coins on each of the 4 corners of your cpu..

lagi best if you can buy the cones and stick them to the part where it moves the most(cd rom?)

so as to improve the sound quality of your revo

does my tweak my sense? biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Yup, everything I've mentioned can be found there. Robert is the man every softcore and hardcore DIYers seek. 19364 is shielded and I believe its 14 gauge. 83803 is stiffer and not shielded (identifiable by its red body). I think they are priced between $10-20/m. The former should be sufficient for your needs.

adhoc, regarding the 83322, isn't this for signal transmission..........ie interconnects instead of power cord?

Most popular amongst DIYers are 89259 (interconnects) and 1694a (subwoofer cable and digital cable).
