Ibasso D2

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I'm intending to get a Ibasso D2 BOA soon, and would like to clarify some doubts.

I'll be using it on my cowon A3 player, and that's simply straight forward for me.

But I'm also looking to have the D2 replace my current Fubar2 DAC that is connected to the ESI Near04.

Will be ibasso be better compared to the fubar on the desktop segment?

The fubar allows me to have 2 cables to the speakers. but the D2 seems to have only 1 output.

How am i gonna link up the D2 to the Near04?

Thanks!

Regards,

Edmund

I can't really comment SQ wise which of the Fubar 2 or D2 is better as I haven't tried either. Another thing sound preference is really on an individual basis. so you may not like another man's treasure, so to say. Basically you have to try it for yourself.

But usually a Desktop rig in a similar price range would beat a portable. The only Portable DAC I found that is quite good is a PICO Dac. But again a desktop at its price range would beat it. =/

But I think I can help you with the nEar04. You just need to get a Mini to dual mono TS cables you can buy one from Jaben. If you have time, you can save a little by having one made for you at LHS at 2nd Floor Sim Lim TOWER.

It;s like a Mini to RCA Cable instead you have the RCA replaced with TS cables. It is hard to buy it of the shelf unless from Jaben as they also sell the nEar speakers.

Dual Mono TS to Mini Plug Cable

If you feel a bit stingy buy a Dual RCA to Mini Adapter and use your current cables. But the sound will degrade as compared to a a Dual TS to Mini cable.

RCA To Mini adapter

a TS plug is basically a Mono 1/4 plug that is used on Guitar cables.

TS Plug

Hope this helps. =)

thanks

for the dual mono TS to mini plug cable.

that will replace my current cables?

Yes if you will buy a new set. NO if you can find some one to modify your current cables by cutting the RCAs out and creating a single Mini plug extension.

But the second option will incur the same effort and cost. I would just buy a new one and keep the original cables safe if you feel to upgrdae again. Which in this hobby is NEVER Ending.

Sooner or later you'll feel like upgrading your interconnect, might as well go LHS and tell the uncle to make the customised one for you.

Do note that the TRS connector on the nEar04 is for balanced connection but the connection from Fubar is unbalanced, so you need a 3-pole connector (the "stereo" one with one ring) and connect the signal ground to the ring.

Or just heck it and use the 3.5mm -> RCA. Can reuse the RCA for future upgrades.
