Hooking up different speaker sets to work together

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, here's something that I've been lost at for a bit.. hope i can get some direction here.

Am currently using a pair of Logitech Z-4s for my PC. Am having a case of upgradititis and wanna get a pair of AE A2s. Is there anyway I can hook these 2 speaker sets up together to get a 5.1 system?

My mobo already supports up to a 7.1 system. I'm just lost as to how exactly I'm supposed to connect the speakers together OR whether they go straight to the mobo.

1) Am thinking of hooking up the A2s as the front speakers, while the Z4s act as the rear speakers.

2) Another option would be the possibility of hooking up the A2s with the Z4 subwoofer. Is this even possible? Then using the Z4 satellites as a standalone by wiring them directly to the mobo.

If I'm not mistaken, the Z4 sub that you're using has a 3.5mm port that is wired up to line out of the PC. Then, the sub has a pair of high level inputs that lead to your Z4 speakers. Thus, if I'm not mistaken, your sub only supports high level inputs, and not low level connections like RCA/3.5mm, which means that it cannot work as a "preamp" of sorts if you wish to hook it up to the AE A2s. As such, your second option will not work out, unless your AE A2 speakers are passive speakers like most high end Hi-Fi speakers are.

You should be able to make it work out as stated in your first option. However, I would imagine that it'd be quite odd having such a deep bass extension for the rear while the front is completely lacking bass.

hi ts..,the only option i guess is only getting an audio splitter..,as both of the speakers connector end are using rca instead of 3.5mm ..,you may need to get a rca to 3.5mm converter in this case. and then getting another one --> two way splitter to split out the sound..,but there would be a degrade in the audio quality if you split them out though.
