  1. This is not classic I should have a Creative Labs Soundblaster 16 ISA lying round here
  2. Yes, if you want to/can pay, go for VBB at anytime
  3. I used phpBB and the Invision Board, both for several month on a private page and the invision board is better in most respects. But (a rather big but) phpBB is open-source! I like that... Other choices are Simple Machines Forum e.g., it's even better than the other two choices. Updates are done with mouse clicks within the control panel, almost similair to windows update. You always get news through the admin panel, so you always know if something is going on. Installation and administration is very easy You might also have a look at useBB, it's a newer forum software, also open-source and looks very promising but seems to be more smaller communities... Next time I want to upgrade a forum I might give that one a try. To sum it up, if you want to upgrade, give Simple Machines Forum a chance or use phpBB2 (better the plus version if you don't want to deal extensions and plugins since many useful ones are included in that distribution). Now it depends on what you really need. If you want simple administration and a software that has everything onboard, take SMF. If you really need more options and plugins take phpBB. You should be aware that most quality skins are available for free for phpBB and the community is alive and very big. I don't know if you can upgrade the invision board to the newest version but that would also be a good choice, I always liked this software and it's very good looking right out of the box, SMF isn't, at least in my eyes...
  4. Ok, since I already listen in a quiet environment I think this won't bother me too much
  5. There is one Earmax on eBay here in Germany and it might be not that expensive... Since a new one costs about 360 Euro here I think I might have to pay about 250 or less. I heard and read that the HD 600 and the earmax would sound pretty good together. In other places it was said, that the amp wouldn't be loud enough... Does anybody have experience with this combo? It is the normal version, not the pro...
  6. Hmm, this seems to be a rather good solution. I might try using my soundcard and see how much dB difference there is. Btw. I put some books between my HD 600 and yesterday I could wear them for 3 or more hours and sometimes they disappeared completely from my head again Does anybody know why I don't notice a difference in loudness while wearing headphones? I think that the difference should be even greater then. Maybe it has something to do with the shape of the ear??
  7. Thanks at first for the answers. With the word dry I meant a rather "live" experience of the music. In my opinion the Sennheiser does make the music sound a little, err, nicer I mean my horns sound more natural for me while the Sennheiser tends to soften the sound. I cannot say what I really prefer. I have about 200 CDs and they range from Punk to Metal to County to Blues to electronic stuff and many more styles. In so far it might be the best way to stick to a headphone like the HD 600 that makes every music sound good. Surely they are not the best for rock or punk but they are surely lovely when it comes to some electronic stuff. Btw, I solved the problem with my ears, well, at least I know what's going on. My family seems to have problems with their ears My mother does hear louder on her right ear and so does one of my brothers. I guess it's a thing that cannot really be helped Speaker positioning, toeing in and all was done by me. I read quite a lot about positioning because only then you get the most out of your loudspeakers. I noticed big differences and have a great sound. At least that's what my friends say
  8. Hi everybody! Quite a long time has passed since I posted here... Well, I was playing around a little bit with loudspeakers and almost found my peace with horn speakers, namely a Fostex 103e in the recommended horn. Sounds really very very good. If you build it on your own, it might cost you about 150 Euro. Simply the best speaker I ever heard. Currently I was thinking of upgrading to the Jericho horn also with Fostex drivers. But here comes my problem Actually my ears seem to be the problem. I never ever get precise imaging from loudspeakers The middle is always a little bit on the right side. And this get really annoying if you listen for longer periods. It's alright for about 10 minutes but then the center starts to shift somehow. And all the good sides of a conventional speaker are gone and I must stop listening. Oh well, the better the speaker, the less the effect. I tried playing around with speaker positioning and also using the balance. Nothing helped, so I put on my trusty Sennheiser HD 600 again and everything is fine But even these Sennheisers do have their problem at least with me... My head starts to hurt after a while. Maybe they are too tight on my head. I didn't notice this within the first few month. But well, these are my problems. My first questions is: Is there any way to make the Sennheisers clamp my head less tight? I heard that you just should put some thick books between the headphones and leave it like that for some time. But won't this wear out the headphone? Second question (if question number one cannot be answered in any nice way ) : Is there another headphone around that has a sound quality that is comparable to the HD 600 and within the range of 200 - 250 Euro? Of course that one must be very kind to my head from the beginning on I could live with a change in sound. I like the dry and rather bright sound of the horns. They have a very good and dry bass. If you know what I mean... The HD 600 are rather on the warm side. Well, I hope someone can help me
  9. I have been quite lucky My brother is selling stuff at eBay, mostly Hifi. And a few days ago he got a Sony receiver from 1970 or something. A Sony STR-6055. Actually sounds pretty good to me I think I'm going to stick with this one. The sound compared to my headphone out oy my CD-player e.g. is just better. There aren't any details I hadn't heard before. Just better
  10. Hi there! It's me again looking for an amp Last time I told you that I didn't have the money cause I needed to buy a car... Now I'm driving a 95er Mazda 626. Money is still an issue with me so I thought about getting a vintage amp! I read a lot about some marantz units for under 100 Euro that sound really good, especially with my HD 600. Could you just give me some recommendations for about 100 Euro, please? Btw: I'm on, let's say, holiday until Friday so I might not answer until then... I forgot to mention: My source is a Yamaha CDX-1050! Vinyl is not important... I might also hook up my Audigy2 to it sometimes. And I'm not going to use my speakers with it
  11. For about 100$, you will get a really good sound. Here in Germany you could get a used/almost new Sennheiser HD 580 for that But you must also see that there are also a lot of cans out there in the 50$ region. I guess it mainly depends on how much you have and are willing to spend. And if you're going to buy that Sennheiser e.g., it will sound really good. But you must also know that some other cans for half the price will maybe sound equal to that one because you don't have a good sound card. A good source is very important for those more expensive ones... And then you should think about a headphone amp which will make almost any headphone sound better Alright, I may even come to a conclusion... If you're only going to play CS with the headphones and don't have the best soundcard, I'd spend maybe around 50 or 60$. A used Philips HP 890 could be in that range... If it was me buying a headphone, I'd sureley spend all the money I could afford As simple as that!
  12. @augustinRS: Receivers actually consist of an integrated amp and a tuner. All newer units do have am/fm reception. Mostly standalone tuners are way better than integrated ones. But nowadays there aren't too many good tuners around for little money
  13. I also had the Yamaha TX 930 or 950 with me. A very nice unit! But sometimes really overpriced on the used market!
  14. Hmm, so you would definitely say that the cables are worth their 45 Euro? Hmm, sounds good to me I guess that will be my next investment
  15. Hi there! I just saw in here, that Meier-Audio sells some Oehlbach cables, even replacement cables for HD600/580. Did anyone try these out?? I would be really interested whether they are sounding good and how they compare to the other ones (Equinox etc.). Hmm, and they are retailing for 45 Euro Finally a cable even I could afford
