  1. Hi People, I:ve just bought the Eggos and now I want to know if anybody knows if I can get a good quality wireless set. I;ve heard something about the Sony MDR CD3000, but I kind of like to have a wireless for watching movies and stuff. Thanks again.
  2. Wow, You saved $2. Just found out that the Eggos cost 8800 yen. Figure out the price in SG and I think the Eggos that I bought were well worth it, until I get a better one :-)
  3. I think you guys should thank me :-p I was extremely lucky to find it.
  4. Hi, If you are interested in buying the Eggos, I recommend that you try it from someone who has one and then use it on the portable that you will be using while you are on the move. Some portables have better "amps" than others. My PDA is not an MP3 player, its main function is to work as an organiser but with music playback ability. Also, the songs that I've encoded are crap (from 96kbps to 256kbps), so you hear every mistakes of your encoding if it is not done right. N@Z, I'm not sure about your definition of which line would produce the loudest sound. I've always thought that you will get the loudest sound from the headphone jack than from the line out jack. I could be very wrong, that's just from personal experiences. The Eggos is really like a nice smooth drink. The sounds are very mild on the ears, perhaps its because of the music that I listen to ;-) Once you start listening to techno or hip hop, the bass responds very well (and not too overwhelming either). For its size and the price that I paid for :-) , its not a bad buy. I have one hate about the Eggos though, they are a hassle to open and close. Good luck finding an Eggo for the price I paid for, they are a good buy even at $150++.
  5. HI Guys, I'm back I'm gonna talk about the following : 1. Review - D66SL on the plane 2. Review - D66SL on the train Please note that this phone was used for review with a Sony Clie NR70V PDA. 1. D66SL on the plane The default sony earbud phones were clearly louder than the D66SL, but you could also hear the thrashiness of it too. D66SL reminded me of a smooth drink, very moderate headphones that is clearly capable of asking for more power. It did not block out the sounds of the plane altogether. I think it was probably 25% plane and 75% music, still bearable in my opinion. I wish I could have listened at a louder volume as the phones do sound a lot better especially when the bass kicks in When I connect the Sony to the plane's audio jack (I only used one of them since I didn't have the 2-point audio adapter), it was much louder and far more dramatic. Seems like if I had an adapter I would be much happier :-) They were comfortable for the 6 hours++ trip. Didn't hurt my ears at all. 2. The Sony was much better on the train because perhaps Japanese trains aren't as noisy as Singaporean trains :-p I enjoyed it more here. I haven't had the chance to look around for phones as I'm dead tired from my first day. Will come back with some photos (if any people are interested). As for the review of the e2770, I can do it better if I actually had it here :-)
  6. Urm... ok. Hope I haven't damaged it already
  7. So how much do the CD3000 cost in Singapore? I'm thinking of getting a nice pair of wireless when I"m in Japan (they have a lot that Singapore doesn't have). I will use it for my computer/tv.
  8. I tried to bargain with the guy before I bought it, but he would not budge Tell me, is this a good price that I paid for? BTW, when I was breaking it in, I played it on med-high volume for a few hours. Is that ok? When I was breaking in my Senn e2770 (I didn't know what was breaking in when I got the 570s), I played it on high for several hours. Not sure if that was a mistake. Anyway, my quick preview of the D66SL : PROs. 1. Very lightweight and compact, the extra carry bag is nice (didn't get one with my senns.) 2. Great sound. Gave me a better reaction than the e2770 because of the solid bass and clear sounds. I find that its fairly neutral, it seems to play pretty accurately which means that I can really hear the difference between a 128kbps and a 160kbps whereas I couldn't tell the difference when using a normal phone. 3. Great punchy bass. Its very accurate. Its not as boomy as the e2770. They were excellent for technos, even out of the box. When playing rock, the highs were a little high when playing "Point of authority". Sentimental/classical/rock (playing "Ah reum da oon ah poom"), hmmmm, mids didn't seem as lively as my 570. Vocals sounded very nice. 4. I have longish/biggish ears, but still manage to fit them inside the cones(?). Its semi closed, which means that you can still hear what's going on outside when the volume is low. When the volume is high, you hear 98% of the music and 2% of outside noise. The Eggo passed the MRT test 5. Good enough to play on my Sony Clie PDA, wasn't as loud as the default ear phones, but was definitely clearer. CONs. 1. Immediately I found that opening and closing the Eggos a little difficult. Hang on, its quite difficult. I cannot seem to close or open it properly (it slips as I try). 2. The headband is kind of tight, it wraps around your head whereas the Senns. kind of sits and wraps a little (ie. not as tight). Some may find this tiring after a while. 3. Not really sure about the short cable/extended cable setup although its well suited for my Sony Clie PDA which has a remote control. I love Senns. idea of totally detactable cables as I think some people tend to rip off their cables by accident from the root of the phones. 4. Did not like the look of the 2 small cables hooks as you can in one of the pictures. Once something sharp catches it, it would be hard to fix. Its a great pair of headphone for the price that I got it for. I'm beginning to feel that it is better than the e2770 in terms of portability and clarity. Was clearly better as a techno phone than the 570 but not sure about how it compares as a movie headphone.
  9. Hi people, Here are a couple of pictures of my new D66SL. My camera sucks at night
  10. Hi, On the phones, it says MDR D66. On the box, it says MDR D66SL 40mm, 40 ohms, 106dB/mW etc etc... made in Japan. Is this right? I have the short cable plus the extension cable. I have a camera but don't know where to post the picture to. Can somebody help me with my breaking-in query? thanks.
  11. Oh one more thing, Is the D66L and the D66SL the same thing? Wow, "Heart of Asia" sounds pretty strong
  12. Hi people, I'm back and I have the Eggos. I couldn't find the $80 guy and when I asked his fellows, they didn't know what model I was talking about. That guy said that he didn't have any at the shop yesterday, but he could get one for me. I'm thinking that perhaps he meant the D22, not the D66. Anyway, I think $80 was too low as well since bluetin seems to be selling them at almost double the price. Anyway, found another shop in the same place (it was lucky plaza) and bought the D66SL for ..... $95. I don't know if it is really D66SL (the packaging says so and it is printed on the phones). It seems strange as the price doesn't seem to match what the market offers. I think perhaps it was stored in the shop for the last 2-3 years collecting dust and nobody wanted to buy them (at their original price). I hope they are not fakes!!! Anyway, they are in my possession, if I find that they are not the real thing, then I'll know where to go Can anyone give me some advice on breaking-in methods for this particular headphones? Thanks once again, man what a rush. I'm glad I have a can for my trip
  13. Hi, Well I think I found 2 shops that sold the D66L. They were in Orchard, but I can't remember the name of the shopping centre. It could be Far East but can't quite remember the name sorry! When I go back, I'll check it up!
  14. Haha, perhaps I'm smoking something special Well, that was what the guy quoted. I'm a seasoned bargainer, so I kind of bluff the guy and asked for $75, he said he couldn't do it. Then as I was leaving the shop he quoted $80. Actually, I didn't know how much they cost. But now I do. I'm going to go back there again if it is still cheaper than Sim Lim Square. I think I'm definitely going to get the D66SL. I've read a lot of articles from head-fi.org and found that this would be better for me than the MDR V6 (7506). Easier to drive and seems to work well in noisy environments despite its semi closed design. I was looking at Phillips' HP890, but wasn't as easy to drive and apparently wasn't comfortable for long distance travelling (looks odd too). The Senn. e2770 was the second Senn phone I bought (From the same shop too, hung bros at SIm Lim). My first was the Senn 570 which I still love. I haven't heard the 580,590 or 600 so I am not experienced enough to know what is good and what is average. The 570 has served me well while watching movies from my PC as well as playing games. I bought the e2770 for the purpose of playing from a portable. I was suppose to buy a portable amp later as it wasn't loud enough (for me anyway, I'm partially deaf). I haven't had the time to shop around for amps. Its very similar to my 570, I can't really tell the difference between it and the 570 except for the bass, which was a lot punchier/stronger than the 570. I use both for watching movies at home between 2 people. Our collection of headphones are more expensive than the surround system we put together :-) We have a very large projector though Can anybody else recommend places in Singapore for buying the D66SL? Thanks again for your help. I appreciate it very much.
  15. OK, I went to Orchard today and saw the Sony D66l at a couple of shops. They were selling at between $80 to $95. How much are they worth anyway? I also saw a lot of A.Technicas at one shop, one looked a lot like the MDR 7506, some looked like the D66L. I asked the guy about them, but he doesn't seem to know much about them. Almost all of the shops did not want me to try their phones (but they most certainly wanted me to buy them). Now, for anyone who is interested in buying a car, phone or even a pair of shoes, wouldn't they want to try them first before purchasing. Why won't these sales people let me try their cans? Anyway, I tried a pair of cans called PRO2, I've never heard of it before but they looked quite similar to the EGGOs. The sound was not bad, had some bass but sounded a bit blurry/muffled. Perhaps it needed breaking in. Cost of this was $150. Went to another shop, they quoted $60!!! Wow!!! What a great price difference. Next, I tried a Sony shop and saw the MDR V500DJ and MDRV700DJ. With a bit of persuasion, the sales person let me try the V500. Not bad, doesn't quite compare with my Senn. e2770 but it wasn't bad. It definitely need an amp as it wasn't very loud. I didn't want to inconvenient the sales guy, so I bypassed the V700. I compared the impendence of each, the V500 was rated at 40ohms, whereas the V700 was rated at 28ohms. Perhaps, the V700 would be more suitable for portables. ANyway, as it turned out, I didn't buy anything today, will go to Sim Lim square tomorrow to check out more headphones. Buying a headphone is difficult, it seems as though I will need to rely on other people's opinions on the web and take a gamble. It seems as though the D66L may be what I need for now. Given the price, I think its not bad but I need to listen to it first before buying!!! DOH! My apologees for the badly written summary of my day, I walked everywhere and was feeling very tired. Gawd I miss my Senns.
  16. Hi, Thanks for that. OK, so I think I'm looking for cans less than $200. My options comes down to these : 1. Sony 7506 2. Sony D66l Thank you for your suggestions, I'm going to ORchard now, to shop around for these and other phones of around the same price.
  17. Hi people, I need a good pair of headphone that would be perfect for travelling on planes and trains (ie. portability). I have Senn. 570 (open cans, great for movies, bad for techno and terrible for portability), Senn. e2270 (closed cans, good for techno, a little better for portability), Sony wireless (cheap, but reasonable, Senn. 570 was much better and more comfortable too). I love the comfort of my Senns, and I also love the natural sounds from open headphones. I don't really like earbuds as they fall out of my ears, though I haven't tried the Etys. I'm going to Japan, so I want to have an outdoor and indoor phones. I hope to get the Sony wireless phones for indoor use. I've queried on head-fi.org, and some has suggested the Senn 590, Sony d66l and M6 7506 as outdoor phones. At the moment, I don't have the cash to buy the 590. I'll be using my Sony Clie to listen to music, as well as my notebook. I've heard great things about the Etys, can anyone comment about my situation as I'll be leaving on Monday and I hope that I will be able to enjoy my music while travelling for 7 hours and travelling in Japan (I'll be travelling a hell of a lot, so I need music!!!). Thanks for your help, hope that I can buy something this Monday! PS. I've taken a look at the thread regarding on "where do you buy your headphones?". That is very helpful, I would appreciate if people can tell me if there are other places selling the kind of headphons that I'm looking for. Thanks again!
