  1. in another thread, scottiebabie said This sounds like good news for choice. I'm very duh, so please bear with me... In the Mk3 Gmod, does it mean that the headphone out cannot be used as a regular headphone out anymore? ie, it must be used with the Gmod cable with capacitors Since the Mk3 headphone out is at line level, the ipod's volume control won't work, so even if it goes through a Gmod cable, it's not suitable for connecting directly to headphones? Btw, would there be any problems in opening up the ipod (say to do the gmod or imod process) if the ipod has one of the clear overlays (IS/BSE) on all sides?
  2. i wonder - why didn't you go for the new 5.5g ipods + rockbox + iMod (or even gMod)? Seems to me that with your hornet and all, you didn't go for the refurbished 4g for the cost factor... + 5.5g ipod has better battery life, right?
  3. In reply to my own post, http://www.echoloft.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB....&num=1088090582 says that there are shops in SLT and vicinity that sell RS SPL meters. Someone also says that a shop in fu lu shou sells the analogue meter for $140. But these posts were made in 2004.
  4. PPKiller: you can get ipod dock connectors via mail order from diy places such as http://www.qables.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=76_81
  5. gambatte! i look forward to the day i can go to <insert favourite retailer> and say gpod my ipod.
  6. Not sure if this is the right forum to ask this... Where can I get an SPL meter in Singapore? Perhaps something similar to Radio Shack's http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.js...rentPage=search ...
  7. if I understand correctly, Jaben will do the impressions for you for free (or already included in the price), or you can opt to go to an audiologist to make impressions (and you pay the audiologist). What could be better? You have the choice to get it done for less, or you can go to a pro to do it - the choice is yours. As for the question of whether it is beneficial to be done by a pro, well, that's the tricky question. It doesn't seem to be that difficult, and i think there are even diy home kits to make impressions in the US. But the choice is yours One day, i'm going to get impressions done either for the livewires or for the um56. Hmm...
  8. Thanks scottiebabie. Just to confirm, does this new development also mean that the Gmod can't be used together with other equipment that use the ipod lineout connector (ie, similar to the other "ahem" mod unit)? eg. lineout stereo, radio, etc. I don't quite understand why they can't be used, or what bad thing will happen.
  9. Oooh. I thought you were the well known head-fi'er who was reviewing it... hmm....
  10. Thanks for the update. Hmm. I don't quite understand. You've put a set of capacitors on the ipod pcb, so we can use any dock + cable combination... But once we've installed the Gmod, why would we want to use a dock + cable combination? Surely we should use the headphone out to a good quality mini-mini to a portable amp instead? :? <confused> I also don't own an ipod 5g (yet)... What do you mean by opening ipod might sever the Gmod cable? an internal cable, or the external mini-mini? Btw, do you have any pricing estimates for the Gmod?
  11. I think it would be nice if you could perform the Gmod on the lineout instead of the headphone out... And much nicer too if you could squeeze everything into the ipod so that a special gmod dock cable won't be required That and approach or better imod 5g sound quality, and you'll have a winner when are you planning your mini-meet? I can't wait!
  12. this would be interesting... can't wait to find out more. (i wonder if apple will be unhappy about something called gpod. maybe gmod?
  13. Hi. I'm looking for a portable DAP. Do you have any recommendations for a good offer at PCshow or otherwise? I've been considering the imod 5.5g for a while, but that's rather expensive... I'm also wary of changing the dock interface and being unable to use it with other ipod docking accessories forever... I'd like to have something that can play multiple types of non-drm music. mp3 and flag are non-optional. ogg support would be nice as well. I'd also like it to have good sound without hissing on low impedance iem's such as my ue sf3. Please give me some advice / suggestions I'm currently using a creative zen neeon 5g. Main issue with it is no flac support, no lineout. I currently have a hd650, ue sf3, total bithead. I'm hoping to get a westone 3, and maybe an rsa hornet m or minibox-d. Hmm, read about the meizu m6. Flac/ogg support looks good. But I've read that it has some amounts of hiss
  14. Cos the email quote and response I'd received from them said $35... Didn't read that someone had a $25 quote from them till after collecting the stand.
