Thanks to bpribadi, I just substituted the OPA2134PA with the OPA2228 in my 3 channel CMOY and wow, the difference is startling. Nicely controlled bass with detailed highs. It may sound like less bass than the 2134 but that's because the bass is tighter and more impactful. Good op-amp.

What cable would you recommend for headphone extension? The S-VHS wire you mention has only two conductors right so must use the shield for the ground? I am also looking for a cable to replace my broken old headphone cable, so have to split into two separate 2 conductors, left and right. I don't think Cat-5 wire will be good, it is solid core and quite stiff and easy to break with bending. What do you think?

Thanks guys. Bpripadi, thanks for the offer. Being a family man, weekends are almost impossible for me but I do sneak out during weekdays. But, I will try to see this Douglas in Hung Bros. I am looking forward to your offer of trying out your pimeta once it settles in, bpribadi.

I am building the pimeta for fun, since like bripadi I already have the AD8620 but unlike him, I paid for mine since I was SO ignorant then. It's amazing how much one can learn from guys like you all.

As for the phones, I actually don't like phones to be too bright but I found my Senns seems to be hiding things from me. Maybe just my imagination. Anyway the HD490 is OLD and I have a pair of HD450 which is even older, the cables are so stiff that they don't bend and they actually just broke so I have the excuse to give to the missus to buy a new set of phones.

Hi, I am looking for a new set of headphones to upgrade my Senns HD490 which I find too dark and not revealing enough. I currently have a cmoy (OPA2134) but will be buliding a pimeta (AD8620) when I have the time.

I listen to jazz, folk and classical mostly. I am right now wondering what to get, the possibilities are HD595, HD580, DT880 etc.

What do you experts advise? The listening demo stand at Hung Bros are gone but I remembered the HD580 sounding quite good but will it be dark as well?

Very nice, bpribadi! You probably have to wait for a while for the amp to burn in. My max CMOY took about 3-4 days continuous running to sound its best. Will wait for you to give another review in a week's time?

BTW what is the meaning of termination for the DIY interconnects?

My interest is music, I bought a Creative MP3 player and also a Panasonic portable CD player both of which just could not power my Sennheiser HD490 to listenable levels. So it was to the Internet to find a reasonable solution. I know a dentist who likes building his own tube amps so I am not special nor as skilled.

I think this CMOY sound good because it is 3-channel plus the virtual ground is being driven by an op-amp. And probably my Sennheiser is not that great but the combination is very listenable, the highs are now quite clean, just a little detail missing. I found the AD8620 very bass-light probably requires the buffers to sound right.

I like your use of regulators for the virtual ground. Can you share where to get them and how much they cost? I was just kidding about stopping DIY This is a nice forum unlike the US sites where the people can be quite fierce. Yup, you guys are great.

I am now listening to Jacinta on "Here's to Ben" and the recording is very good. I heard another SG recording Blair's Bunch which was also very well recorded. Great stuff we have right here in Singapore!!

- the picture is the first item, ie smd->dip?

- the second item single to double dip is the adaptor to put two single opamp dip into one dip socket

Yeah, I did read that vground article. In the thread on Headwize, Tangent's point was that a TLE alone will not provide enough output but with an op-amp and an buffer after the TLE should be adequate. I am not advocating the use of the TLE but rather asking what is the advantages of using the two regulators method. I am no electronic expert lah, only study biology.

I am listening to my 3 channel CMOY right now, dire straits. shiok man. thinking of retiring from building amps already, listening more fun.

Pardon me if I am ignorant but I thought in the PiMeta, the signal ground gets a single op-amp and a buffer too? Can you comment on the merits of using the regulators instead of the TLE for the virtual ground. Of course I have no idea where to get a TLE in Singapore. Just for discussion
