heady 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2007 Hey guys, I don't have very good news. I went to Kok Bee with the samples. The boss was there and he said he can't do it with the plastic material they have, which is too thin. He said if we order at least one hundred pieces each of front and back panels, he is willing to look for a piece of aluminium with the same thickness and anodise it before drilling and engraving. However he said they can't do it to the same precision as stated on AMB's specs but should be ok. He will come back to mouz with the quote for 100 pieces each. I am wondering how on earth are we to move 100 pieces. I searched the Yellow Pages and there are a couple of shops in Ubi that does this and I will also sound them out next week. I am thinking of whether my original idea will work, which is a thin applique of plastic same size as the panels which can be glued to the panels from Hammond. Of course, we have to do the drilling ourselves or ask the signboard people to drill for those without drills.
shw24 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2007 (edited) Hi Guys.... Pardon me if I don't know the situation of this panel, just sharing different thought of how to make casing of this mini3 looks nice.... and I'm thinking of if we cannot get the front and back pannel engraved as those one, how about if we just use the plastick pannel come with hammond, drilled it accordingly to the requirement without engrave, and to make it nice, just have a plate of alumnium (very thin one), engraved it with beautiful font... and place it on the top of the casing (black hammond will looks better).... I think this will makes more minimalist on the front panel and also decorate the top part of the hammond casing (which I like it). you can use those plate to tell "in", "out" which you can put it in the very end of the plate and line up vertically with the corresponding item... Just thinking of an idea... actually I'm agreed on the pre-drilled panel since that's very difficult without proper tool. Cloud 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2007 (edited) actually if u all dun mind having an arcylic panel, there is a guy in hardwarezone forums who has a laser cutting machine. i dont think the design should be a problem. the only possible problem is the countersunk hole. is a counter a must? the link http://forums.hardwarezone.com/showthread.php?t=1088877 Edited September 14, 2007 by Cloud
loop_ 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2007 Hi guys, I expressed some interest in the face plate for the mini3 during the MO at headwize, and this morning i got this email from Ti (who runs amb.org): "Hi, You had expressed interest in Mini3 panel sets. I don't have any panels left from the group buy, but I will be ordering a few more. If you're interested, please let me know ASAP and the number of sets you want. Since it's a small order, we won't get any volume discount, so the price is $40 a set plus shipping. -Ti" want to just hop on this instead? if it's 40us plus shipping should be somewhat less if a few of us do it, but someone else will have to organise because i'm leaving singapore soon... kross 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2007 For the engraving part...I might be able to help if the volume is small, as a service to this group buy. but since I am doing it foc, i can't promise on the quality...but again...it shouldn't look too bad
shw24 0 Report post Posted September 15, 2007 40US + shipping can endup 50US.... dunno if it still worth since it means, the casing itself might be more expensive than the board, but of course it will looks pro builded..... But frankly... the mini3 thread here getting more interesting day by day....
