  1. YAY!!! WOOHOO! Just bought them. I auditioned a pair of Dynaudio speakers at the showroom just now which the shop keeper said sounded closest to the MC15's and the sound was simply breathtaking! Can't wait for collection next week. Will do an update on how they sound!

Which model sounds the closest to the MC15? Did Nicholas mention which internal amp is the MC15 using? Can PM me the price ;)

The Au-24's cost approximately 3 times as much as the Grover's, and the Grover's beat them soundly (pun intended)."

Grover S is an updated version of UR-8

Review of grover cables vs JPS 'aluminatas'

JPS 'aluminatas' is US$2999/1m pair retail price (http://www.stereophile.com/cables/407jps/index2.html)

    Quote:

"they are 85%-90% as sonically revealing as the aluminatas'...the richness and fullness of the aluminatas' as well as their being able to deliver better micro details...smoother more natural vocals and a slightly qiucker transient response is the difference"

Review of grover cables vs Anti-Cables

"Yup, I used anti-copper IC for more than a year before being corrupted by the Grovers. Both excellent, Grover more transparent, especially on the super subtle things like low freq reverb in a concert hall, tonality on low instruments, overall more details, but not more harsh."

  3. Haha revive an old thread.

I just made an interesting discovery regarding the toad album track 6.

This track is interesting as one has to concentrate to listen to the toad croaking via headphones/home speakers.

Surprise, surprise- i have found that the toad croak is very clear via the speaker of my 2 yr old Samsung handphone. yes, is the handphone ! No need to strain at all- the croaking comes out naturally and very clearly!

Just rip it to mp3 and copy to the phone and play :)

  4. The replacement cable that both Fuwen and I are using is part no: 74532 from Sennheiser's product catalogue. This cable is more flexible than the stock but is terminated with the 1/4-inch plug. It is originally designed for the 600-ohm version of the HD-25 and thus is asymmetrical.

To my ears, the sound is smooth with the replacement cable compared to the stock. The grainiess and harshness of the original cable is gone with a subtle increase in details.

THis cable is also relatively friendly on the wallet at S$35 from Sennheiser Asia.

  5. Hm. Perhaps I could hang around the classifieds and hope for a used pair. Haha.

I had the PX-200s once and I vastly prefer the MS-1s over them, so I'll probably not go for those. My brother has the PX-100s and I don't like them either, the bass was too bloated and it was overall pretty muddy.

Post a WTB and you might get lucky.

  6. Every cable is a filter (no matter how expesive or how pure the copper/sliver content is). Cable geometry offers ways to reduce this. For example litz wires are used for small signal transfer (the 0.2mv of an MC cartridge to it phono stage or transformer). If you substitute the litz for say a solid core wire of the same gauge as the combined litz wire you'll hear a very nocicable difference. There are many reasons as to why a certain geometry offers better transfer for low output signal transfer including but not limited to the so called skin effect. (Note hook up wires are like 3cm in length). That is not to say there are silly reviewrs who are trying to write prose into their reviews. This has been the case for a long time now. If in doubt trust your ears. Always remember a difference may not be better just because one cable costs a lot more then another.

IMHO. there is a difference in power cords or ICs. The amount depends on the resolution, neutrality and transparancy of the audio chain i.e. the headphones/ amplifiers/ source. In my experience, it is easiest to hear the difference using the Beyerdynamic DT150 or Sennheiser HD-25 partnered with a Sound Devices HX-3 that i am using.

  7. Oh..yeah but they cost much more than $200 right?

Costs abt S$360 new for the version II.

Closer but still exceeding your budget, you can try looking for the Sony V6 or 7506. They are closed and foldable.

Along the Sennheiser lines there is the PX200 which should be S$100 odd.

  8. People are more aware of the price difference between a local and overseas set and would rather get the overseas set that still comes with a warranty.

Also, its local pricing of close to 500 puts its in an unfavourable spot against dual drivers Westone UM2/Superfi 5 pro and single drivers rom Shure.

Anyway, you may want to try Norman Audio at Adelphi for the etymotics.

  9. Coil

    Newater

(how ah? connection between Norah Jones and reverse osmosis. I am so clueless.)

Norah is 5 letters, so is Jones

Reverse is 7 letters, so is Osmosis

    :))

But the truth is that my browser put me to the previous page that displays "salt water" :P

I can edit my post to "thirsty" though ;)

  10. is a balance of portability vs sound quality. Price is also a major consideration.

I want better sound quality but do not want to get an iem above the Shure E4 or Etymotic ER4 due to price considerations. The next step up would be near to double in price. The compromise would be to get headphones.

The HD25 is supra aural. It rests on the ear. Thus the ear-cup is not too big. It is also fairly minimalist in the design as it is meant for functional use, not as a fashion statement.

I like that it is modular in design so that any part of it is easily replaceable.
