alvin1118 0 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 (edited) Hihi, Just received my neo MPA2.5 headphone amp/preamp on last Saturday. ops..i ordered a fully assembled warranty set.. Too bad i don't have time to build it myself ^^ First impression when I unpacked it out of the DHL paper box: Superb built quality! 6mm thickness aluminum casing, ultra fine finishing; well built! Burning in for few days since I received it (never switch it off at all!!) Some Photos of neo MPA2.5: Front: (looks familiar?) Rear: R-Core, Dual Voltage Regulator, Right and Left Channel, Signal Selector: High quality audio grade components: Take it with ATH-A900 I replaced my ICUTE with this MPA2.5… Honestly, I already packed my ICUTE in the box (abandoned ); waiting for my friend to pick it up from me The sound improvement from ICUTE to MPA2.5 is so significant that I couldn’t believe what I hear in my ear! I can hear minor details clearly which I couldn’t hear in my old system. It is very musical, smooth and details. Soundstage is wider, especially when listen to classical music - Mike Oldfield! More info of MPA2.5: RMAA Some Data Proper review after I hook up my whole system, haven’t have time yet, busy with my final exam Edited May 1, 2008 by alvin1118
fireswan 0 Report post Posted June 23, 2008 First review so here goes ... Recently got an mpa 2.5 from Alvin and when I plugged it into my system which is a DIVA cdp and a senn HD650 coupled with a zu mobius, I was amazed to hear how full and musical it was. Coming from a past where I used to have quite a couple of budget headphone amps like little dot and the simpler SS headphone amps, was taken off when I tried this. Firstly to note is that I have tried before certain rave reviews SS headphone amps like the beta-22 so I have the rough idea of how the best of SS should sound. For the mpa 2.5, it is smooth as comparable to other SS which I have tired and somehow if want to compare in aspect wise, it will not lose to a beta-22 for its price/size to quality. Both the treble and bass control was tidy and was not in a mess even when I tried with zhang yu sheng which is very demanding for treble, it can drive it up to my senn (P.S. when I auditioned at Alvin’s place, his Sony universal player cannot make it at all, chipping all over the place ... ). Personally I feel that all headphone amps have certain mojo in them and the mojo in this sound terrific. Over the weekend I took DAC7010 from Alvin. Not robbing, just lending. On first try I feel the coaxial out sound similar to my cdp analogue out. But on further listening, it makes the music minor details fuller and the music to be more flexible to the genre of music. It also makes the certain genre of music to be more dynamic much more than the mpa 2.5 alone.
