pipee 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2003 Hey man, I know this may be sacrilege but I am an 80s music man! Some may call them cheesy and manufactured but I was a child of the 80s and have many fond memories of them. And unlike the 90s the boybands of that period even wrote their own songs! Some of the groups which I liked back then and ones I recommend are, Depeche Mode - nough said OMD - complex eletronic music A-ha - you heard that right! They wrote all their own material. Imagine that! New Order - I think they are singularly responsible for the DJ scene back then. Dance sound but the lyrics are profound. Ever heard of Frente's version of Bizarre Love Triangle? Madonna - Her glory days were in the 80s! Prince - I only liked the Purple Rain album though but that album is outstanding! When Doves Cry still gives me the goosebumps. Pet Shop Boys - Many dance and techno which I really really like. I grew up with their music. Their early material were really good. The Police - Pop music which are layered and complex. Not at all like the pop music of today And many many more. Sade, Simply Red, Simple Minds, the list goes on and on. The ones I've mentioned above all wrote their own material. I even liked the cheesy ones like Duran Duran, Bananarama, Belinda Carlisle etc but most of these are manufactured rather than original like the lists I've mentioned at the top. Of course there were many many one-hit wonders like Mickey, A Flock Of Seagulls, Johnny Hates Jazz, etc I could go on and on. Please don't ask me which albums to buy. Just go to allmusicguide.com and find out. What I've given are my recommendations and bias.
