  1. Why rely / waiting on other people opinions? I suggest you go to Hung Brothers at SLS 3rd floor, and try it there Trust your own ears ! That what made me bought the ATH-EW9. I didn't know about it at all before I bought it, I just saw it at Hung Bros, looks nice, then I asked Douglas (from Hung Bros) to open one for me, then I pluged it into my PCDP. I found on the spot that it sounds good. After comparing with other headphones on the shop, I bought it. So at that time my ears are my only reference, and I'm glad I bought it
  2. Sometime I wonder why a lot of people like Senn, so far I never heard a Senn that can bring music to live, they all sound analytical to me with lack of emotion (including HD650). I guess it is because Senn needs time to shine, and so far all Senns I have tried are new Senns, not the one that have been 'burnt in' or 'broken in'. So I guess for Senn, older is better Heady - You are right about the portability, PX200 is very well designed for portability. I think my very old Sony MDR-E888 sounds more lively than the PX200, so I still use it for portability. But the one that always stay in my bag is the ATH-EW9, the most musical can for it's price. Again it all boils down to personal taste. So trust your ears Don't rely on mine or someone else opinions
  3. Well, when my brother bought PX200, and I listen to it for a few songs, well... I would say I hate it weak bass, muddy mid and treble, really not interesting. But I like the design, I just wish it sounds good. Sorry, no offend to the PX200 owners, it is really up to personal taste. But my point is, you better try 'burnt in' PX200, the one at Hung Bro is most likely the new one, so you might not like it. I believe the burnt in one sounds better
  4. Not necessary (I prefer not). The important thing is to ground the chasis to the audio ground. Another simple improvement is to put small caps (22 nF - 100 nF) on the bridge diode, it will also smoothen the bridge DC output from AC transition. Example to put the small cap on the PS bridge from my 'failed' project layout:
  5. Yes sure! but I would prefer to use fuse for protection. You can also buy the 3 pin AC socket with noise filter, so you will get a cleaner AC. SLT basement has a lot.
  6. For USD 699.- it is not so expensive high end player But for that money I think I better get Denon DVD2900 (SGD 1200.- at SLS).
  7. I have added my small review with AD8066. This is an excellent Op-Amp! Now it stays in my headamp
  8. Good luck Huangyong Sleep well, otherwise your hand will be shaky, not good doing the mod with shaky hand Anyway, I don't really like to see the low pass on your output (pin 13), you should try without it at first. When you hear metallic treble, then start to design active low pass which has better characteristic than the passive one. The active low pass offer a more stable impedance over the frequency compare to the passive low pass. Another alternative to low pass is to use slow slew rate Op-Amp. It might give better result than passive low pass. Try OPA2227 (or OPA227 for single), the slew rate is only 2.3 V/uS. I know that it is still high to perform effective low pass function, but it is cheap, why don't give it a try My suggestion: Disconnect only pin 10 and 11, leave the rest as it is. Build new board on top of the original board for your new circuit (use plastic spacer). Happy Modding ! Bram

    Congrats Afterburner and Digi!
  10. Yeap, I can see good dynamic range, good camera! Almost no highlight clips on the bridge
  11. Some old flats behind the Bugis Junction. I heard they have been renovated. I was interested with the round stairs, so here they are in Sepia (or brown):
  12. I should come to your place and try it AD8620 is very good in transparancy and imaging, but too bright for my Grado RS-1. So when paired with a not so bright headphone, it is a very good Op-Amp. Heady, how did you mount them? Have you bought the SO8>DIP8 adapter?
  13. Prelude - The Best of Charlotte Church
  14. I have received the AD8066 (dual) and AD8065 (single) from AD, and I just mounted it on small perfboard as adapter for SO8 > DIP8. I will add my comments of how it sounds once I got time to try it with my amp.
  15. Nice picture of moon FireFox! What was the zoom range?
  16. Sure no problem I did once tracing PCB track of my Technics CD player long time ago (about 9 years ago), until I brought it to sleep I think +/-3V is high enough for DAC / line output. But if you want to replace the internal Op-Amp, I suggest you better try a similar configuration with OPA627 replacing the internal Op-Amp (tap pin 10 and 13). Later you might experiment with discrete or tube. But I doubt that gonna be easy, because without the internal Op-Amp, you get I out not V out.
  17. Volume control ??? Do you mean another pot on the headphone output ???
  18. Cool Mod! Do you mind to post the pics? Do you have to put cap in the audio line? Especially the headphone output? I think with the precission OPA627, you can at least take out the blackgate. No matter how good the cap is, it will be much better without it
  19. Well, for the 'good' definition of the isolation, must ask those who like isolation. Not me, my cans are open type, I don't really like isolation, and I only listen to music at home or in office, quiet places only
  20. Thanks guys! Another leaves abstraction:
  21. Cool ! Waiting more comments from you. If you got time, please show us some pictures I would be very helpfull to see the pictures Anyway, why didn't mod the X-CanV2? at least you already got cool casing
  22. Probably the 'good' definition is different Did you insert them deep enough into the ear canal? They are different than earphone, which normally we can just 'hang' it on the ears, this one need to be pushed into the ear canal.
  23. I like leaves. They are a beautiful natural patterns and abstraction. Here is one from my collection.
